  1. People keep saying expensive card board and I don't think people realise how expensive card board is these days! when I moved house my missus bought £50 of boxes from a company and for £50 I thought we were robbed! didn't get many and they were small.

  2. I had it for Xbox 360, but I got the RROD, briefly replaced my Xbox but then decided to jump ship to Playstation with everyone else and never got Dark Souls again to complete it (heard the PC port was dog shit too), so for me this is brilliant

  3. Overall I'm happy with this! I didn't buy into the hype, and the only rumour I saw that peaked my interest was the Rumour of Dark Souls, Red Dead Redemption and GTAV coming to Switch, which 1 out of those three ain't bad (and theres potential for a full direct in 20 or so days to reveal more info and those)

I'll get Dark Souls as it broke my Xbox and I never replaced it/completed it and sold all my games

I never got Tropical Freeze so I might just buy that too

I never played the World ends with you so i'll have that

Hyrule Warriors means I can sell another Wiiu game

And I might get Ys, but I've already listed a lot I could buy so that might end up waiting

  4. points Most of the i mentioned above i can get over after a second viewing,

    Spoiler

snoke was handled badly over two films so perhaps cutting their losses was a good idea

Rey's parentage could still be up to debate, the source of information wasn't trustworthy as both Ren and Snoke (who manipulated the link for both of them) had a reason to turn Rey, so making her no longer care would be in their benefit.

And in reality Snoke, Phasma and Maz might of had potential but they were handled badly enough that it doesn't matter if they are gone

The real problems i have now, are still that Leia should have taken Holdo's fate and Luke

The more i think about it the whole him trying to kill Ben makes absolutely no sense! Luek Sykwalker, ever the optimist, on learning the Tyranical Genocidal Vader is his father did not give up on him, perused him and succeeded in turning him, going on to save the galaxy.

Then In his own temple, supposedly he was training a new batch of Jedi and everything is going well, he notices at the last minute that Ben has a darkness in him like his father (why exactly did he say Vader at this point at not his Father or Anakin?)  and decided he had no chance of preventing his fall and would just kill him? WUT? it might make sense if they'd set up things weren't going well and Luke was already in a dark place, but for someone with his track record to sudden;y think he wasn't capable is madness - or rather its lazy writing to set up a reson for Rey to not trust Luke and set up a point for Ren to have turned! they threw Luke and his Character development of the previous films under the bus to give motivation to two characters

Its just bad writing for some characters

I've just got back from seeing this. I'll need a second viewing to allow me to appreciate the film a bit more and to fully digest it all. My first impressions are that I am quite underwhelmed and that I felt it was a bit disappointing in many places. There were certain things that I liked, but ultimately a lot of energy was "wasted" in certain areas.

      The Good (Reveal hidden contents)

I liked the development of Kylo Ren. A much more refined character than the one that appeared in The Force Awakens. Clearly there's a lot of conflict with the character and his scenes with Rey acted were well balanced, as intended.

The surprise inclusion of Yoda! Also, the more playful Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi Yoda! Loved his scene.

I enjoyed the Rey and Luke moments and thought it was interesting seeing a much older and jaded Luke on screen. Very much in the mould of Obi Wan in A New Hope.

The Millenium Falcon sequence at the end looked fantastic as it manoeuvred through the caverns/caves. A classic Star Wars type of moment.

The Not So Good (Reveal hidden contents)

A lot of the film was centred around Poe, who I found quite difficult to like in this film. I understand that he's trying to be built up as a cocky-Han-Solo-type-of-guy, but it didn't come off well at all, imo. Found it difficult to enjoy his scenes as he just came across as quite bratish and reckless, and not very heroic. It didn't feel like the same character from The Force Awakens.

Finn was completely wasted in this. I felt like his character was sidelined and give a really stupid, unneeded plot to that Casino planet place. That whole sequence felt very prequel-trilogy, including the chase scene. Pretty bad, imo.

The lack of a really good light-sabre fight. Disappointing, especially as there are several characters in the film who could have contributed to a great fight scene.

Captain Phasma. A disappointing end to a depressingly unfulfilled character. Could have been the Boba Fett of this trilogy.

Snoke. So...just as he was beginning to get a little bit interesting (he can use the force, awesome, let's learn more about him) they get rid of him. In a very anti-climactic way, too. He didn't even get a good on-screen death. Again, depressingly unfulfilled.

