thunderer Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Ok. So like a lot of people; I need a PC for uni! I'm building my own because... well i'm quite into PC gaming and have wanted to for a while. Basically i'm pretty sure i'm capable of the actual build, i've done various I.T repairs and a BTEC IT course at college. Only problem is, well, i'm a bit paranoid that i've got some components that won't work together e.t.c. I've got a list and links to components below and was wondering if any of you n-europers out there wouldn't mind checking over the stuff for me and letting me know if i've got it right. I'm not sure if i'll need a bigger PSU or if i should go for 3/4Gb or RAM rather than 2Gb e.t.c. Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated! If anything needs changing then some suggestions would also be awesome, my budget is well... about £700 tops, the cost is at about £660 at the moment if i remember right. Thanks! Sanchez Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Get western digital or seagate instead of hitatchi and I would also get a brand other than Corsair for RAM these days but its still a matter of preference. 2GB will do you fine still, you can always add another gig later if you really think you need it. This is a better power supply: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4B0M&CategorySelectedId=11259&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11259 Oh also this graphics card is better and not much more: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=54V1&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=4850&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0 Otherwise the components will work together fine. Also see if you can build that on Ebuyer for cheaper if you haven't already.
thunderer Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Cheers, thanks for the help. Shall have a look at ebuyer. Had heard of it but not really had a look there!
Sanchez Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 In my substantial experience, they usually have the best prices on the whole, so it's worth taking a look.
DCK Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 You're better off buying a Radeon 4850 for your graphics card, for two reasons: - It's way faster than the 8800GT, it's almost as fast as a 9800GTX - Your motherboard doesn't support SLI, but does support CrossFire, so you can expand it better later by just adding another card It's a few quid more, but you won't come close to exceeding your budget. It's really worth the money For the rest, it's a great setup. Hold on, it's only 3 pounds more expensive in the same store.
Guest Jordan Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 You're better off buying a Radeon 4850 for your graphics card, Totally agree... Better yet, wait and get the 4850 x2...
