hi help me bring my old laptop back to life

Recommended Posts

hi

so while i wait for my macbook to be repaired, i decided i could try and fix my old Advent 7108 laptop in the mean time. i just want to start it from scratch. reformat the whole thing. it doesnt work anyways, let me tell you what happens:

1. turn it on, takes about a minute to get to the WINDOWS XP screen

2. after the XP screen, i get a blue screen. "Please wait while Windows prepares to start.....". this goes on for about 1 minute.

3. black screen with cursor, and a popup appears. it says the application (lsass.exe) failed to initialize properly. click ok to terminate this application.

4. i click ok, black screen. nothing happens. the end

before all of this, i tried doing a system recovery with the recovery files disk, but some other application ended up missing so that failed.

i'm currently re-downloading a windows XP SP3 ISO, and just want to know what i do. how do i completly wipe this bitch clean and start again. can i even do so?

it's no biggie if i cant do anything about it, it would just be handy i guess to have a spare (windows) laptop if ever i need one.

thank you

wow...that was a thousand times easier than i expected it to be. i've had a busted computer sitting around for 3 years when it was *that* simple to fix it?

anyway thanks a bunch man

alright now onto step 2... getting the internet to work

i tried connecting using ethernet, but i still couldnt get on the internet. under Device Manager, there is "Ethernet Controller" with a yellow question mark and it tells me the drivers for the device aren't installed.

im guessing this is the problem? what drivers do i need to get, and where do i find them?

i did a google but only found people linking to http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads but i don't know what i need to download?

there is also this: http://support.thetechguys.com/layout.aspx?ID={e138e30e-92a4-4215-8165-2d176ee989da}&CatID={27aeb102-61a7-48e3-bc5d-5160ea1858e0}

but it doesnt seem to have the ethernet driver

oh and here are the specs for the computer if needed: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/7108.htm