      The Terrible (Reveal hidden contents)

Leia. Her death scene was actually ok. I thought it was built up and executed relatively ok...but the preceding scene where she flies back to the ship whilst in deep space was just absolutely hideous. Awful, awful scene and up there with the worst bits from the prequel trilogy. To make matters worse, the character does nothing for the rest of the film, bar the odd line here or there. They could have quite easily kept her blatantly on-screen death and then cut her for the rest of the film. The scene itself looked abysmal and so out of place. Shocking that it was allowed to be kept in the final movie!

Benecio Del Toro's character...wow. I didn't even know he was even in the film, so I perked up when I saw this obviously great Oscar winning actor on screen. What a disappointing character that he has been given. What's with the stutter/stammer, too? The plotline that he was involved it was, again, so badly out of place and pointless. They didn't need that "Casino" planet area and could have quite easily merged his character and Rose together into one, so that she was able to access the information needed to get rid of the tracker. Waste of a good actor.

The more I think about it, the more disappointed I feel. Definitely need a second viewing, but I'm in no rush to see it again.

Just wondering whether this current conveyor belt of Star Wars films is hindering the series somewhat. This could have been better with a bit of tidying up and better editing. A bit more time in the oven and a few cuts to certain scenes here and there. Maybe.

I agree with all of that really, a lot of set up plot lines we really wasted and supremely underwhelming I liked a lot of the film but felt underwhelmed overall

    Spoiler

II didn't like Rey'so parents being nobodies, sure I get the idea but it felt utterly off! They spent 7 building up how she was strong in the force,  dropped hunts about her being a skywalker even to the point of Maz basically saying she was one! It now makes little sense for the Skywalker sabre to have called to her

It would have made more sense for her to be a skywalker, a new hope

They threw away characters like Maz, Snoke and Phasma unnecessarily

And despite the reasoning to keep Carie's scenes intact, I feel her final exchange with Derns character should have been recut to have leia on the bridge, have scenes of her on the bridge used and have her take the lightspeed death. Then Derns character could be used for Leia's intended role (and not waste a good character)

A lot of the humour was out of place, like after deaths or powerful moments, star wars has humour but it felt too much, forced and like padding

I need a second viewing, it's a good film with some serious flaws and certainly not the modern empire far too many paid off critics claim

One potentially big positive of this change - N-E is probably not banned as a news site on ResetEra!

I've just seen their review thread of Odyssey is 18 pages, GAFs is three. Someone post the N-E one there if you're registered!

I was a gaf member and occasionally posted but wasn't part of any particular "community" so never joined a Discord so am not over there yet. Hopefully won't be long until we can register.

Done! i'd post a screen shot but i've no idea how to upload now and photobucket is now shit

  7. I've never bothered with Discord and now feel very out of the loop.

Gaf is on fire right now, people are openly being offensive and threads discussing anything are quickly locked with people showing displeasure at the situation being banned.

I'm not one to shitpost for a permaban on Gaf so I might just stop posting and let my account die.

Still it was nice to have a PM from Excelsiorlef after saying I'd miss them and others.

I'll be patiently awaiting a way into ResetEra, might even not use Agent Gibbs and go with my preferred user name of ChrisP8Three

  8. Lego dimensions was just too expensive for what you got, from a lego collector stand point the packs were light on items, from a digital content point of view a lot were light on content and the game practically forced you to buy figures by locking their abilities.

It really should have had a cheaper option, a dlc only or just mini figure only packs and disks for vehicles (some were silly like a camera for the Gremlins?)

all packs should really have been 1/3 cheaper to be viable, still kudos for going as long as it is

Is this the guy who was found out to be a Nazi?

Milo? nope it was some older bloke if I'm remembering right....I'll see if I can find the article since off topic is gone as a source

Can't find a source but remember it was some older professor, seem to think he got mobbed outside after being prevented from speaking but he stayed and debated with the protestors outside despite some just shouting abuse. Whilst I didn't necessarily agree with what he said, he made very clear concise polite arguments and discussions with the protestors and came across very well, on the flip side the protestors seemed completely childish, unreasonable and unwilling to listen to anything outside of their world view.

That said even a 'Nazi'* should be allowed to speak, but that freedom of speech works two ways and does not exclude them from criticism or legitimise their view,  the crowd/attendees have a right to debate and prove them wrong, catch them in their misconceptions and potentially change views - completely excluding people like that and making a massive deal about them serves to empower and embolden their followers who see it as justification for their actions and vindication that everyone who disagrees cannot argue against them so resort to censorship, more than anyone else I feel they need to be challenged in public forum and allowed to tie themselves up in their idiocy and not give them the pleasure of the vindication - Donald Trump capitalised on this and shows the danger of just vilifying a person/viewpoint . That or treat them like some amazing protestors do with the Westboro Baptist Church, make a peaceful sarcastic counter protest showing them up for the bigots they are.

