  1. I don't know the legal stuff as to whether a second referendum can be called or not, but I do think that a referendum should be more about the percentage of the population that vote rather than the population of voters... but I guess that's an ongoing issue anyway..?

I also think that scottish independance could be a lot stronger a decade down teh line if it's a no vote and if Salmond continues to push the correct buttons. if there's a genuine bunch o' reasons for it and it just takes time to prove it to the scottish public, then fair enough. But if salmond loses this ref and just withers away then it damages any chance of independance for a long time.

  2. this was the first result for searching for 'Senior Client Reporting Analyst' and it's a ruddy typical job advert full of nonsense. I have literally no idea what it is this kind of job is supposed to do. So you'd be a senior. That means you'll be 'above' others. An analyst means you have 'data' to work with, and 'client reporting' either means your data is the reports from your clients, or your reports go to the clients. I don't know. At all. wtf do you do? Similarly, how does the above job application form not make you want to stab someone? The office of fair trading needs to step in to the job market and promot CLEAR FUCKING LANGUAGE for job advertisements and applications. It would sort the unemployment market out in a cinch.

EDIT: looking for which governing body to email about the language used in job adverts. So I can COMPLAIN.

EDIT: Couldn't find where to coplain so emailed my local MP. Happy valentines day!

  3. As bard said, this was always a place where you could go off on tangents and not really need a tl;dr because you knew people would invest their time. I'm forever torn between posting and not posting. I would say in the last 12 months I've written out - then deleted - more posts than I've actually posted by, probably, five-fold. A large part of me thinks this is because you get to know each other so much that you actually know what the responses will be, so you just don't bother.

@Rummy several times we had some great man-to-man chats without any other n-ers and all wavelengths were set to ditto. I still maintain that if we lived in the same town we'd be bros! So come move to brighton :P#

This thread is making me emo. Again.

EDIT: I also wanted to say that another reason why this forum has been great is that we have had a fairly constant supply of great new members. As much as we all like to say the "good old days" have passed by (no matter when we joined!), the newbs that stick around have always been a joy and a pleasure to have 'on board', and I don't want to belittle their part in the boards. We could sit around and list all the 'greats' of the years gone by, but the fact is we would always forget someone who had a significant effect on the board, or someone who had a role to play for a long period of time. It is not an offence to those forgotten that we are unable to remember their name this time, and I should hope that any old frequenters who see this thread should understand that reconnecting is totally possible. The easiest and quickest example, for me, is the now @dr bob (maybe I missed a full stop there), who never used to post all THAT much back when he was first around, but has returned and slipped back into the groove without too much fuss and attention-garnering.

I tell you what, though; if there was a better app for me to read/post on work breaks then I would use that and totally do a BISH again (that finished) or a quiz, or something or other that contributed.

Yay long post. No more deleting messages.

  4. I wouldn't be against it if it were to happen.

As pestneb said, the situation with the pound is quite obvious - and I've been rolling my eyes and facepalming at the MPs up in scotland who have claimed that this is the government "bullying" scotland into staying in. It just makes them sound like spoilt children.

  5. I found something on amazon where you can get any picture printed onto a cushion. Small sweet present. Was considering getting my fat face on it but figured... no. I'll let her pick a picture (probably be her guinea pigs).

I may have forgotten to get a card yet... Probably going to get a card and some roses at a petrol station tomorrow..

  6.

As for mixing with real life. I've had a couple of gaming weekend with @david\.dakota after meeting up at the Zelda concert. And I will never forget the unbelievable kindness and support of @nightwolf @Shorty (and his ex) @jayseven who came to see my show in Manchester. And they were all stupidly great in our way too brief chat afterwards.

The play was called Laminated wasn't it? I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh and @Nami is not shorty's ex :P

I've not met anyone here that hasn't been wonderful. I'm sure people would say the same about me irl, but there's been a few rustled feathers with how I am these days (years) online - a grumbling, moaning, git.

  7. @Rummy I mos def remember our meetingz. Always an honour, and I wish it could happen more often!

@forum I grew up with this place open in a window whenver I was online. The relationships between a bunch of mid-teens spread to MSN and IRC then we grew up a bit more and facebook was invented and we went to college then university then got jobs and grew up a bit more and... still here. It's really crazy, actually. No matter what I still check this forum twice a day, and actually it really does pain me that I'm not contributing like I used to. This was always a place I could come and vent, or share my inner-most thoughts. As Martinist says, most corners of the internet that I've found haven't quite combined anonymity with amicability. Generally there's a huuuge amount of respect given and shared amongst users (of GCC), and I've always appreciated that.

One element of reason for why I post less is because I am always aware that anything I write may come back to me. Either via facebook if someone has a vendetta against me, or because I've let a few 'key' people irl know about this place so i can't just rant about my lovelife or my work life or my friendship circle on here as it may actually feed into REAL LIFE. That's probably the biggest change to how I use the forum.

