Calza
I got a new 300GB external hardrive yesterday, transferred all my music and pictures pretty quickly (not got that much) but when it came to my videos it took ages and had to leave it on all night. It seems the problem was that i had plugged it in to 1.1 USB Port but all my USB ports are supposed to be 2.0. I tried all 5 ports but I keep getting the same message about it would wwork faster if plugged into a 2.0 plug. I click on it and it shows all the ports but says at the top no high speed USB 2.0 installed. I've looked at the manual and it definately states 5 2.0 so i'm really confused on whats going on? Any ideas?
Bogbas
Is service pack 2 installed? If I remember correctly USB 2.0 needs an update to work in winxp. It can be downloaded separately, but sp2 is the easier way to get it. So if it isn't turn on the automatic updates. They'll work even if you have a "special"- copy of XP. Calza
Yep got SP2 and Automatic Updates has been on. How did you know I had a special copy?

Just said that the automatic updates works even with those. Anyway check the motherboards drivers&utilities cd if there's something there. And then try the mobo manufacturer's website. Calza
Is there anywhere to download the USB 2.0 update apart from Windows Update?
Bogbas
Well it comes with the SP2 so there shouldn't be a need to dl it separately. Update the motherboards chipset drivers etc.