*There are no true Nazi's these days only ridiculous wannabe's who are White Supremacists but pretend they are SS, hitlers gonna have a second coming etc

The mods were heavy handed all the time. Seemingly randomly banning. That is known.

I am not convinced at all of the bolded. All of society is sexist, Its how we have been. Left or Right as labels are almost meaningless when it comes to human behaviour. Neogaf especially, has flaws typical of its userbase which is very much in line with studies and work done on online communities. Sexism was rife there they just somewhat prevented many from speaking it out and letting it consume all discussion. The same goes for race and other issues.

The gamergate narrative doesnt stick, shouting loudest or drowning out others does not mean your opinion is more correct or valuable. As it is gamers have a bad reputation for good reason.

This #Metoo movement is a good thing.

If was up to provide specific examples i would, i've been dogpiled on there for offering a view that didn't meet the hive mind. The best example i can think of was a thread about a speaker being effectively prevented from speaking at a US university because of protests over prior comments, and people quite reasonably argued that it is censorship and that freedom of speech allows them the right to speak, they should be allowed to speak and the correct way to protest them is to challenge and debate their views to prove them wrong, that suppressing a view point pushes it underground and allows resentment to foster. That asn't a popular view by the vocal members who argued allowing them to speak perpetuates their views and its a waste of time discussing anything with them they are not worth the air or the time, basically viewing them as nothing, they didn't see how that in itself is a dangerous view point to take, to censor those who don't conform.

The Gamegate things on gaf were a shit show on both sides, i stuck well out of that.

The problem was there was a core of vocal members who were either mods or friends with mods who shielded themselves from things and as you say random in their enforcement of rules.

The MeToo movement is a bloody amazing thing.

  11. Wow I'm busy renovating my house and not on the internet for two days and Gaf dies? I'm not sure how to feel about that!

On the one hand Gaf is great for news and expose's, I loved people's deep dives into game history, development and secrets (Mama Robotnik's Legacy of Kain stuff was amazing) and some of Off Topic's discussion was amazing

but on the other hand over the past two to three years I feel the moderation and forum has become increasingly intolerant of opposing views and I don't mean accepting right wing views I mean accepting any view that even slightly leans away from the hive mind neo left view that sections take. GamerGate was the catalyst for this in my mind, I saw people make quite reasonable neutral views or even be willing to discuss the opposing views and make concessions that there are issues and they'd get dog piled or banned, likewise with social issues if people didn't take the typical view then they were dog piled of banned and all tared with the same brush of condoning violence and abuse against women.

I remember getting banned when Clarkson hit the top gear staff member, for criticising the choice of wording in some articles, I drew issue with violent and sustained attack over a 30 second period which implied a constant barrage of fists, when other articles said it was a few blows over said period. I said we should wait for the full facts to come out before jumping up and down and revelling in how he was exposed as some sort of brute, however the hive mind at the time was how he was akin to some violent sociopath who had been exposed as beating a man to within an inch of his life - I was banned by Modbot along with anyone who defended or took a neutral stance, with the explanation of "encouraging violence". People even said they couldn't believe I was banned in said thread, people who towed the 'party' line. but that's my example, I've seen other discussions occur and beyond page 2 reasonable discussion doesn't occur its usually back patting and dog piling beyond that point.

I think it got addressed at one point and moderation on that stance drew back, but equally for fear of banning and dog piling a lot of people didn't post comments or opinions and you'd get threads pop up where discussion could occur but it would be an echo chamber of people agreeing, and sometimes hilariously because nobody was there to dogpile people would then pick apart posts and argue amongst themselves over semantics and implied this and that.

All of which is hilarious as I'd heard about Evillores questionable history in the past and other mods who had hilarious double standards.

I hope someone takes over Gaf and it survives but with some changes, otherwise on a purely selfish basis I say we start a membership drive on Gaf and try and poach the user base

  12. I think I'm bored with D2 and I've not even had the chance to do a raid!

My friends and I all joined a large clan in hopes that a large clan would bring the benefits of the clan/loot perks but it had its own issue of too many people to do the raid and a clan leader who saps the fun out of everything, but that's a personal issue which I could get over if...

