Oli1983uk Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 My girlfriends delllaptop has just died and wont boot anymore tried repairing the files but it dont fix it, the laptop didnt come with a restore disc. I was wondering if I use my XP dsic and put in the COA code from the laptop when it asks for it during installing XP will it work ok?
RoadKill Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 If you're using an OEM copy of XP, it'll work, if it was a pirated Corporate copy or a retail copy, no (I use a pirated OEM copy with a genuine OEM key, this works)
McPhee Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Well it's not really pirated. You pay for the license rather than the software and as you're still using the same license it is technically the same copy. Bit of a legal grey area tbh...
RoadKill Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 no no I mean that Corporate copies won't accept OEM keys, I don't care about legality.. Retail, OEM and Corporate licensing copies use different sets of keys
McPhee Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Yeah, i was just making a note before i start getting PMs, emails and MSN messages from certain members asking me to infract you for illegal discussion. Yes, some people are sad enough to harass me over such things (i name no names though)
Oli1983uk Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 I have a OEM copy but not sure what was used on my girlfriends laptop. I will give it ago anyway.
