Tellyn Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Anyone seen the title sequence yet? They don't actually use "Another Way To Die", it's a new song called "When Nobody Loves You". I quite like it.
Noku Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 What about controller options? Pointer modifications? Unlockables? Local multiplayer bots? Und yeah, When nobody loves you is music to me ears.
... Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 What about controller options? You can see some of those in that 10 minute You Tube video posted some pages back. At some point you see the player changing sensitivity to "advanced". And you can see a couple more options. Just watch that video.
Rob3008 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Is there an opion for bots in the multiplayer?
Noku Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Did watch the video, multiple times. In fact, I posted a reaction to it on the last page My question was directed at Zechs, in the hope that he share some more in-depth particularities of the game.
welsh_gamer Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Been playing this today. It's quite a depressing game Framerate is quite bad, and for the majority of the game the graphics are PSone quality (think The World is Not Enough on PSone), but there are certain scenario's where there's good lightning. There's hardly any challenge to the game, but the frustrating controls and odd cheating AI moment means it is possible to get the blood dripping down the screen a few times. There isn't much variety like there was in EA's Bond game's either, apart from the odd hand to hand combat section where you just point your cursor at a random point on your enemy and push 'A' which feels very childish. The story isn't represented well either, as once we get to the end of a stage, we rarely get to see a FMV/game footage of what's meant to happen, but are just "treated" to some computer interface style screens telling us what happened. A real disappointment. Online is not bad, but if you've played the online modes in MOH:Heroes 2 like myself, there isn't much point in playing this online after a few matches.

I can always detect the unworthy games.
welsh_gamer Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 I only paid £24 for it thanks to a combination of 10% vouchers that worked at TheHut, and I'm sure I'll get my money back when I'll sell it on eBay/Amazon in the next few days. I just had to buy it as I'm a huge Bond fan. Just glad that I didn't keep it for Christmas as I had originally intended to do
Zechs Merquise Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Well I've got the game too, and I don;t think it's anywhere near that bad. As I said, you can see sections of it on Youtube, and it ain't all bad. I would also say that the AI of the enemies is quite good, they flank you and generally act quite well, never just stand around or pop up waiting for a bullet. Also, the difficulty is hard on the hardest setting.
Shaggy Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Hey gang, I also have this game. Do to my buddy's comments I picked this one up. And yeah its not all that bad! Honselty I think it is the best James Bond translation since Golden Eye, Game Cube EA version where rubbish! After checking out the Xbox Turn Around version you can tell the Wii version was not a build from the ground up. That would explain the Convert to Wii button Water look... If you like Golden Eye multi player then you might want to pick up Quantum of Solace. They even have a Facility remix level from Golden Eye : peace:
Zechs Merquise Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 My Review of Quantum of Solace: I was really looking forward to this game - after all it's a Bond game, and I must have spent the best part of my sixth form years playing Goldeneye and perfecting my headshots and sneaking skills until I was truly a 007 standard agent. So the prospect of a new Bond game which comprises two films and contains an innovative FPS view with a 3rd person cover system set my heart racing. What's more it is a modern military game based on the COD4 engine. But does Bond hit the mark? Happily I would say 'YES' - most of the time! The core gameplay is solid and a lot of fun. As Bond you are thrown into a number of different missions, some which are all out gun fights, some which require stealth and cunning and a couple which try to emulate famous 'running' scenes from Casino Royale. The controls are spot on, well initially they're not. At first I found the standard settings to be a little sluggish and unresponsive. However there are three levels of sensitivity plus a control customisation mode that allows you to manually tweak the controls to your liking, after increasing the turning speed to the max and adjusting the sensitivity of the curser I was much more at home and was blasting henchmen with relative ease - and most of all enjoying it! I can also report that other controls work well too. No silly Wii-remote actions for simple things like zooming in. Bringing up your scope or iron sights is handled by pressing the Z button and zooming in and out on scoped weapons is handled by moving the stick in and out. It works well and thankfully does not try to emulate the ridiculous 'Ubisoft way' of thrusting the Wii-remote forward. As you move around the game you'll notice plenty of places to hide - and this is where the game's cover system comes in. You