Laptop doesn't recognise DVD drive

Recommended Posts

Over the past day or so my laptop has been failing to recognise my DVD drive. It shows up in the Device Manager, but does not show up correctly in My Computer, showing up as F:\ rather than E:\. When I insert DVD's I can hear the drive working, but nothing shows up on screen.

I have tried updating the driver, but that hasn't worked as yet, Windows just tells me that the driver is already up to date.

I dropped my laptop about 10 days ago, but I was able to use the drive up until a couple of days ago, so I don't think any connections are broken, either way I don't have the tools to open up my laptop.

Can anybody help? I have films to watch and essays to write.

Thanks.

Have you tried restoring the system, to before it stopped working?

It may be a loose connection which over time has become more and more loose.

Do you keep your laptop in the sleep mode which saves and restores your session the next time you turn it on? That stops my SD card drive from working, so try restarting your computer.

All sorted now. Got hold of the correct screwdriver and opened it up and it had slipped slightly out of its holding. Slipped it back into place and works perfectly.

Thanks for the help.
