  1. Football Season 2019-20

I think Soccer Saturday has been in need of a shakeup for quite some time anyway, tbh. The problem when you don't change things up is you end up with a stagnant or dated formula, see Soccer AM for that. The show is looking a bit tired, imo. I'm all for seeing new blood on the show and you do need an injection every now and then or it just becomes formulaic. I'm a bit surprised Le Tissier has lasted as long as he has and am a bit surprised (well, very surprised actually) that Paul Merson is one of the ones that they are keeping on.
  2. Where Do You Go Out To Eat?

Ahh, I must try the Mexican ones then. Trust the Americans to bollocks that up.
  3. Where Do You Go Out To Eat?

Now that places seem to be opening up sloooowly, I thought that I would make a thread asking where you guys would normally go out for food. Might even be quite useful to recommend special places where you live or in other places that you have visited. In Bournemouth, my favourite Indian restaurant is The Eye Of the Tiger. Brilliant name and the food there is absolutely fucking divine. Never had anything less than a 9/10 there. The meat samosas are perfect and the sauces that they serve it with are so sweet. I always have the "Tiger Special" which is dish that contains strips of chicken, mixed with a tikka masala and bhuna type of sauce, and it is served sizzling hot. Hnnnnnngggg. The peshwari naan bread is also amazing, so sweet. We try and go to Spain once a year in the summer because @Eenuh's family have a home there that's tied in with their business. There's an amazing restaurant that we go to called Antica Roma. It's our favourite restaurant to visit when we are there and the pasta dishes are beautiful. So creamy and delicious. Again, never had a disappointing night there. The pizza selections are great, but the pastas are just amazing. The last time that we were there, we discovered an amazing tapas restaurant next door to it, which I can't wait to go back to. I've forgotten the name of it at the moment, but will try and remember later. Probably some of the best paella that I've ever had when I was there. Could easily have had the whole thing again and there was tons of it, too. Last year, we discovered Koh Tai Tapas for the first time, years after a friend recommended this to us. The crispy squid is my favourite. I could eat a double portion of that, if I wanted to. The sliced crispy beef was also amazing the last time I was there, so may have to go for that again. Plus, you can also never go wrong with prawn toast or spring rolls. Hnnnngggg. I will post more later, but I thought that I would start with these three first. Making myself hungry in the process...
  4. Where Do You Go Out To Eat?

The food in that image looks a lot easier to eat, I do agree. I'm a huge fan of enchiladas, quesadillas and fajitas and I guess that's because they are all based on the soft wraps rather than the crunchy tacos. Wouldn't mind a place where you could get enchiladas on the go.
  5. Where Do You Go Out To Eat?

I have never had a taco bell and can't get over it being a thing, tbh. I always find tacos very messy to eat. They break apart as soon as you bite into them. Am I missing something?
  6. Football Season 2019-20

Fuck, that's awesome. Phil Foden is a very exciting player and could potentially have a huge Man City career. Looks like a top talent.
  7. Football Season 2019-20

Name drop! (haven't really look at who has been called up, but only know that Grealish wasn't part of it)
  8. Football Season 2019-20

It definitely is an odd one and I can't think of a reason for it. On merit, he should be in there. He's had a terrific season. Put him in there!
  9. What Have You Bought?

Apparently 8 different cuts of the film exist... I have the 5 disc ultimate edition. Just checking online and found this: Five-Disc Box Set, Ultimate Edition4-fold Digipak in embossed, hinged tin-boxIncludes:The Final Cut (2007)Dangerous Days: Making Blade RunnerBlade Runner: US Theatrical Cut (1982)Blade Runner: International Theatrical Cut (1982)Blade Runner: Director's Cut (1982)Enhancement ArchiveWorkprint (With alternate music, footage and voice-over)All Our Variant FeaturetteCollectibles:Motion Film Clip16-Page Photo & Contents BookletRare Arts Folio So it features 4 cuts of the film and then the workprint is kinda like...a crossbreed between an alternative cut and a draft version of the film. Interesting. The ending of the original is vaaaastly different when compared the ending in the other cuts. Gorgeous film. I picked up all that for £5 from HMV. Was just walking to the checkout and then spotted that on a shelf on the way. I didn't even break stride, just picked it up and kept on walking.
  10. What Have You Bought?

