Calza
Right my family's laptop has been playing up for quite a while and we had been meaning to get it sorted out for a while due to we thought the problem was with hardware. It is a Vaio and seriously it has been atrocious, the lamp went, the keyboard is falling apart and it gets ridiculously dirty. Because of this we thought that because it wouldn't start up it must of been the hardware's fault however today I used a Ubuntu live cd and it booted up fine and ran it perfectly. So now it means that it must of been XP that was the problem so this is basically what it does. We get the VAIO startup bit with the Intel logo etc and then it boots windows up. We get to the scrolling bar bit and then the screen flickers and the laptop then restarts. This is followed by the Windows did not start properly screen and I have tried all of the safe mode options and it still does the same thing. So what should I do? XP came pre-installed so we don't have the cd's, we do have the product key because its on the back of the laptop so would that be any use? I know this is a pretty confusing problem so I don't expect much in the way of help but I was wondering if anybody has experienced this or similar and what they done. Caris
Download XP from a torrent or something then pop it onto a disk and use the product key you have. Then reinstall XP. Disks are disks the key is what you pay for.
