  1. Football Season 2019-20

We're back! How is everyone feeling ahead of the new season? Are you excited about your team's prospects? Which players are you looking forward to seeing? Also also, please create your Fantasy Football team and join the N-E league! I've just created my team.
  2. Football Season 2019-20

The perfect word to describe the football that Manchester United play hasn't been invented yet. I think if it were to be a sound, it would be meeeehhhhhbluuuurrrggghhhhhthatwasshiiiit. Football is a game and we are horrid at playing that game.
  3. Brexit 2019

It has been 2 and a half years since the EU Referendum was held and there are now less than 79 days to go until we will be out of the European Union. It has certainly been a rollercoaster ride during the last few years, with the result of the referendum and the fallout resulting in a very tumultuous time in British politics. For reference, I voted Remain and I have not seen anywhere near enough evidence to suggest that the decision to leave the EU will result in the UK being in a better position than it is currently, in a multitude of ways. I feel that the country has effectively been on pause for this duration, with other important issues having to be brushed aside whilst the Government seems to be fumbling and struggling to come up with a solution of how to make this work. We've seen a Prime Minister resign (in what feels like such a long time ago, now), snap elections caused, a hung parliament, Brexit secretaries come and go, all the while whilst not one, but two national scandals are experienced in Grenfell and Windrush, with both dominating headlines but are now seemingly pushed aside with Brexit taking full focus. It's been a while since we've discussed this on the forum, so it will be interesting to hear other people's views on this. In my opinion, the most important UK political event to happen in our lifetime.
  4. Last of Us Part II

See you later, everyone. I'm going into hibernation until February!
  5. Football Season 2019-20

@Blade, well done on Sheffield United's success, so far. I have to say that the standard of football played by the promoted teams has been good. Norwich look well coached, too. We've got West Ham away today and I honestly think we'll do well to get anything from it. The trouble is that I just can't see where the goals are going to come from, aside from Dan James and Rashford capitalising on a mistake or some sort of solo effort. After seeing City destroy Watford yesterday, we are so far away from being to put in a performance like that or create as many chances as they do. 1-1 or 0-0 today.
  6. Brexit 2019

This is an absolute shitshow and a waste of about 4 years. There are STILL no credible plans for leaving. The original leave date was the end of March, yet there are still no processes in place now. There's still nothing on the Irish border for example. It is the duty of our own government to actually show something credible with how "Leaving can work" and not to just point fingers to blame the other side. I have not seen anything tangible to suggest that the country will be in a superior position once we leave the EU compared to staying in it. Where's the evidence that this is in our best interests? I find it slightly/very amusing that we seemingly want to give more power to our Government or "take back control" of this and that, yet the people that continuously get into power don't actually have a fucking clue what to do with it. Some of the gaffes that have been made over the last few years and the lack of expertise shown by our officials is downright poor. Is this really the best our country can muster or do? I fully expect Boris Johnson to just attempt to do whatever he wants, whether he succeeds or fails. The rules don't apply to him. It is also rather sickening how he is "lovingly" referred to by some as "Boris" in single name only, as if he is some cuddly pet or loveable rogue or harmless friend of the family. That could not be any further from the truth. This man will lie and cheat to get his own way.
  7. Football Season 2019-20

I was surprised at the final score. I noticed that Chelsea were 2-0 up and thought that they were good for a win. United were pretty bleeeeeeh against Southampton, even when they were down to 10 men. We don't seem to be able to create chances that easily and our set pieces and crossing were just as woeful as last week. A pretty disappointing performance.
  8. General Movie Thread

It looks awful, in my opinion. Genisys was absolutely rubbish and probably one of the worst films that I've seen in the cinema. I'm not getting a great vibe from what I've seen of Dark Fate either. It doesn't look like bucking the trend of shit Terminator films. We're already in negative equity with the ratio of bad Terminator films outweighing the amount of good Terminator movies.
  9. Football Season 2019-20

I've followed the Bury situation on the news and it's simply awful hearing the stories from all of the local fans and residents who live close to the ground. Disgraceful mismanagement by the owners. The rules for those who run clubs needs to be so much more stringent than they currently are, because this sort of situation should have been avoided. It must have been preventable on some level. It looks like Bolton may be getting out their situation, so that's good to hear @Dog-amoto. But, I think we'll hear more and more stories in the next 10 years of this happening to other clubs.
  10. What song(s) are you really into at the moment?!

