Neogaf user "CBOAT" (crazy buttocks on a train) recently posted a thread highlighting a confidential PowerPoint presentation from Valve showing off the company's next-gen Source 2 engine using an updated Left 4 Dead 2 prototype. While we regularly don't post about idle speculation or rumours, CBOAT is well known for leaking confidential information to the public, and we believe it is very possible this presentation and the screenshots contained within it are official and are worth consideration.

Note that the hl3 folder doesn't necessarily count as confirmation that the game is in development:

I wonder if players playing with Source & Surce 2 will be able to play with each other in a game like L4D2.

I don't think you can play games on two completely different engines, even if one is an upgrade of the other. There are too many changes in the maps, hit boxes, code, etc.

In before "Half-Life 3 confirmed...." :heh:

Seriously though, if the sources (no pun intended) are as reliable as these leakers claim, then this is very exciting news indeed. Plus the word is that the presentation actually dates back to 2011, so the engine could have easily been improved dramatically by now! It'd explain what they've been doing this whole time, besides the Steam Machine/SteamOS/controller thing.

It'd also explain why they haven't bothered to sort out the current Source SDK, although that's still no excuse, really.

It pretty much is Left 4 Dead 3, but the common joke is "HL3 confirmed" when it comes to anything Valve related. It's getting a bit old now.

Although the documents are said to be almost 3 years old, so who knows what Valve have in store?
