Here's a good way to find mafia - when asked for targets they mostly provide conveniently dead people, other mafia members at a push. Dohnut's target list reeked.

@Tales - I rank people by information known. I currently know nothing about you, making you a suspect. If knowing your power puts you in danger, targets should still help clear you. We're closing in on the N1 attempted murderer and the N2 killer. The more info we have the better.

yup, have been re-reading and just reached the same conclusion. So who did you end up at? Seems like a few people targeted me, and gmac made anyone targeting me end up somewhere else. it means Wine In Front Of Me - it refers to the game theory problem presented in the princess bride. Essentially mafia want to appear town, so they will sometimes do things that would not directly benefit mafia. It's pointless to say "I wouldn't do this if I were mafia" because by the virtue that doing it makes you seem to be town, it is something the mafia would benefit from by mimicking. The same problem is presented to a protector choosing night target where the protector and cop are known. Protector should protect cop, so the obvious target is protector. But knowing this, the protector could target himself, and stop the night kill. But knowing this, the mafia could target the cop and win big, but knowing this the protector...etc etc The value in following this reasoning is empty, better to ignore it.

oh yeah! you're right. Thread's sufficiently ripe for a re-read I think, I'm losing information. I bet among all the redirection claims and target claims are some contradictions.

also FYI Rummy that argument is full of WIFOM. I pretty much ignore any sentence starting "if I was mafia I would" because it's always baloney. A mafia member plans to do things that aren't optimal for a simple mafia win because it makes them look good...which is optimal for a mafia win.