The album went live on Spotify at around midnight, so I've listened to it once already. First impressions are that it's gooooooood.
  11. Here we go, again! Here's to a successful 2019 to all of you people out there who will be going out into that field to grind, grind and grind some more in the hope of levelling up your stats. This year, I'm hoping to improve my strength, stamina and HP! I'm recovering from my first two sessions of the new year. Yesterday, I destroyed my legs with back squats, front squats, deadlifts, stiff legged deadlifts and calf raises. I used to do the front squats with the crossed arms motion, but I've now learned to do it the "proper way" in the clean/fingers and wrist bent back position, which actually feels quite comfortable now. I've struggled with consistency, particularly with balancing work and exercise. So, the goal is going to be to exercise a lot sooner and to not keeper "putting it off". E.g. do it straight away when I get home from work, or do it as close to waking up as possible. That's the plan!
  12. Football Season 2019-20

There has to be more to it than that, surely?! That fine is pathetic. That's not a deterrent or a punishment.
  13. Football Season 2019-20

I'd love to know what the logic is behind City getting such a pitiful fine compared to Chelsea's ban. Did Chelsea break this law repeatedly? That must be the only difference, surely.
  14. Football Season 2019-20

I think we'll have an alright season, overall. I've predicted that we will finish fifth, although I don't think we'll be far from a top four place. Having said that, if we can get Martial and Rashford upping their goal tallies, we might sneak fourth.
  15. Football Season 2019-20

Delighted with that performance! Martial and Rashford scoring, Pogba assisting, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka looking great in defence on their debuts, James coming on and scoring...and a clean sheet! Couldn't really have asked for any more than that. I want us to stick with this back four for every game.
  16. Exercise & Fitness: 2019 Edition!

That's pretty cool. Good going, @Goafer! I grew up in a Muslim household and so the only meat we ever ate had to be Halal meat. It's something that I've carried on with into adult life, probably mostly out of habit rather than anything else. When going out for a meal with friends, I would usually go for the vegetarian or fish option as a lot of places didn't do Halal meat. These days, I would still most likely prefer to go for the veggie option, or occasionally fish. Every time we go out for a burger, I go for the veggie option and it's been quite interesting to see how the vegetarian choices have improved considerably since I was a kid. It used to be that you only had one or two options and the quality of those options was often quite poor or inferior to what else was on the menu. The choice that there is these days is far superior and vast to what I had growing up. I would highly recommend the falafel burger if you ever go to Gourmet Burger Kitchen. My favourite all-time burger and it's just absolutely delicious. Falafel burgers in general are the absolute business. I eat a fair bit of chicken for the protein, but I rarely eat lamb or beef. I'm very interested in hearing about these synthetic meats that are in development as I think that could be a great alternate choice for the future. Even if a person doesn't go fully vegetarian 100% of the time, simply cutting down is a good thing. There's the moral aspect of animals being killed for food, but also I think society is becoming more aware of the environmental impact of having a meat-based diet. It's an interesting time that we live in.
  17. Football Season 2019-20