Maybe it's hard to judge the Ultra-HD edition because you need to see that on the right display. But, I've always thought that T2 had this wonderful blue hue to it, like a metallic gloss that was prevalent in certain scenes, like the hospital escape at night. The 2017 version seems to be the best looking one, although I don't think the 2015 version is too ugly either. I think that would still look great on the screen, although the colouring is nicer on the 2017 version. Judging that specific video, the 4K Ultra-HD version looks the worst out of the three. I wish there was some kind of way you could have access to all of the versions and then just choose whichever one you can watch, so that you don't get caught out by this sorta stuff.
  11. What Have You Bought?

I bought a special edition Blade Runner tin/box that came with 5 different versions of the film, including the Director's Cut. I always thought it was odd how there could be multiple versions of the same film, but I guess in situations like that, it's down to individual preferences. Terminator 2 4K sounds like it should be perfect. Shocking if they manage to mess that up. It looks impeccable for its age anyway, so it should look incredible in 4K. The effects in that are sublime. Still one of the best action films I've ever seen.
  12. Football Season 2019-20

It's a right mess and, annoyingly, I think it's going to be time consuming. Should be looking at getting new players in and the focus being on that. That being said, I do think the Greek authorities are trying to pull a fast one here. The details of the case certainly don't add up. According to the BBC article: The second and third points don't really make a lot of sense. If the first point is true and the sister was drugged, surely the hospital is the first place you'd go. Otherwise, why go into a van at all. So, I think that part is true, since Maguire and co would have just carried on their evening if nothing was amiss. But then, how did the van end up at the police station and what led into the confrontation with the plain-clothed officers? That party is sketchy and I think there's more to it than is being led on. Certainly not what the clubs needs though and it's quite unsavoury, regardless if Maguire is guilty or not.
  13. What Have You Bought?

What on earth? The 2013 version looks so much uglier compared to the 2011 release. That's not how evolution works. Evolution is supposed to make things better, not woooorse.
  14. What Have You Bought?

Aye, there's a lot to be said for those extras. It pains me sometimes when I stream a film and it doesn't even have basic subtitle options for English, let alone multiple languages or the crazy extras that you get with Blurays or DVDs. That's one area where physical media still has streaming beat.
  15. Whooops, sorry, I thought I had replied to this bit already! When I mention about the little finger, it's usually the finger that is the weakest amongst people learning how to play guitar or even amongst those who are not beginners. It ranges from person to person, but there are some who mostly use the index and middle quite confidently but then struggle with the ring and little fingers. Or if they put the little finger down, it's more of a struggle to get the right connection, so you get fret buzzing or just not the desired sound. Did you make any progress with this or did it become any easier? It's an odd one, because the sizes of the frets are beginner at the lower end of the neck, so you should almost have the opposite problem. Looks like maybe it's more difficult because your whole arm is closer to your body when by the 9th-12th frets, whereas it's moving away when at the lower frets. Could be a case of the positioning not being comfortable for your arm to begin with and then this is having a knock-on effect with the wrist. If it's still aching, it might be a case of looking at the entire arm closely and making minor adjustments with the arm included until it feels right and comfortable. Sometimes little things can make a bigger difference, like just adjusting the elbow position, minor adjustments with the forearms, finger placement. Sometimes when I'm playing at the higher frets (like on the 17th) I have to adjust myself to get over to that position, but it never quite feels as smooth as it does compared to the 7th fret, for example. It's something that I probably should work at more, myself. Acoustic guitar is my least favourite type of guitar. I find the bodies are often too big and cumbersome, sometimes just plain uncomfortable to hold for a prolonged period of time. Not only that, but I find it's harder to get the sound you want out of it and it just seems like a bigger overall effort for minimal gain. I'd like to get a smaller-bodied guitar at some point, or just something that is a bit nicer to hold. I have no experience with ukuleles, but I've just had a look on the Gear4Music website (not sure if you have that in the Netherlands) and there are some sweet models for a pretty reasonable price, imo. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Ukulele-Heritage-Cherry-Sunburst/UFB I mean, that is pretty tempting, tbh. You could probably get models which are just as nice for a lower price than that. There's a bit more of a novelty with that too, since you're more likely to come across an acoustic guitar player than you are a ukulele player. Do it.
  16. Football Season 2019-20

