  1. Well here's a bit of advice because I have been there. Game companies don't give a shit about whether you pass or not, or if you have a degree. They care about your work. Plus Maya and 3DS are the same damn thing. They are 3D packages and both are equally shit or good. If they want to see good quality animation, then use whatever you are more comfortable with. If it's a problem with them, but you have a good quality portfolio, and they have a problem with that? Well fuck them. What matters is, an awesome portfolio.
  2. So you're saying that the more something is on store shelves, the less sick they are of it? That doesn't make much sense. I also like how you mention MW2 because that seems to be the only non-Nintendo game you will get.
  3. Yes but what you don't seem to realise is that this gen especially, there is far too much choice. If someone could only buy 10 games for a single year, and they owned all consoles. The odds are that the only Wii games will probably either be Wii Sports 2, NSMB or something. Unless they have preference over the Wii, but then again let's say that there is no bias, and that they buy the best games across all platforms. But then let's talk about Wii fans. I mention Wii fans, because they will hold preference over Nintendo games. There are probably games on the other platforms that no one else buys and is equally as deserving of praise. To suggest Nintendo fans, or mostly Nintendo fans are like "film nerds" is stupid. The true "film nerd" of gaming are the ones who do not limit themselves to holding preference on one console, but to all platforms.
  4. Tell your Uni to piss off and use what ever you're best at. In the end you're wanting to produce animation, and good quality animation. So use Maya.
  5. Quite a few actually.
  6. Yeah. That does make sense. I was at the Eurogamer Expo yesterday, myself, and when I went there, I did not see a bunch of 15 - 25 year olds all itching to play the HD releases, no. It was full of large families with their elders and children.. Ant and Dec was there too. But what confused me was they weren't playing any of the Wii titles. Rather strange.
  7. This is a slippery slope, and largely a ridiculous thing to say. What you're saying, even if you are "semi" joking, is that Wii fans have very contemporary tastes compared to "core" gamers. Again, comparing the film medium to the games medium is ridiculous unto itself, so let's push that aside. This game has very few people interested for the following reasons: -It is one of the "big" games that Wii fans get excited about, and this will follow it to the ends of the earth. -There are hardly any Wii fans, compared to the large percentage of wii owning casuals. -Unless you visit message boards, or have very good knowledge of the first game, you will not know about this game and might not even care. -It's name does not excite anyone outside of that demographic. Do these things make it comparable to contemporary "cinematic classics"? No.
  8. Maybe people are just tired of seeing Mario? Or Nintendo in general.
  9. To put it short: It doesn't have the "magic" the other Mario games have.
  10. Well that's the thing. A lot of people don't read the reviews. They made it clear that the number is essentially meaningless, and have thought about getting rid altogether. They just keep it in there as per tradition. Remember back in the day when each number actually meant something? 9 = excellent, 10 = revolutionary etc. Now it's just 9 = nine, 10 = ten. You interpret how you want to interpret the numbers, but in the end, the review is there to be read. I myself have read the review for NSMB, and I think the review is very fair. Again, the number means nothing to me, and I just find it ridiculous how people pounce on Edge when they practically slap on a number, when they probably don't think much about it.
  11. I was under the impression that this was a discussion forum, and not a post nice positive things forum. I am contesting a poster who is preaching opinion as fact. What I have posted thus far in this thread falls well within the terms of service. And no, I do not have to say something positive about the game that is currently the topic of discussion. I haven't said anything about it at all, other than a review a magazine wrote about said game, which was part of the discussion. Now stop pestering me.
  12. Said the pastor who preached his word as the truth.
  13. Note that I did not put a 2 at the end.
  14. Ah, a Nintendo Fundamentalist. I haven't seen one for some time.
  15. Seriously, how old are you?
  16. Why bother even looking at reviews? A lot of people would agree about Mario Kart Wii's issues regarding the rubber-banding and complete lack of balance. It's mindless fun in the same way Transformers is mindless fun. By the looks of things, the only magazine you would ever be prepared to trust is an official or unofficial Nintendo Magazine, as they will more than likely give out scores you will be happier with.
  17. In an Edge magazine, 10 isn't a perfect score.
  18. Here's some of my work in progress.
  19. It's very easy really. You can apply now for whatever course they are booking. You either save up money, or take out a career development loan. Each class is max of 12 students. It costs £8,500. Which is a lot yes, but the teaching is absolutely the best.
  20. Escape Studios has an close relationship with most of the VFX and game companies in the country and around the world, which is handy, because they are also a recruitment agency and a whole saler with the companies. Just found out today that a dude from the previous games course (which is what I'm doing) just got a job at Rockstar. So there you go. I just finished Uni, so there you go. Good luck on that!
  21. I am studying at Escape Studios atm. No matter how much I self studied it was pretty damn hard to get anywhere. Just read about Escape to get the jist of what they're about. About poling, poles are sort of like junctions for edge loops. I haven't really gone through the theory of poling. It's sort of difficult to explain. This image highlights all the poles in this model. It's really difficult for me to explain, sorry dude.
  22. But the video does not do this. You are not seeing it in the flesh.
  23. Shouldn't this be Music/Graphics. Everyone here coming up with Audio related stuff is music.
  24. Indeed. Fallout 3 perfectly replicated the post apocalyptic Washington DC of today. Of course. Just yesterday I wacked a zombie with my cricket bat, and his head fell off. And to find that I could do the exact same thing in the game was a big bonus! No cricket bat sadly.
  25. Well glad you're more informed. Trust me, if you come across campers, you will know, and you will hate them. But war FPS games are designed to provide all the thrills of war, if there is such a thing. I have never been in a real war, but I doubt many people would be screaming "owned noob" after blowing someones brains out. Video games are video games and I am sure is nothing like war. For one, there is never any dismemberment in the games. The only thing they have in common is the settings really, and the weapons used.
