Dante Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 12, 2011 EA’s highly anticipated ‘Crysis 2’ enters at the top of the All Formats Chart this week with EA’s biggest launch of the year so far. The successful PC gaming franchise from German developer ‘Crytek’ comes to consoles for the first time with Xbox 360 accounting for 57% of ‘Crysis 2’ sales, ahead of PS3 with 29% and PC 14%. LucasArts’ ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars’ is also another new entry, debuting at No2 ahead of last week’s No1 ‘HomeFront’ which drops to No3. It’s a big week for new releases thanks in a large part to the launch of Nintendo’s new 3DS console. 11 out of the 16 new 3DS games launched this week feature in the All Formats Top 40 with 4 represented in the Top 10. ‘Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition’ is the top selling 3DS launch title, a new entry at No4, ahead of ‘PilotWings Resort’ at No6 and ‘Rayman 3D’ at No9, while ‘Lego Star Wars III’ on 3DS features with its other formats. There were 12 new games on 3DS-only while 4 others (Lego, Sims 3, PES 2011 and Madden) all charted alongside their other formats. The other new entry (out of the 6 to make it into the Top 10 this week) is ‘The Sims: Medieval’ which debuts at No8, while Square’s new PSP title ‘Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy’ launches at No24. New 3DS versions mean ‘The Sims 3’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2011’ shoot up the chart, landing at No’s 17 and 18. It is refreshing to see that the Top 6 selling 3DS titles are all from different publishers. Dante Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 13, 2011 EA’s ‘Crysis 2’ (-35%) manages to hold off 505 Games’ popular Latin dancing title ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+3148%) but only just with less than 500 sales between them. EA have now occupied the top spot 6 of the 13 weeks so far this year, thanks to plenty of strong releases. With the Wii version of the game out this week ‘Zumba Fitness’ has shot up the All Formats chart to No2, marking 505 Games’ highest ever entry in the chart (Naughty Bear debuted at No5 and Cooking Mama’s highest position was also No5), which means that LucasArts’ ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars’ (-29%) has been forced down to No3. Next up we have EA and THQ taking it in turns with EA’s 17th iteration of the Need for Speed franchise, ‘Shift 2: Unleashed’, debuting at No4 on the grid, pushing THQ’s ‘Homefront’ (-51%) down to No5. Another long running EA franchise debuting this week is ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters’, which marks the 22nd title in the PGA Tour franchise of which 14 of those are with Tiger Woods, teeing off at No6, again followed by THQ with new entry ‘WWE All Stars’ at No7. EA’s ever popular football simulation ‘FIFA 11’ is up 2 places to No8, giving EA 4 games in the Top 10 this week. Finishing off the Top 10 are two Nintendo titles, both on the DS, with ‘Pokémon White Version’ at No9 and ‘Art Academy’ shooting up the chart from No33 to No10. Sony’s ‘Motorstorm: Apocalypse’ is the only other new entry in the top 40 this week, debuting at No17. Dante Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 14, 2011 ‘Zumba Fitness’ topples ‘Crysis 2’, moving up from No2 to become 505 Games’ first ever All Formats No1 and the first fitness title to reach the top spot since ‘Wii Fit Plus’ back in W49 2009. Sales of ‘Zumba Fitness’ fell by 49% after a highly successful launch on Wii, but sales of Crysis 2 were down by 57% which, in a quiet week for new releases, helped the Wii-centric title’s rise to No1. The hot weather this weekend is perhaps a contributing factor to the heavy drop in sales experienced by most titles, along with customary declines from several new titles in their second week of release. One of these, ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters’ manages to climb 2 places to No4 despite a 32% drop in sales, pitching it behind ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars’ (-45%) which is a non-mover at No3. EA now have 3 games in the Top 5 as ‘Shift 2: Unleashed’ (-45%) only falls one place to No5. THQ are also well positioned with ‘HomeFront’ (-46%) down one place to No6 and ‘WWE All Stars’ (-41%) holding on to No7. ‘Pokemon Black Version’ (-15%) jumps back into the Top 10, up from No13 to No8, overtaking sister title ‘Pokemon White Version’ (-27%) which is a non-mover at No9. ‘Dynasty Warriors 7’ from Tecmo-Koei is this week’s only Top 40 new entry, debuting at No10, while