Strange Cookie Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I've been noticing an odd trend lately in my local stores. That's Belgium, for the record. For some reason, games that were/are considered niche, like e.g. Harvest Moon or Fire Emblem, are available in almost very store by the bucketloads. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful thing these games get the shelfspace they deserve, but I've noticed there are other games, like e.g. No More Heroes or HotD that are difficult, to even nigh-on impossible to get your hand on. Granted, those last too are a bit violent, but still. I've got the impression some games, perfectely normal, respecable and popular games, simply aren't being sold in a lot of stores. For example, in my city there are seven gamestores. Only two sold NMH around launch date, and only one continues to do so now. Those games sell very well in the stores that do sell it, so it's rather odd. Ofcourse there are stores that sell them, but just a few. Mostly specialised gamestores. Is there a distribution problem going on or something? Has anyone noticed something simular, or is it just my paranoia kicking in again?
Guest Maase Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Ahahah, you're very lucky already. Here in Portugal is not hard to find games for Nintendo Wii... its impossible. The only ones you can see are the official Nintendo games and 5 others xD

Jonnas Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Ahahah, you're very lucky already. Here in Portugal is not hard to find games for Nintendo Wii... its impossible. The only ones you can see are the official Nintendo games and 5 others xD It's not that bad. Fnac and Worten (or was it Vobis?) usually have good selection. What baffles me is that Gamestage and other specialized stores are exactly like you described them, while the three I mentioned have a decent amount of them. In the Cube era, it was pretty much the opposite. Only Gamestage and the like had them.
Strange Cookie Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Surprisingly, Fnac has been one of the worst offenders lately. Some games are not on sale at all ever, but they do have a truckload of Harvest Moon. Once again, a good thing for games like HM, but still odd... The only stores that sell the aforementioned 'rare' games (or atleast at one point) here are GameMania (specialised) and, surprisingly, Free Record Shop, where until recently I rarely bought a game. But without them, I'd be without NMH or HotD.
Guest Maase Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 If you don't find something, buy at Online Stores such has Game... To me, is very usefull, i can have all the games that are out in Europe (well, much of them), i pay 15 euros less, i win Codes (yeah, here in Portugal we never receive Nintendo Club Codes). And Jonnas, that's maybe to you, in Porto, but here in Lisboa... we don't have any luck, lol
Jonnas Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 And Jonnas, that's maybe to you, in Porto, but here in Lisboa... we don't have any luck, lol It figures. Still, I know at least 2 Fnacs with a decent selection (at least they had the last time I went there). Well, there's still Mega Mania (PT online store). They were life-savers when I wanted Fire Emblem. And they have a pretty good service.
Start/Select Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Well im in the UK, I'd say it isn't too difficult to find these games but at times it has proved difficult. When Zack and Wiki launched, I wasn't able to find it in GAME or Gamestation but I found two copies in Game Stop. Also when No More Heroes came out, I had a pre-order set aside but I had a glance at the Wii section and there weren't any copies on the shelves nor were there any copies of Fire Emblem which came out on the same day.
Hellfire Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 We have to wait a while to see most games in stores usually. It's random, I got Galaxy at launch in GAME and they only got it at the end of the day and said they weren't expecting found Zack & Wiki randomly at launch too. Good thing is that once they go in stock, they won't go out of stock lol And Maase with the huge ammount of stores in Lisboa, I'd say you're not looking hard enough :P Stores are more a complement to online stores to me anyway.
