Sanchez Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I was adding a new hard drive to my file server today and now the computer won't boot. Or well it does but very slowly. All is well until the end of the Windows XP loading bar page disappears, then there's a long pause with nothing but darkness for about 5-10 minutes and the fullscreen blue "Starting Up..." message appears and so far it hasn't moved from there. I might have to go for reinstalling windows but i'd prefer to do some less drastic solutions first, any ideas?
Raining_again Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Have you made sure the hard drive is in slave mode? Have you tried it without the new harddrive?
Sanchez Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Ok I think I worked out the problem. It finally booted and one of the hard drives is giving an I/O error and not responding which I think could be the cause of the delay. Possibly the very same hard drive which i accidentally let slip when i was moving hard drive cages around. Thankfully it's the hard drive with the least valuable content.