several titles re-enter the chart, boosted by retailer price promotions – most notably ‘BulletStorm’ (+37%) which re-enters at No17. Dante Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 16, 2011 alve’s First Person Puzzle Platform game, ‘Portal 2’, returns this week; materializing at the top of the charts. It has outdone Valve’s ‘The Orange Box’ (it contained the original ‘Portal’ game) which only got to No3 and marks EA’s 5th different title at No1 so far this year. It’s a blast from the past at No2 with Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ hitting this generation’s consoles (the original game came out on consoles way back in 1993). Thanks to price promotions Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ (+245%) resurges up the chart from No9 to No3 which means that last week’s No1 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+10%) is now resting at No4. Also forced down the chart is ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clones Wars’ (+16%) from LucasArts now at No5, followed by Codemasters’ new entry ‘Operation Flashpoint: Red River’ at No6. EA hold both No7 and No8 with ‘FIFA 11’ (+39%) and ‘Crysis 2’ (-2%). Next we have Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+97%) back in the Top 10 at No9 and THQ’s ‘Homefront’ (-1%) at No10. The only other new entry in the Top 40 this week is Sony’s ‘SOCOM: Special Forces’ in at No 28. Gamers celebrated by keeping the previous week’s new No1 & No2 exactly where they were, with Valve/EA’s ‘Portal 2’ (-51%) on top for a second consecutive week since launch and Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ (-42%) remaining at No2. 505 Games climb one place to No3 with ‘Zumba Fitness’ ( -21%) as the PS3 version debuts this week, five weeks after the launch of the hugely popular Wii version – the PS3 version has not lit up the market in the same way with 10% of sales across the 3 formats. Codemasters’ new entry from last week ‘Operation Flashpoint: Red River’ (-21%) moves in the right direction, up 2 places to No4. Sega chose this week to launch two new titles – ‘Virtua Tennis 4’ on PS3/360/Wii is new at No23 but ‘Thor: God of Thunder’ fails to make an impact on the Top 40. Also new this week and debuting at No2 is Disney Interactive Studios’ multi-format ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ drops one place to No5 (-19%) followed at No6 by Warner Bros. Interactive and ‘Mortal Kombat’ (-39%) down 3 places from No3. The only other new entry is THQ’s ‘MX vs ATV Alive’ for 360/PS3 (developed by THQ Digital Studios Phoenix, USA) and debuts at No10: two-thirds of the sales are for the Xbox 360 version. Dante Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 20, 2011 It’s no mystery as to what is No1 this week, as Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘L.A. Noire’ debuts at the top of the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest-selling new video game IP ever in the UK. Sales are on a par with the launch of Rockstar’s previous chart topper ‘Red Dead Redemption’ which was released exactly a year ago. Both titles were launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 with Red Dead Redemption showing a 65% Xbox 360 and 35% PS3 split, compared to L.A. Noire’s share of 58% on Xbox 360 and 42% on PS3. L.A. Noire positions itself as the 13th fastest-selling Xbox 360 game in the UK and the 11th fastest on PS3. Disney’s ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-6%) holds on to No2 as last week’s No1, ‘Brink’ (-48%) slips to No3. Sales of ‘Zumba Fitness’ (-6%) remain relatively stable, as it makes way for L.A. Noire by only dropping one place to No4. Namco Bandai’s ‘The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’ on PC is the only other new entry to break into the All Formats Chart this week, entering at a very respectable No5 – outselling the original title’s launch week sales by more than 3 to 1. Price promotion on ‘Crysis 2’ (+71%) sees it jump from No9 to No6, while EA’s other sequel ‘Portal 2’ (-22%) moves in the opposite direction, down from No4 to No7. EA’s 3rd Top 10 title this week, ‘FIFA 11’ (+17%) stays put at No8, having only spent one week outside the Top 10 since it was launched 34 weeks ago. ‘Mortal Kombat’ (-22%) hangs on to a Top 10 position despite slipping from No6 to No9, while ‘Black Ops’ (-35%) also clings on to the Top 10, down from No5 to No10. The launch of a new Wii value hardware bundle with Mario Kart sees the Nintendo classic motor back into the Top 40 at No23 (+266%). Week 20, 2011 - Individual Formats (Units) 01 (__) 360 L.a.
