  1. Fortnite

I downloaded this yesterday. I'm slowly getting better, I think that's where the fun part is. It was very satisfying going from dying early every match to coming top ten in my last one. Like Daft, I'm not used to the building mechanic yet. I've just been building stairs to get to high places. I don't want to commit to building anything too extensive in case I get snuck upon or if the map starts to shrink. Would love to try the squad mode with anyone on PSN.
  2. Skolas in year 1 was absolutely nuts, by far the hardest activity they ever released in Destiny. What they forgot to mention in that article is that you had to play through 4 rounds of Prison of Elders first before getting to Skolas and there were no checkpoints, so you had to beat the whole thing in one sitting. Dismantle mines, yeeeeesss? Or you die.
  3. Job woes/wins

Our policy is that you can only claim (non-overnight) breakfast if you had to travel or leave home before 6am. I've done this recently when having to get an early flight, my travel receipt showing that I got a 5am (!) taxi proves that I had a legit reason to get breakfast at the airport. To be honest if it's not in policy (assuming you have a well written and established expenses policy) then he really shouldn't have claimed it in the first place.
  4. Destiny 2

I'm inclined to agree. Too much time spent figuring out what you need to do / what the mechanics are, and not enough spent on coming up with strategies or getting slowing better at the execution. The fun part of the blind raids comes from trying to come up with strategies, team roles etc, as opposed to joining a PUG and being told 'this is the strat, just do this without any real understanding'. Having said all that, it's all been very well designed so far and I love the idea of exploring this massive ship. Looking forward to actually finishing the raid, hopefully the rest is as interesting and challenging as the War Beasts encounter.
  5. Destiny 2

Unfortunately I'll be away from Wednesday next week so I'll miss out on the first week of Raiding and new Trials. I'm going to have to bring my Vita on holiday so I can access Xur next Friday!
  6. General TV Thread

Not sure what shows you have or haven't seen, so apologies in advance if my recommendations are rather obvious ones. Off the top of my head... Narcos - for something contemporary. Third season just came out on Netflix. I really enjoyed the first two seasons, would only say that because it is somewhat rooted in reality that the drama and character elements aren't quite as strong as other dramas, but the story is gripping and it is very well produced. The Sopranos - in case you haven't watched it. At its best, it's up there with the best (although in my opinion it starts to fall away around season 5). Deadwood is another solid HBO drama (got cancelled after only a few seasons however). The Pacific - again, in case you haven't watched it (not as good as Band of Brothers though). Haven't watched it, but heard decent things about Westworld. I would highly recommend the UK version of House of Cards, if you like shows about UK politics (speaking of which, I love The Thick of It, another must-watch). Three series of four episodes, no guff or filler like the US version. The lead actor is better than Kevin Spacey in my humble opinion. I also thought season 1 of True Detective was fantastic. Haven't seen season 2 because it was getting duff reviews. You've reminded me that I need to get round to watching This Is England at some point!
  7. Destiny 2

Sorry, we're all console wankers here. I'm jealous of the PC players because of how pretty it is, it's just that we have an established Destiny community on PS4 (at some points we had 2 raid groups going per week). It's too bad there isn't cross save as it would be nice to be able to migrate to PC in the future without having to start from scratch. Getting quite hyped for this now. If it takes the same amount of grind to level up a character as it did in Destiny 1, I'll be focussing on levelling my Titan from launch day to get it raid ready.
  8. Retro Chat Weekly: Super Mario Bros.

I saw the thread title on the home page as "Retro Chat Weekly: Super M..." and jumped straight to the thread all excited thinking it was about Super Metroid. Am disappoint. My first experience of SMB was the Super Mario All-Stars version, so it was overshadowed by 2, 3 and World. It's a great game that stands the test of time, unfortunately it doesn't evoke same the level of nostalgia with me compared to 90s era Nintendo. I regard it very highly from a historical perspective, to me its release is the epoch of modern video gaming. But whenever I need a dose of retro Mario goodness, I default to Super Mario World.
  9. Okay everyone, I think it's about time we set a date for the Summer Meet Up. Let's assume for now that the format will be the same as the last few years, i.e. Friday at mine followed by Saturday at Hyde Park with food and drinks in the evening. Like the last 2 meets, I'm more than willing to host people as long as there's space. I'm typing this on my phone as I'm currently in Bali, so I would be grateful if someone could create the Google doc for people to post their available weekends. I would prefer an August or maybe July date. September and the August bank holiday weekend are nos for me. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Rummy has pointed out that this year will be the 10th London Meet, so let's make it one to remember. Edit by Cube: Spreadsheet here.
  10. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

I think that's a no on both counts! To be honest I gave up on organising a planned meet-up. I've been travelling a lot with work recently and had other priorities to think about. Having said that, I am still free the whole weekend. The offer of beer and bants at mine is still out there... or we go for drinks somewhere. So err... Loading Bar? Saturday? @Rummy @Mr-Paul @Daft @Ashley @Sheikah
  11. Holidays & Travels