simply tap 'A' to go into cover when you are near a wall or crate etc. and you dip behind the object shielding you from enemy fire. You can then pop up by pressing 'Z' and shoot or simply peak your gun around the wall and fire (which is less accurate but much safer). The only problem with the cover system is that the 'A' button also makes you run as well as dip into cover, so occasionally whilst running you'll attach yourself to a wall. It's annoying but doesn't happen all that often. The difficulty is markedly different depending on the level you choose and there are four settings. If you play on Field Agent the difference in the way you play is marked from when you play on 007. On lower difficulties a lot of the game can be done from the traditional 1st person perspective, using cover more sparingly, however on 007 you'll be forced to use cover and inch forward in firefights. The AI is good too. Enemies will not stand around as their friends die and wait for a sniper shot. Henchmen will shout orders and updates to fellow guards, they will flank you and will use cover straight away. They also don't just pop up like a shooting gallery but peak their guns around the edges and are very accurate on higher difficulty settings. Occasionally the AI will play up, but again it's a small thing. One of my major gripes with the game is that on the higher difficulties it often comes down to a sheer battle with the game and repeatedly doing a task as the damage you take from a couple of hits will be fatal. So you might just pop up once will full health and die. One particularly irritating level is when you have to chase the bomber through a shanty town, the end of that is horrible on the 007 setting and far more frustrating than fun. I felt with the difficultly they should have done more on higher settings than just increase enemy accuracy and not have made Bond feel as frail as an old lady. The graphics on the most part are good and run at a reasonably solid 30 framer per second. However that will drop occasionally and some levels are worse than others - most notably the Opera house level. However the best levels (not just in terms of framerate) like the Casino one run smoothly and there's a lot of fun to be had. The enemies animate well and the some levels look great, others however lack polish and feel a bit like they could have done with an extra month or so development time. Notably water doesn't look great and explosions can range from fiery to looking like a box of wet fireworks have just fizzled out. So again a mixed bag on the effects. The guns however all look great and feel right and some of the level geometry is great - especially in the Science centre and the Venice shoot out is wonderful! The online multiplayer is solid. It's not ground breaking by any means, but it's there, which is nice. It's four player and can be played over 7 maps. It has Mii inclusion and is done on a relative points system like Mario Kart (which I love). You get to choose from different character classes all with different weapons and abilities, which are usually a play off between weak and speedy and short ranged but fast firing weapons and long ranged but single shot rifles. All in all good stuff. My only niggles with the online is that it should have been 8 player as the team based games don't really work so well with teams of just 2 and there is an objective based game but no capture the flag - which is my favorite mode in online FPS games. The good news though is that it is smooth and there is no lag and very little (if any) slowdown and you never wait more than a few seconds for a game. Whilst it's not going to take Medal of Honor's crown - it's definitely fun and is a real kick up the arse to developers who think the Wii doesn't deserve online modes. The online and the 4 difficulty levels which force you to play differently will definitely keep you playing this for a while - if you can be bothered to do the harder difficulty levels that is! Plus there's the 4 player split screen which I haven't played yet but I'm sure will be great for anyone who is having a night in with mates. Oh and did I not mention - it includes the Facility from Goldneye? Enough said! FINAL COMMENT Quantum of Solace is a fun little game which controls well and does most things right. However it feels like it could have been so much more. Don't get me wrong I have really enjoyed playing it in places but it leaves me feeling that with a little more time and a little more polish it could have been even better. The single player campaign could have done with a little more time on the graphical effects and a smoothing of the frame rate in places. Also the higher difficulty could have been more balanced. The online multiplayer is a welcome inclusion - but again could have done with four more players and a capture the flag mode. But overall it's a solid package that Bond fans and FPS nuts will get some thrills out of whilst they wait for The Conduit! OVERALL: 7.9 out of 10
Ren of Heavens Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Worst game I've played on Wii so far. I found Red Steel pretty mediocre. This is even worse. Not only is the graphics pretty bad, the framerate makes it sometimes close to unplayable. I'm no huge Bond fan though.
Shaggy Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Not sure what is up with this Frame rate, but I have not seen any issue in the frame rate on my system. Dude Red Steel sucked Monkey balls!