It may initially seem like an outlandish prediction, but the more you look into it, the more sense it makes. Let's compare some of the leagues. Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga only play 34 games, compared to 38 in La Liga, the Premier League and Ligue 1. So, from the start, they've got an advantage there by playing less games over the course of the season. On top of that, they finished 13 points clear of Dortmund, who were two points off them the season prior to that. So, they improved that gap and they've just added Sane to that attacking line-up whilst Dortmund (amongst other football clubs) have reportedly lost around £40-50million due to Covid. They're more likely to sell off players rather than adding serious quality to the squad, and there is the talk of Sancho going this season. I don't think he will, but I fully expect him to leave next season and Dortmund will cash in because they need the money. Bayern will retain their Bundesliga title and I think they'll do it by a greater margin of 13 points, probably closer to 20 or even more than that. The Covid factor is a huge one and the biggest factor in determining who will win it next year, imo. Fixture congestion is going to make things very, very difficult for clubs who are trying to compete on more than one front and in the more competitive leagues. Liverpool won the league by miles, but their post-lockdown form has been patchy, although that could also be down to them sewing their title up quickly and then just taking the foot off the gas. The Premier League will be a more competitive league next season with Chelsea adding to their squad, City already adding to it and United looking to do so. It's going to be harder for a club like Liverpool to compete on those multiple fronts. The La Liga teams look in a mess, with Barcelona's sketchy transfers coming back to bite them with sub-par performances from players like Griezmann and Dembele being injured. Real Madrid also look very messy and in need of a re-think. Bayern have all of the pieces in the right places for them to not only seriously challenge in the Champions League again, but I think they'll win it. They've got a shorter league, meaning more rest for the Champions League games, that winning mentality, squad depth, goals all over the team, a rock-solid defence, and (crucially) their opponents are all over the place and will potentially suffer from burnout when the fixture congestion kicks in. I don't think it's really as simple as comparing it to past seasons because the Covid factor is too big a differentiator. It is going to make it very difficult for an English team to win the Champions League and I would be surprised if we even get an English team in the semi-final next year. I'm willing to revisit this post in a year's time to see how close it is to the reality. I'm not usually one to make big predictions like this, but it just seems that the pieces are there ready for Bayern Munich and they have the squad, mentality and the setup to do it again.
  17. What Have You Bought?

The world is streaming their films and there's you collecting all of this physical media. The boxart for The Fifth Element is awesome. It's also odd how the Star Wars films with the best covers (prequel and sequel trilogy) but are the worst films. It looks like the worse a film is, the better the cover. That cover for a New Hope is hideous, but the one for the Rise of Skywalker is actually pretty nice.
  18. General Movie Thread

I'm loving the tone of that trailer. It has the right sort of a look of a film-noir or crime thriller, so we'll see what the dialogue and story is like. They're the bits that will make or break this film. I fully expect Pattinson to nail the character. He's developed into a great actor. Loved him in The Lighthouse, which was weird as hell, btw.
  19. Football Season 2019-20

Well done to Bayern Munich. Can't fault them, they've done everything right and just always seem to create crucial chances and then take them. They know how to win the big games. Definitely deserved. They'll win it next year, as well. I can't really see why not. They'll walk their league again because they will continue to strengthen and nobody else can come close, meaning that they'll be suitably rested to defend the cup next year. They have a lot of things in their favour. Can't fault their recruitment either, because they consistently get in great players who do the business. Can't argue with how they're run.
  20. Football Season 2019-20