@Eenuh also had him in as her keeper. She let out a huge "fuuuuuuck" when I told her that he was giving off injured. Probably will be the most swapped player this weekend. Have you got a fantasy team, brah? Good luck for the season! Although, as I've been down here in Bournemouth for the last decade, I do hope that you get smashed this afternoon. I'm excited at having Maguire in our side. He automatically becomes our best centre back and I think he'll be a good presence to have at the club. Seems like a nice guy, too. We need more likeable players at the club.
  18. So, I recently bought the TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 reverb pedal. I've basically got a list of pedals that I'm interested in, and this one just about won out ahead of the Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi fuzz pedal and also the Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-9. I was leaning towards getting a reverb pedal as I want to start doing some post-rock stuff and this seemed to be the most natural choice to make. The pedal arrived the day before yesterday and I managed to put time aside to give it a whirl. All I have to say is that I'm in LOVE with it already. It's soooooo good. I particularly like the church and shimmer settings as you just get this wide and deep sound that makes the space that you're playing in seem absolutely huge. The finish on the pedal itself is absolutely gorgeous and it just looks stunning straight out of the box. The "mash" button is quite interesting, which isn't something that I knew too much about before buying the pedal. You hit the button to turn it on or off, but by holding the button down when it is on, it almost turns into an expression pedal, meaning that you have a bit more control of how much reverb you're getting out of it. It's similar-ish to the analogue shoulder buttons on a control pad. The mash light that appears right next to the decay knob tell you how hard you're "mashing" the stomp button down, e.g. if you don't touch the pedal, the light is off. If you mash down a little, you get a weaker yellow light. Mashing down harder gives you a deeper yellow light. This is all as well as a red light which is on the bigger mash button itself to indicate whether it's on or off. All in all, I absolutely adore this already. I had so much fun with this yesterday just mucking around and I can tell that there's so much depth within this pedal waiting to be unlocked. Would highly recommend.
  19. I thought it would be quite cool to check out each other's music gear and also maybe talk about ways to improve, our musical history and that sort of stuff! I've been interested in playing music for a very long time, since I was around 5 or so. My mum bought be a cheap acoustic guitar that I took to pre-school and entertained the other kids there. I didn't know how to play at that time, so I think I must have just strummed the shit out of it and wailed like a banshee. When all of my mates were starting to pick up their guitars and stuff, I suddenly thought that maybe it would be interesting to do something different. I was a huuuuuge Oasis fan growing up and seeing the "Don't Look Back In Anger" video with Alan White playing his white Pearl set on a platform in the outdoor swimming pool, it just looked like the coolest thing in the world. I was convinced that I needed to get a drum kit, so I bought one from the local music shop for about £200. Can't remember how old I was exactly at this time, maybe 14? It was their own brand, really bottom of the line and was a basic 5 piece set that didn't even come with a crash, so I had to buy that separately. I've still got the kit, back in Wales. I taught myself how to play after downloading lots of videos featuring Dave Weckl and Jeff Porcaro (Toto). Both are still two of my favourite drummers to this day. Dave Weckl blew my mind and I still consider him one of the top all time drummers in the world, his co-ordination and use of rolls is great. I took my kit with me to Brighton for my second year, but it moved back to Wales once that year was over. I've been kit-less since then...until a few months ago. As we live in a fairly residential area, I thought that an electronic drumset would be my best bet. I scoured the net for hours and hours trying to find the perfect one for me. I watched tons of YouTube reviews and came across a set that I absolutely loved. The Roland TD-30KV. Unfortunately, I got there too late as it was a discontinued line! But, they did have the next model up, the Roland TD-50K. So, I bought it and now I have a drum kit again after about...10 years plus of not having one. It's amazing how natural it feels to get back into it. I absolutely love this kit and it's pretty much one of the best kits on the planet. Love the hell out of it. The kit currently lives in my garage, with all of the home gym stuff. We originally had it upstairs, but the problem was that the sound of the pedal hitting the bass drum made too much noise due to the vibrations going through the floorboards. So, by moving it downstairs, it's made things a lot easier. The only downside is that it gets very warm in there! After I picked up my first drum kit (the one currently in Wales), I saw a free-ad in a newspaper about a cheap bass guitar. I figured "none of my friends can play bass, so I want to learn!" and bought it. It was being sold in Cwmbran, which is the next town over from Newport. Only cost £40. It's pretty bottom of the line, too. The brand is "Marlin" which is as much as the owner knew about it. He even chucked in a cheap bass amp to go with it for free. About a year ago, the guitar jack came loose and retreated into the bass guitar itself. So, I've done some "surgery" to retreat it to get it working. I've kept the actual cable in the jack since and leave it hung up that way, so that I haven't got to open that area up again to reclaim the jack. I find it really fun to play, but I think the time is coming quite soon where I may need to replace it for something a bit newer as my go-to Bass! Next to it, I've got an acoustic guitar that actually belonged to someone else. They knew that I wanted to learn so they gifted me the guitar and I've had it ever since! I've taken that guitar with me everywhere. It came from Newport, then went with me to Brighton, then back to Newport and now in Bournemouth. Same with the Bass! About three or so years ago, I decided that I wanted to learn electric guitar and just woke up one Saturday and scoured the web for one that took my eye. I knew that I couldn't spend tooooo much money on it otherwise @Eenuh wouldn't be pleased. In the end, I settled on an Epiphone Les Paul, which only cost around £300 or something. It's a lovely guitar to play for the price range that it's in. I thought that it would give me a bit more range to play rather than just acoustic stuff all the time, plus I wanted to get into the habit of messing around with distortion pedals and all that, so I figured it would be worth it. All three guitars have been wall mounted to save space: They all live in the second bedroom that we have dubbed "the music room". It's about 50% music and 50% belonging to the cats, who come in here to sleep either on the sofa or on their cat bed. Originally, the drum kit was in this room, but the sound caused an issue due to the vibrations going through the floorboards. So, as a result, it had to go in the gym. It's opened the room out though and has made it feel a bit less "full" in there. That kit takes up a fair bit of space. The sofa bed came from Ikea and cost just under £200 IIRC. Really comfy and one of our cats (Aya) loves to sleep on it during the night (or the day time...laaaaaaazy). Ico (other cat) loves to sleep on that biiiig white pillow on the floor. All the other stuff in the photograph are two automatic cat feeders and a water tray (on the left) and some cat toys in the middle of the picture. At my place of work, a friend was decluttering her place and decided that she no longer needed a keyboard. She asked me if I wanted it for free, to which I just said, "...uh, sure." I had no real desire to learn that instrument since it never appeared to me. But, it's there now, so I'm going to learn! It's a bottom of the line Yamaha PSR-73.I started learning how to play in our old flat and quite enjoyed it. But, it wasn't really comfortable due to having to play it on the dining room table and without a proper seat. So, I bought a proper stand and seat for it and that seems to be working out better. At some point, I'll get serious about it and will put the hours in, but it's just finding the time really. I've also got some effects pedals for the guitars: The big one at the bottom is a Boss ME-50B bass effects pedal. Has synth, tone, delay functions and I really enjoy it. I use the delay functions a fair bit. The second biggest one is a Morley Wah Pedal. Orange one is a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal. Red is a Boss Loop Station. The ME-50B and the Morley were bought off one of my friend's ex-boyfriends, just before they broke up. He no longer needed it, so I bought it off him. I really like the ME, although I haven't used the Morley as much yet. The DS-1 is great. Not sure Ine is a particularly big fan of it, though. Think she prefers cleaner sounds. The Loop Station is really fun but getting the timings 100% right takes a fair bit of practice. With work, it can be hard to find the time to just chill out and play. I'm hoping that this year I'll be able to do more of that. I guess it's all about managing your time to fit it all in!
  20. Football Season 2019-20

