drahkon Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) Where do I start? I have this: LCD TV, Onkyo 507 AV Receiver, PS2, Wii. I want this: LCD TV shows: PS2 (or Wii respectively). I have a problem: The receiver is connected to the TV via HMDI, but when connecting my PS2 (or Wii) with an RGB cable I won't get a picture when choosing HDMI-Out (I hope you know what I mean). So I need to use an RGB cable to connect my TV with my receiver and the PS2 (Wii, blah) need to be connected to the receiver as well. So far so good. Now I want to change the RGB cables with component cables (for better sound and picture). That means: I need a component cable to connect my TV with the receiver. The problem: This (sorry, German only) is what I can find. A YUV cable. Is it the same as a component cable? And will I be able to use this in order to get a clear picture and sound. Another thing I wanna ask: The TV is connected to the receiver via an optical audio cable. When I connect my PS2 (Wii >.>) in the way I described, will this get me surround sound? Or is this all bollocks and I can connect the PS2 or Wii directly with the TV and the sound is coming from the receiver and optical cable? Edited May 18, 2010 by drahkon
McPhee Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 YUV does seem to be the German name for component. It goes by another name, Y Pb Pr, and a search for that on Amazon returns loads of YUV "Komponenten" cables. You don't need the audio though, as the recivier is just passing video. http://www.amazon.de/Home-Theater-HT-400-150-YUV-Komponenten-Kabel/dp/B0013K7FX6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1274201319&sr=1-1 As for surround sound, I'm not sure that Component does surround? Audio is carried over standard stereo RCA cables and I always thought that the only ways to get multichannel sound were through multichannel RCA, optical, coax and HDMI?
Emasher Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 The Wii cannot do true surround sound, only Pro Logic 2, so you're fine hooking that up through the regular RCA audio cables (Red and White). The PS2 can however, and has an optical port on it, so your best bet would be to use that to hook up the PS2.
