Charlie Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 At work we're looking to modify an existing NAS so that it can store files, they can be edited and do everything you normally would with them APART from save them to a different location. Is this possible? I've Googled and couldn't find anything on it. All the computers in the office are Macs but occasionally a Windows laptop is brought in. All can currently connect to the NAS and edit/modify/remove/whatever with all the files.
Shorty Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 You can prevent creation and deletion within folders with advanced group permissions in the properties in Windows, but that's about all I know.
Charlie Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Files are OK to be created, I just want them to be tied to a certain NAS and unreadable on any other device... Can you attach permissions to a file in a way similar to a way you can restrict only certain computers going on a network through that long code (D0:23:DB:XX:xx:99 - can't for the life of me remember what that number is called, unique to every network device)? I'm sure large organisations must have a way so that employees can't steal files and folders from their servers...