You get the feeling that, if they wanted to, Bayern could have done more tonight. Could easily have scored more. Lyon played well but Bayern are just unstoppable at the moment. Lewandowski...fucking hell. Insane scoring tally.
  21. Spider-Man (PS4)

What's the DLC like for this? Is it worth it? Really enjoyed this game and it was great fun just swapping between the different suits and using their abilities. That comic book skin that got earlier is wonderful.
  22. Football Season 2019-20

It's really odd. Lyon should be the ones reacting to City's setup, not the other way around. If City play their regular game, they most likely win tonight. It's just such a stupid and needless thing to do. The first goal was a perfect illustration of it, when they played the really high line, which is much harder to do with 5 defenders than it is with 4. It was a total mess. Similar for the second goal and the third is just down to Ederson making a daft mistake. So many errors. City have turned into a weird team where they have a fantastic midfield, but suddenly look bad up front and bad at the back. Without Aguero, they look hopeless and Jesus is too hit and miss. They've never really replaced Kompany and Laporte has had his injury issues. They'll no doubt spend loads of money in the transfer market, because they like doing that. I enjoyed the game and the fallout is hilarious. Really didn't need to be this way, however. I still can't get over it. If we saw United or Arsenal or Liverpool doing this in the cup against a Championship side, we'd be livid. Obviously Lyon are not a Championship level side, but they were huge underdogs for this game.
  23. Football Season 2019-20

What on Earth was Guardiola doing tonight? He properly dicked the players around by changing too much. Such a silly formation to play and he clearly over-thought this one. I have to say though, they badly need a centre forward because they look so much weaker without Aguero. Take De Bruyne and Sterling out, and it's not a special team at all. Credit to Lyon because I thought they played the game with tons of heart. They did well to get in front and didn't let their heads drop when they got the second. The Sterling miss was horrific and the passage of play that went from that to the third Lyon goal via an Ederson mistake is one of the highlights of this season. Sterling will get loads of stick for the miss but, for me, the blame is mostly at Guardiola's door. He wanted to be seen as a tactical genius and it was the height of arrogance. I will say that this new Champions League format is fantastic. Sooooo much more exciting than a cagey first leg followed by a second leg where one team is petrified of going out on away goals. You can draw two games and go out...meh. This format will totally not stay because UEFA will want the extra revenue from a second leg. But, the competition is so much better this way. I want Lyon to win it. Bayern Munich will though. Probably rightfully so.
  24. That's a right pickle to be in. Sorry to hear that you're having a bad time. @Happenstance's idea about the visor sounds like it could be a good solution. I'm a bit surprised that I'm not seeing as many of those in shops as I thought I would. They seem much more comfortable and manageable than a mask.
  25. The Exercise & Fitness Thread: The Struggle Is Real

Our elliptical trainer finally gave up on us about a week or so ago. It's a great machine, but the middle piece (like the spine where the handles attach to) finally eroded away. We had a damp problem in our old flat and a crack started to form in that area of the machine. Over time, the crack grew larger and larger. We tried a few things to keep it secure, but always knew eventually it would need to be replaced. Unfortunately, I used it a week ago and it was just wobbling so badly in the middle that it was unsafe to use anymore. So, got that taken away and bought a new elliptical machine. I'm enjoying using it, but it feels slightly "heavier" to use, maybe because the flywheel is about twice as heavy as the previous machine. It's sturdy as hell, but you do have to put a bit more effort into it to get moving. It'll take time to get used to it, but the goal is to keep fit, so this will help achieve that. Numbers wise, I'm not doing the same distance or calories burned as the previous machine...in fact, it appears closer to half even though I'm moving the resistance levels up and going for the same time. It might be because the pace is a bit slower due to the machine requiring more effort to use it, or maybe the older machine was quite a way off. It's a new scale to get used to, so I guess there's no use in comparing it to the old one, too much. Hope we can get years of usage out of it!
