Non-iPod mp3 players

So my iPod touch seems to finally be giving up the ghost.

 

I know I can use my phone but I prefer two separate devices (for battery life if nothing else).

 

Fancy something new but I'm not really sure what's out there. Considering an Android-based mp3 player but truth be told I don't really need it to do anything complicated now that I have my phone (got my iPod in pre-smartphone days).

 

Or I may just use HMV's trade in offer to get a new Touch for £100 and hope it passes their "5 second test" without them noticing...

 

Anyway, suggestions/recommendations. Space wise 16GB should be fine as I'm not using more than that.

 

I know this is kind of vague.

 

Or maybe something cheap that can run Spotify?
