It is to me. More than you could imagine.

It could be getting too hot for some random ass reason, or maybe you have some faulty hardware.. you can try running memtest to check all your RAM.. http://www.memtest86.com/ (Download the bootable ISO and burn the image onto a disc, boot from it... but if it does show any errors, that's likely the RAM shot somewhere along the line, and you'd have to take it back to whoever you bought it from to get it checked anyway, assuming it's under warranty). Although first they'll just tell you to reinstall Windows, without a doubt.

In which case you can batter me around the head, because I didn't get your train of thought. Yeah 9800 Pro is good but it's not a HUGE upgrade from a 9600 Pro which he already could put in it. I'd suggest something like a 6600GT if you were going to buy a new card at this point in time.

Yeah I am. You're welcome to call it bullshit, but seriously, you could just have done it on Windows already. Hell you could have done it on Mac OS X already. Linux simply isn't ready for the desktop unless you've got time to waste getting the same results as someone who used less effort with another OS. I don't like to beat around the bush, I like to help people. If you're sure you want to play with Linux, reasearch it well and enjoy your experience, but you really will have to persevere and change the way you think about certain things, which is all good no doubt, but I just like to point people towards the quickest and easiest way to do something.

Wait did you even read the thread, at all?

He's just telling it how it is.

If your new computer has a slot for the 9600 Pro, put it in. The Intel Extreme graphics are the cheapest, nastiest onboard basic graphics you can get. The 9600 Pro is pretty sweet.

Yeah, it will be in the BIOS under "Boot Options" or "Boot Order". You want to make the CD-ROM the first device to boot from. However that's hassles, easier to press the key for the Boot Menu as your system loads, it should say which key it is when it's booting (if you have some shit ass fancy splash screen, press escape or tab to get rid of it temporarily).

Or you know, you could do everything on Windows with the greatest of ease.

Click User CP, Edit Options.. About half way down the page there is a Private Messaging section, check the last box (popup when you have a new Private Message). Then it will popup and tell you've got a PM while you're browsing the forums.

Hahaha, I don't know who you are, but I like you already.

Thank you. It's so handy, it means I don't have to keep switching between programs to see what's going on. I can have 3 things maximised at once and see them all. So I can watch a movie full screen, chat on IRC, and browse the web all at once, etc.. Needless to say, like Jordan, I feel choked if I have to use one monitor. I love being able to spread my stuff out and not have to keep switching between chat windows for example.

Don't forget your friend: http://www.ispreview.co.uk It's how I picked my ISP.

I don't get headaches unless I've seriously taken the piss out of my body and dehydrated it to all hell. Never from TFTs. Well I have 1.12TB of data hashed and shared on DC++, that doesn't include my porn or my backups of stuff, so yeah, I will need more space, but right now it's okay. Also I have a bunch of downloads to sort out, and of course that doesn't include my personal data, which I'm not going to share, naturally.

If someones going to buy the 9800 Pro for £100 straight up and then it's just £90 more for the X800 XT PE, go for it. There's no point even thinking about this.

Thanks, I really like it, the only issue I have is legspace to stretch out.. Apart from that, I have everything in reach, and more screen space than I could ever need

Pics, you want pics? My two servers, bob and zer0, bob below, zer0 on top. 2TB of disk space baby! (They're stuffed behind my desk).. A side on shot of my desk, I know, I know, clear up all the beer bottles (there are more on the floor, and not pictured is my stack of dirty plates elsewhere)... A front on view of my desk with my chair pushed forwards to join the picture: And finally a shot of my machine that I use to control everything, under my desk:

I want to form an Anime company to publish titles in the UK...
RoadKill replied to Android18a's topic in General Chit Chat
I've got 124 episodes of One Piece and 46 of Bleach. I know, bitch at me, I need to complete everything... -
It's an Athlon XP. No Athlon XPs are 64 bit. Don't talk about what you don't know. You are correct about the Radeons lacking Shader Model 3, but you are VERY INCORRECT about it limiting HDR.
-
That's what I thought
-
Damn, you make me feel inadquete. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and I'm not upgrading anytime soon. As for your question, probably a 6800 Ultra or X800 XT. Honestly though, I'd suggest you save up some more pennies and buy a new system, chances are you'll get CPU limited quicker than GPU limited... That is unless you have a really fast machine. What's the spec of the rest of your machine?

Ages ago but he's the awesome.
