  1. I think you have to forget about the old way of playing tennis video games and look forward to the Wii way of playing. The old method was about getting your player in tactically the correct place on the court, selecting the right shot and to a small extent timing the button press to execute the shot. The new Wii method of playing wont be about placing your player on the court, it will be about the physical movement of the racket. Now it can be argued that this wont create a game that has any long lasting appeal but it will show off the remote and be a lot of fun in multiplayer which is the idea of Wii sports.
  2. A good set of positive comments. What I will take from it though is the fact that developers seem to be able to run games at 60fps with little trouble which suggests that Wii games will look very nice from day one. They're never going to match 360/PS3 graphics but they are still going to look gorgeous and allow great games to be great.
  3. The thing is with games like farcry is that they benefit from a higher resolution and seeing as the Wii is only going to be 480p I doubt this game will compare well to other versions of this game. THe wii needs 720p, even if it boosts the price, its worth the extra money.
  4. The comment about Zelda worried me. It sounds like they havent really beefed up the graphics for the Wii version. It sounds like they have put all the effort into make the control method for the wii as good as possible. While this is good news for gameplay and wont matter in the long term the casual gamer will see the wii version looking exactly the same as the GC version which isnt exactly good publicity. With the Wii-makes of GC games it sounds like nintendo have been quite clever with the Wii architecture. I think all the Wii is is a higher spec GC in the same way that a new PC from 2006 is a higher spec than a 2002 PC but if you got a game released in 2002 it would still work on your 2006 PC. What nintendo are allowing developers to do is take the source code for a game cube game, port it to your Wii dev kit, rewrite the control method and then recompile the source to become a Wii game. A relatively pain free short exercise. Whether its a good idea or not for gamers I dont quite know. I can only think of a few games that would really benefit from the new wii control method. As has been said I would rather see a new Luigis mansion created specifically for the Wii than the GC version recompiled with Wii controls. I think nintendo are being very clever with the Wii by allowing it to play gc games directly, older console games via the VC and now recompiled GC games, the Wii will have a huge catalogue of games from the get go. But the games I really want to play are Wii spefic games and it has plenty of those as well. Its win win on the Wii!!!
  5. I'm leaning towards a UK Wii after reading on this thread that its going to be 480p. My only concern is the delay in the release of the console and games. I dont want to have to wait a month or so for the great games after they have been released in the US. If it was multiregion I would definately buy a UK Wii and just buy import games if the difference in release dates was huge. I might just pre order a Wii from Game or Virgin and then if it turns out not to be what I want cancel the pre order and get a US Wii.
  6. Every previous Nintendo console I have owned (apart from handhelds) has been a import machine. This has been due to the usual reasons, UK nintendo poor support, NTSC games etc etc. Bue now I am considering buying a UK Wii. If the release dates of the machines and the games are roughly the same the only reason to by import would be the component 480p issue. If the UK console outputs a 480p signal then I could buy a UK console. Do people think that the UK console will be a match for its NTSC counter part?
  7. I think the postponement of the release dat is due to the release games. They have to have Metroid and zelda at release and I think they are waiting on a final green light from the developers before they set a release date. Personally I think they need to get the machine out in October. A November release would be too close to the PS3 which will dominate the press and shop space in game shops and games departments. A October release allows all the hype to be centered around the Wii, the empty game boxes, console boxes, demo units etc etc. Then when its released the PS3 hype can start. The sooner the Wii hits the market the better. If you have a console available in October for £150 then people will know the PS3 is £425 and maybe, just maybe opt for a Wii. With regards to the worldwide release I feel this is vital, they need every advantage they can get to boost Wii sales, a worldwide launch is good for the press and people dont feel like they are getting short changed. I dont think the logistics would be to hard to handle as the launch wouldnt be on the same mega scale as the 360, a rather more low key approach. I can definitely see Nintendo going for a world wide release of the Wii.
  8. I feel sorry for people who have time to play as many games as you just listed!!! I remember when I was a teenager and I used to play games a lot I used to buy that quantity of games but the price didnt phase me as I was completing the games and therefore getting great value for money. These days I dont get much time to play games. I have 4 games for my 360 and havent completed 1 of them and havent devoted enough time to any of them. I have however spent loads of time on my DS which is my current console of choice. The point I think I'm trying to get at is unless your going to play all these games from start to finish I would limit yourself to a few essential buys. Games like zelda and metroid are going to take a while to complete. Wii sports can be played when zelda becomes too much!
  9. The lack of a Mario Game at launch is worrying. Nintendo have a heritage of releasing brilliant games with their consoles which normally means a Mario Game. You could argue that Zelda is that game and while I agree Zelda will be one of the best games (if not the best) you'll play this year it is a GameCube conversion and will not really show off the Wii. Hopefully Metroid 3 will be amazing and make up for the lack of Mario at release. I'm looking forward to Wii sports, while it might not be a indepth game I think it will be a lot of fun and in 2 player its going to be great.
