Pete Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) Yes! about time, for sonys flagship hand held machine the games have been pathetic (too few AAA games) (well not to my taste anyway) - good games a have been too far apart - This is the 1st 3D fighter since Tekken DR on a machine built to play the portably, so Im looking forward to this, little big planet as well. At last some new decient IP's. Edited May 2, 2009 by Pete
Choze Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48868.html I have a feeling this will be much nicer than SC4. Even has a CG intro this time!
Choze Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Kratos confirmed as guest character. This e3 is insane Sony wise.
Daft Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Visually this game just looks amazing. I'm not sure how they are doing it.

But looks pretty darn awesome...just can't believe they've managed these results on a handheld.

flameboy Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Shit is it out tomorrow this has come up fast...I may have to get it Soul Calibur is the only fighter I can remotely compete at... I'm going to a charity auction ball tomorrow if I don't win anything or spend too much on booze might pick it up.
Daft Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 If I decided to get a PSP Go, I'll pick this up.
Choze Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Got it. Its amazing. Its basically SC4 with some extras so far. Music comes from all the SC's from SC1 to SC4. The graphics and animation are astounding, in some places its nicer than SC4. Its also constant 60fps. Dont know whats there to unlock. But there is one new French dagger character.
flameboy Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I think I'm gonna have to get this, love the series...Can't resist got £13 on my GAME reward card may just have to spend it on this beauty.
Choze Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I think I'm gonna have to get this, love the series...Can't resist got £13 on my GAME reward card may just have to spend it on this beauty. Its £17 on amazon
flameboy Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Its £17 on amazon well only ended up paying £12.49 once my GAME points were taken off... I love Soul Calibur like I said its the only series that I am truly good enough at to compete online. Also along with Mortal Kombat the only fighter I've stuck with through different iterations. I own SC, SC2, SCIV. Less said about Legends the better (also isn't 3 meant to have huge balancing issues?!) Anyway my views on the game...Its alright! Well better than alright. If you have played any of the other games in the series you will know what to expect. I think the main single player mode Gauntlet lacks in many ways. SCIV was disappointing with the towers system. Why can't we have a return of SCII's map based adventure mode. Even the originals single player was great. Love the Quick Match system which rather than just matching two players together replicates an online lobby and lets you pick players with bizzare ID's and then fight it tracks all your records as if they were online stats. Does make me wanna get back into playing Soul Calibur IV online though. Bizarrely there is no normal arcade mode instead the other game mode is trials which works in a similar way. You just keep fighting until you lose and get a score based on that. There are a variety of options difficulty wise. Kratos is great and really good fit within the game. All his moves from the GoW series are present and correct and his banter before each fighter is keeping in with his mood and demeanor from the popular Sony franchise. He is easy to use and made fluid combos can be unleashed with relative ease. If anything is the Link of this game with great close range as well as ranged attacks and a simple hard hitting move set that makes him an ideal choice for beginners. However this does cause slight balancing issues as like Link some of his moves can be spammed. I'm sorry Choze but as gorgeous as it looks it doesn't look better than SCIV at any point. Yes it looks fantastic for a handheld and if this is a sign of things to come from this new emphasis on big hitters coming to the PSP then fantastic we have a lot to look forward to with the likes of Motorstorm, LBP etc...coming in the near future. It obviously lacks that HD sheen to it though and it is telling, but your not going to be expecting that kind of experience. If you are then pick it up on one of the HD consoles instead. I'm not completely sure if its a worthwhile purchase if you own other games in the series. I mean I play most of my gaming at home so I could just as easily pop my PS3 and play it on there. If however you play more gaming on the move I can't recommend it high enough..Fans of the series will likely already own it.

Regarding the graphics i felt the PSP game has more wow factor to it not necessarily better looking. Its abit more colourful in places and it looks nice and sharp. Gameplay wise it has afew balances and improvements over SC4. Supposedly the 8 way run is abit quicker and some characters have been nerfed or improved. Frame data etc. is abit complicated so i wont get into that. We can do online via PS3 right? Want to play?

Via Japanese ad-hoc party do you mean? I've not got it downloaded, think also it only works if your PS3 is running off a wired connection mine is off wireless, but we can always try it tonight, get in from work at about 5ish. I hate the gauntlet mode, am stuck on one of the techniques its trying to teach me can't remember which one, its not something I ever do as part of my playing so I don't care! Love the game though really need to put some more time in, only played a couple of hours because been spliting my time between this Ninja Gaiden DS and 100%ing Batman Arkham Asylum.
