dabookerman Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 Why the heck would you put a secondary graphics card into an old PCI slot? Have I missed something here? they arent crossfire if thats what u mean
Jon Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 they arent crossfire if thats what u mean I think he means, why would you put a gpu in a pci slot when there is a spare pci x8 slot waiting to be used.
dabookerman Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 I think he means, why would you put a gpu in a pci slot when there is a spare pci x8 slot waiting to be used. ahh i understand... so your telling me that both x1900 aiw and the x1300 pro will both fit them slots.
Jon Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 ahh i understand... so your telling me that both x1900 aiw and the x1300 pro will both fit them slots. I would assume so, I havent looked at the x1300 series before, but im assuming it needs a pci-e slot.
Bogbas Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Yes that would be probably better to have the another card as pci-e as well. That way you don't have to worry so much about the cooling as there's more room between the cards. And you'll have one pci slot free for future upgrades.
Raining_again Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Why not get a SLI one like teh A8n-sli deluxe mobo if you want two gpus - its one hell of a motherboard!
Jon Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 If you have money to burn.....why not go SLi in a notebook!
dabookerman Posted February 17, 2006 Author Posted February 17, 2006 personaly i wouldnt mind, but does it matter IT having a nvidia chipset and me wanting a radeon gpu? can someone find me a review of both mobos?
Bogbas Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Well it doesn't matter what chipset it has. Using the nvidia one just means that you can't use crossfire. And here's reviews: Nvidia's mobos Asus A8R-MVP (Ati) And here's an updated model of the a8r-mvp a8r32-mvp
Jon Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 It doesnt matter that your using an nvidia based mobo, you can still use an ATi card and vice versa.
dabookerman Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 ok i have decided to go for the ati model, as it wouldnt make sense for getting ati graphics card on an sli mobo. how about that
Jon Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 ok i have decided to go for the ati model, as it wouldnt make sense for getting ati graphics card on an sli mobo.how about that It would make perfet sense actually. Unless you are going to be using crossfire, you might as well go for a mobo with the best chipset. At the moment that is argubaly nvidia.

At the moment that is argubaly nvidia. Oh I've got the impression that the new ati chipset is better than nforce... And yes it's a bit hard to decide, because if you're not using crossfire in the first place it will be hard to find the crossfire cards in the future.

But it's usb and firewire performance is still not at the nvidia level. You really need to decide if you are going to be usning multi gpu's or not

I was just looking at the game performance benchmarks in games for those boards.
David.K.T.Bates Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 my philosophy is that u can never have too much of something If use that much ram, then your MAR will not be able to address all of the memory, meaning that your processor will over heat. The most you will need is 2Gb.
wavedash Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 uhhh......isnt the x1900 a dual slot card? tha x1800 was. also in some mag they showed that there was a decrease in performance (only a bit) with 2G of RAM over 1G, but it doesnt really matter much.

dabookerman Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 the top one is all in wonder (european version aswell) just a comparison that the one i want wont need 2 slots
Bogbas Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Yeah the aiw is underclocked a bit from the x1900 and doesn't need as much cooling power.
dabookerman Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 im just wondering when the european ones coming out
Jon Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 im just wondering when the european ones coming out Supposedly this month. Make sure you have a big enough case for it as it is a very long card, much longer than any other.
dabookerman Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Supposedly this month. Make sure you have a big enough case for it as it is a very long card, much longer than any other. ahh that pretty much sorted
dabookerman Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 ok sorry for bumping. but so far i got: case monitor cpu mobo (a8r-mvp - very happy with it) now i need a psu to replace the one included with the case, now it needs to be over 450 watts. i was thinking of this one http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=17047661663&action=c2VsZWN0X3Byb2R1Y3Rfb3ZlcnZpZXc=&product_uid=98566 if anyone has any suggestions please tell. altho i dont want to spend more then...£50-60 lets say. my bank has suffered tremendously as it goes oh, and misco have the x1900 aiw for £340. no other shop has it, if no other one have it in 3 weeks, i will have to buy it off them
