Need help quickly extracting deleted data from a laptop.

I was recently given the job of recovering deleted data after an HDD was reformatted due to a rather nasty virus. However, since the HDD is in a laptop, I can't go and take it out to use on my PC. Note, all the software I've found requires that the software isn't installed on the HDD you want data extracting from.

 

How can I get round this problem?

You can take a HDD out of a laptop... then you can connect it to a PC with a 2.5" adaptor or using a USB enclosure. Or you could transfer the data to an external drive? What method are you going to use to recover data from a formatted HDD anyway?

I'm using a program called Runtime GetDataBack to recover the data.

 

I'll follow your advice on the adaptor thingy. Thanks a lot.