The end game was actually worth while!

the Token game that is the random loot is boring, collecting planet and faction tokens is redundant as they are always below your light level by quite a margin, so unless you get a gun you really want AND have something higher to infuse into it, its a waste of time

PVP, Strikes, The Raid, Iron Banner and everything rely on unique tokens and no longer drop any specific loot, there aren't any cool strike specific loots, looks for win streaks etc its all down to the seaside token machine that is the loot system

You can raise your light level by doing the weekly tasks and getting higher light level loot, the end game tasks do not guarantee this making it inefficient to replay or even bother with them - I'm light level 299, I'm swimming in (low level) exotics and forced to use the exotics/legendaries which have dropped at a level that they are useful at

Exotics no longer really feel exotic, some have cool perks but most are the same as perks on legendaries or the rest of the weapon is trash so theres no point using it

All guns feel weak and we seem to be back to year one D1 weapon balancing

Kinetic weapons (might just be me) just seem to rarely drop from any token machine, I've never got a kinetic mod and when I do get a kinetic it seems to be a low light level one of certain guns (I've had that old smith and Weston hand cannon & the Scar something Ak47 look alike 90% of the time IF a kinetic drops), there seems to be a vast prevalence of energy weapons dropping to the point I feel we might as well have had two energy weapon slots and no kinetic anymore.

PVP....... uhhh no choice of game, everything is so balance it just feels like its lost any magic, for gods sake balance PVE and PVP separately

and my biggest problem now seems to be all the year 3 Destiny 1 stuff that's missing making this game seem like it should really just have been an expansion pack for Destiny 1 allowing us to retain the strikes, the raids, the PVP maps

I manage about an hour or so a week to do the flash point and claim any clan rewards from the people who haven't been burnt out

bungie really need to quickly put all the QOL improvements of Y3D1 in as fast as possible and port old strikes/raids etc because otherwise i'll be abandoning D2 and only returning if the first DLC looks good enough to buy (not got the season pass because so far its not been enticing enough to want to buy future expansions blind)

  13. I still put money on the reason we never know about that ship in previous incarnations is because its not star fleet its section 31 (discovery NCC1031.....)

I loved that episode very good, still feels very Stargate Universe (again still a great thing) but I was not overly happy the character I loved was killed off (but I read above she's listed in later episodes hmm)

  14. Episode three felt very Stargate Universe, now don't me wrong i love Stargate Universe, but it didn't feel like Trek.

    Spoiler

Tech was all over the place, the discovery is researching biopower sources that allow something akin to either Transwarp or Kelvin Khan's interplanetary teleportation but for ships......again i have to remind myself they have said time and time again this is Prime unvierse before Prime kirk and TOS.......and yet nothing seems like that, it seems Kelvin and i'd be okay with that but they say otherwise for some reason.

Seems like Future War Cult are poised to win this one already

They have the best PvE weapons supposedly, I know the hand cannon I got last night was amazing, 11 round mag, high impact and range and the main perk was one where rounds stick to enemies and explode after a delay

  16. The faction system is pretty good and right now you can farm it like crazy (incoming patch no doubt) land at Io in the lost oasis and go into the lost sector to your left, run through destroying the 6 cashes, back out to lost oasis, turn round back in and hit it again, rinse and repeat! I had 130 tokens in about 40min

Just finished watching the first two episodes. I thought it was ok but not brilliant. I feel like they got rid of the one character I actually liked and I still can't stand the way the Klingons or their ships look.

That's kind of how I felt about it, it was good enough but no better than any other trek pilot.

    It felt rather confused for its setting which detracted me from the actual episode;

Its meant to be in the Prime universe (not the Kelvin movie one)

In the Prime universe they did not have holographic commination's anything like that until some late DS9 and Voyager , so for them to be using it pre-TOS was really odd and stood out as odd

But that is nothing compared to the Klingons which seemed to be very much like if not exactly like how they were in the Kelvin universe, I was hoping this was just one Klingon house, but they showed people from all 24 houses and they all looked like that, the sort of Reman/Klingon hybrid that is now the klingons

Their technology is some sort of Egyptian/Gothic mix and their culture has shifted away from Honour towards religion

If this is meant to be in the prime universe where they are a militaristic race with an honour based culture then it does not fit unless by the end they all suddenly completely change appearance (ad they reference the augment virus) and move away from religion.

Interviews with the show runners though mention they changed the Klingons to bring them up to date, aka just because they could! they could have updated them without making them so radically different from the universe/timeline setting they are apparently going for.

Now if they just said this is in the Kelvin universe then it would be fine and we can take this as an introduction to Klingons in that universe, but aside from that the show was pretty much spot on and I'm looking forward to more, I just feel some things have been changed for changes sake which detracts from it now.