But I still come here because it's not too fast-paced and I know people. It's really like a giant interactive soap opera!

  8. Dude I know that exact feeling. I went to an open day hoping to get some shitty bar work, and the guy interviewing me looked at my CV and offered me a team leader role. I'd never 'managed' a team before and had zero experience in hospitality, had no idea how to do any of the duties asked of me, but fuck it I needed a job and would be an idiot turning it down.

I turn up a few days later for a tour of the stadium and was expecting an in-depth explanation of what would be asked of me before the 12 hour shift a few days later. The tour lasted 15 mins and the boss was called away -- he said "see you saturday!" ... So I turned up to do a job where I had to tell 10 people what to do, running a kiosk serving thousands of people. Talk about baptism of fire.

Two thoughts got me through. The first was what have I got to lose? and the second was well at least I'll know a bit more for the next shift. Ultimately it was the fact that I had just enough self-belief to get through that shift, and since then it's taught me a hell of a lot and has led to lots of other great opportunities.

I would trust in your superiors. They know what to look for and they most likely understand way more than you think about the little mistakes that happen. The qualities they see in you will far supersede and of your self-noticed misdemeanors.

You will never be ready to excel at something new until you've done that new something. You will have the leeway to find your feet. The positives are enormous. You will grow as a person and you can basically consider this a step up in your career. You will only ever move sideways and upwards. This is progress.

Congratulations! Best of luck for tomorrow/today (presuming that's when you start the new role)!

  9. I'd take what the customer says with a pinch of salt, but Bright House is the kind of place which feeds off of debt to some extent. I think you definitely did the right thing in going back to the other jobs - I'd bet that at some point down the line you'll be faced with a new conundrum; it'll come to a point you'll only be able to keep ONE of the jobs.

  10. Had a strange day. Had one of britain's top bodybuilders show me how to use a chinbar, and had a nice chat with John Hathaway about the early days of UFC! I didn't stick around once the mental fitness classes started up, but it was a really nice atmosphere and maybe I'll get the guts to go .. once I see my eye doc!

  11. @flameboy many thanks for the games :D

I didn't order teh stand in the end (amazon cuntish stuff that I've mentioned in another thread; I had a voucher that they expired.. long story)

Generally I always thought that I knew what game I preferred... but generally if a game is highly rated it'll be a great experience. The main issue will be, of course, how the newb is dealt with. FTL is a very straightforward game to play, but a difficult one to master. There aren't loads of menus and rules to read before you play, and you can definitely learn from your mistakes. @Ronnie I think it's a mistake to think limbo is not a platformer but is a scary game. It's not trying to be amnesia or descent - it's just providing a really sweet take on an old formula (playforming) and well worth the experience.

I just downloaded Loom, a point and click game... it has a fantastic atmosphere and really creates an imaginative world. It's still hard as fuck, but true to the old school mechanics. Got Sam and Max and BTTF and Walking Dead on wishlists though!

  12. Emailed amazon, will wait on response. Work was a good day - effectively mananaged to hit my weekly target anready so got the rest of the week to chill. A much better day. Also got out paycheques and were told we're getting paid a day early... so things are more up than down!

Good luck with your interview nightwolf. Hope you kick ass. @Josh64 hope all is reasonably well!

  13. - threw up at 3am

    - threw up at 4am

    - threw up at 5am

    - phew on late shift...

    - no food to take for lunch as it probably caused Teh Illz

    - Hospital calls to say the appointment i've waited months for is cancelled

    - Card still declined in most places so couldn't buy lunch

    - get home to find amazon voucher for £60 is out of date so they've just emptied it

    YAY MONDAYS.

On the plus side Drahkon totally made my day by giving me a whole bunch o' games. Pretty much made up for it all!

@nightwolf - the whiney bursts through from me once in a while (as you know) and everyone here was super nice. Go for it and people will listen!

  14. I've added a fair chunk of the above-mentioned games to my wishlist, and I have a great library to be getting on with. Tonight I play Half Life and conduct a test to see how long my laptop lasts. Gonna buy me one of those cooler stand things, and a USB multi-adapter thing as I need to get my external hard-drive involed (along with a mouse, headset, and the cooling table thing, it's getting ridiculous).

  15. FTL's learning curve is pretty good. Getting to grips with it now - going from world 1 to 3 to now having 7 as my PB. Unlocked a 2nd ship so will give that a go...

Laptop is straining after 'long' sessions... and coinciding with my landlord giving me a PC table and chair it looks more likely that I'll be trying to save for a PC... even though it'll be some years yet.

Gonna give both FTL a run through, then go back to Papers, Please and see if I can kick more ass now I have a moise and a desk and stuff.

Thanks to the advise and help (and codes) from everyone!