We've got 8 teams registered for Fantasy Football now. Let's have some more! I'm a bit mixed about Man United going into this new season. One area that I am really happy about is the defence. We look a lot more secure there with Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. I'd love to see a consistent back four of Shaw, Lindelöf, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka, with De Gea in goal. However, it's when you look further ahead that we look so light in midfield and up front. We're badly missing a quality attack and at least 1 central midfielder. I think we'll fall just short this season due to these deficiencies. Maybe only a few points missing out on top 4, but I don't think we quite have enough to secure top 4, let alone challenge for the title. Another worry is that Rashford and Martial are so inconsistent. Asking them to provide most of our goals is a huge risk, imo.
  21. Football Season 2019-20

I can't believe that @Eenuh ended up winning it! She also missed the first week, so it's a pretty cool achievement. She hasn't stopped going on about it! I've made my team and I quite like the initial look of it. Watch all these players let me down now.
  22. Football Season 2019-20

I've emailed @Space as he's the admin/creator of the group. As far as I can see, I can't get the League Code myself. If you were in the league last year, by making a new team it auto-enrols you. That's quite handy. Here's last year's code: 1151543-375779 Give it a go and maybe it'll work. If not, hopefully Space will reply soon!
  23. God of War (PS4)

I've taken some time off the main quest and am just running/boating around doing little quests/jobs here and there. This game is FUCKING AMAZING. It's a proper roast dinner of a game. Delicious.
  24. What Have You Bought?

TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 reverb pedal. I had some Amazon vouchers that came to around £45, so I decided to splash it on this because I wanted a reverb pedal and this seems to fit the bill. Very excited! Should be getting here on Thursday, or hopefully tomorrow!
  25. good stuff thread.

Well done, @Dcubed. I bet it feels amazing to have qualified after years of intense work!