I spent 2 weeks in Bali and Kuala Lumpur back in May, I can safely say it was one of the best holidays I've ever been on. I'm actually going back to Indonesia in September, firstly to Jakarta and then onto Bali again. I'll definitely be looking to explore more of South East Asia in the future. Also need to start thinking about my next UK excursion. Last summer, myself and a few friends rented an AirBnB with a hot tub in Snowdonia. We were only there for a long weekend but it was a really cheap and easy holiday.
  12. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

So because of a lack of interest, I think it might be better to just keep it small and London-based. I understand people don't want to pay for train tickets and travel far if there's hardly anyone is going to attend. London peeps, still up for hosting people for an evening of gaming and drinking. Or going out to Loading again like we did a few months ago.
  13. Overwatch

If you don't want to hold R2 all the time, you can change the control scheme to toggle. I've changed my control scheme for Mercy to: Toggle Beam ON Toggle Guardian Angel ON Guardian Angel Prefers Beam Target OFF The last one is really important I find, Guardian Angel is pretty much your only way to escape as Mercy. If you have this as off, you can fly away without having to disconnect your beam of change target.
  14. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

I meant confirmations for the Escape Room! The one I was thinking of is on Caledonian Road, so not very far away from where I live: https://cluequest.co.uk/ I've been before and it was good fun. There are others though that are a bit cheaper. I'm saying 19th is the date, don't really want to change it again now.
  15. Overwatch

Control is my least favourite game type in Overwatch. I do enjoy it but I feel it's not as deep from a tactical perspective than Assault or Escort. Too often it descends into which team can brawl the best in team fights, or who gets the luckiest after ults have been triggered left, right and centre. It can also last ages in competitive where it's best of 5. The only thing that annoys me about overtime is that stalling with Lucio or Tracer is a legitimate tactic and has on a lot of occasions made the difference. Last night for example, we were defending the first point of Hollywood and were doing pretty well, got it to overtime only for us being unable to kill off the enemy Tracer which allowed for their team to come back from spawn and eventually take it (along with their spawn advantage). They then managed to escort the payload to the very end, which is obviously very frustrating when you feel as if they didn't deserve that if could barely manage to capture the first point. On the flip side, it does show how the overtime mechanic keeps things competitive all the way to to end.
  16. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

Would you be able to either day either side of the Saturday? Would be good to catch up, you're the only person here apart from Anil who likes cricket Can I please get some confirmations from people so that I can start booking the Escape Room?
  17. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

Also agree with Charlie - bring Switches so we can get some multiplayer on the go. I'll have my Gamecube stuff as always
  18. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

So if there are no further objections, shall we set the date at 19th August? I'll look into booking the Escape Room for the Saturday as well - please let me know if you are interested so that I can get an idea of the final numbers. As for bars, I do like Loading but it is pain in the arse to get to. We would need to get ubers there and back, and make sure we book tables in advance. I would rather go down Ashley/Rummy's route of finding a good board game pub at a more convenient location where we can all sit down and have a few drinks. Remember we can always get our fill of video games around my place.
  19. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

I agree, a midday activity on Saturday would be a good idea and a welcome change. We could try to organise an Escape Room if people are willing? They're usually quite cheap and don't take very long. There's even one on Caledonian Road. Any other suggestions welcome. One thing I'm always keen on is some good food. I get grouchy if I only have Tesco Meal Deal and cans of lager to sustain myself, so I fancy finding somewhere good in Central London and booking a table for a reasonable time. We got lucky last year when we found tables at Meat Liquor, but I'd rather we plan it better so that we don't miss out on going to Loading for instance. Friday can be the usual of Nintendo/Board/Party games round mine.
  20. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

The other date we could do is 19th August. Definitely won't be able to do the week after as it's my brother's stag. Would prefer to get the date sorted quite soon as I like to take the Friday off work.
  21. Job woes/wins

Got promoted to manager yesterday! Three years of long hours and personal sacrifices have now finally paid off.
  22. New Software!

Really like how responsive the the forum is now, great improvement. The default themes are very white, any chance of introducing some darker shades while maintaining a 'light' theme? Currently it's all very light grey on white. I realise there's now a dark theme (good job on the quick turnaround), but would personally prefer a light theme that's a bit easier on the eyes.
  23. N-Europe Summer Meet 2017

Seeing as there has not been much of a response, I will suggest a date of 12th August. Would be nice to hang out for beers and bants, even if it's just the London peeps.
  24. I'm busy during the day, but should be able to make it in the evening! Will keep you posted.
  25. Actually I think the tech is pretty neat. I realise some people don't like rumble full stop and see it as gimmicky, but I've always been a fan of it and how it's generally used in action games (e.g. haptic feedback for taking damage). I think this is the kind of innovation that Nintendo should be going for when iterating their controller design between console generations. The problem is that, in typical Nintendo fashion, they presented the tech in the most gimmicky way possible.
