Online locking But could still access other countries?

Recommended Posts

hi as i said some time ago was wanting to know about if a USA wii could go online in europe.

since then i heard about all the region locking and dont really get it.

because if it gived you a choice of country at startup and you choose say UK but had a USA wii then you would be able to access europe content like xbox live. However would it then check your console to see which region it is when you download the content then refuse playing it?

Or would it simply come hardwired to the console that its a USA etc and you dont get a choice of changing countrys etc.

Would love some answers as i bought all my gamecube games when i lived in USA and want to get a USA wii but dont want to not be able to go online.

However my xbox360 usa works fine online & i guess for the Wii theres no real way to tell that your accessing the usa servers from europe.

Also please dont say just get a UK one as i will be going back to usa later so theres no point.

any help most welcome please dont want to have to give up my resident evil collection.

I pretty sure that we will just be using the Japanese or American Servers.

I think Nintendo just mean that specific regions will only be able to use there specific regions online features.

i can't see how nintendo will block europeans accessing the online features with a JPN or US machine?

Please learn some grammar and/or spelling.

What does this Wii thing have to do with Resi?! :wtf:

What was so bad about the grammar and spelling? it looked ok to me. And as for the resi collection i think he meens he doesn't want to lose playing on a US wii.

If you can't see anything wrong with that then you need to go to Primary School again.

I still don't get the whole Resi problem...

It's gonna be based on the iTunes model blatantly.

You can use your region, however if you want to use the other region you must have a credit card and home address at that region.

With regard to the points cards.. if you buy $50 iTunes card in the states you can only use it on the states store.

So in theory you could import cards from Japan/America.. then 'switch' store region.. enter the card code and download from that store.

Whether doing so will erase content from your other downloaded regions is tough to say.

But it'll certainly stop average joe playing non region specific games.

It's pretty bad for importers really. Accessing servers across the ocean will really mess up your ping.

I'm sure thats what we do already for all games that don't have a "local" option.
