I was attempting to play Guitar Hero World tour today (Wii Version), and the strummer on the guitar peripheral seems to not be working anymore. It works if you press it up, but only about %10 of the time when you press it down. I'm guessing my options at this point are to:

Contact Activision (Its no longer under warranty)

Attempt to fix it myself (Its probably just a dirty contact)

Buy a new one

Any advice.

I've got the same problem, bought it off eBay so don't have a receipt for the thing so sending it back is unfortunately not an option. Would it be worth getting the screwdriver if there's anything I can do to fix it?

You might as well try all 3, in that order. If they won't repair for free/decent price, try repairing it, if you fail buy a new one.

There are multiple guides online for this as it's quite a common thing. Activision were doing replacements for all band items at one point, yet due to abuse it was swiftly stopped.

I found out what the part that wasn't working was, and I've found a place I can get a replacement part for a few dollars. So I'll just fix it myself, much easier to do than call activision and pay them significantly more than I would for the part. The Guitars aren't that complex inside at all.

Care to elaborate for me?

The strummer basically has 2 switches in it that are similar to the ones that you might find under the buttons of a mouse. These are the most easily broken parts of the guitar peripherals (The GHIII ones are a bit different apparently though). You need to replace the switches by de-soldering them from a circuit board and re-soldering new ones in place.

Here's the guide I found:
