  1. I've got Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, I think that was a rare one, when I was trying to get a hold of it in town none of the GAMEs or Gamestations had it, ended up going to a little independent called G-Force and the guy said that I probably got the last one in the city and he wasn't sure he would get it in again, that made me feel special :awesome:
  2. Safari For Windows

Heh woops didn't really mean it to come across like that, I more meant that any developers who want to develop for iPhone that don't have Macs already probably would have otherwise just given up developing iPhone apps. Although if they want to develop for iPhone surely they would have an iPhone to test it on...
  3. Computer slowdown when playing games

Something probably has a memory leak, try quiting FreeRamxp pro when you're gaming and turn off any other programs (anti-virus, firewall etc)
  4. Safari For Windows

I doubt that the reason for Apple releasing Safari on Windows was to capture some market share, that may be an added bonus but it definitely wasn't the main reason. Anyone who paid attention to the keynote will realise that the whole point of Safari on Windows is so that people wanting to develop apps for the iPhone don't have to buy Macs (because Apple know they won't), they can just test their applications on their Windows boxes since the iPhone and Safari both share Webkit. Having said this, I really hope that this helps KHTML and Konqueror (KDE's HTML rendering engine and web browser, the thing that Webkit and Safari are based on). There was a bit of talk at aKademy 2007 about porting KDE apps to Windows so maybe Apple will give them a hand at least with the web browser.
  5. Russia vs Britain- who would win?

Don't worry it won't happen, if it does I would imagine they would rush in the New World Order before anything gets too bad. http://tinwiki.org/wiki/New_World_Order
  6. The X-Files

I love the X-Files! Got all the seasons on DVD and the movie. The programme was truly amazing between season 1 and 7 then it kinda started to get gradually worse between seasons 8 and 9, although the later episodes had a lot more of AD Skinner, and I gotta say I that guy!
  7. Personally I want HD DVD to win because I could just buy the HD DVD player for my XBox 360 and start playing them without a MAJOR dent in my wallet :awesome: . I also have a general disliking for Sony. I think right now it's pretty close though, HD DVD has the upper hand in the naming (High Definition DVD... duh), porn industry and I think it's cheaper to make HD DVDs too. Problems with these are that consumers are getting more and more informed when it comes to naming, a lot more people are likely to know what Bluray is now than if this battle was going on 20 years ago. The porn industry, well, when people say VHS won because Porn went with it they are obviously forgetting that a hell of a lot more people get prom from the Internet these days, people couldn't do that back then. Bluray has more support from the film industry, it has higher capacity discs and of course every PS3 can play Bluray discs out of the box. Who knows who will win, aslong as the format which has the easiest security to break wins I'm happy.
  8. Firefox vs Internet Explorer 7

Firefox definitely wins, simply because it's themable, extendable and it just feels safer. I honestly do not trust Internet Explorer, it feels insecure, I can just feels the entire world watching wha I do online when I use IE. Been a Mozilla user since the Mozilla Suite was at 1.3 Beta so that's quite a while, used it all the way up to 1.8 Beta when I switched to Firebird I think it was called then. So yeah, not used Internet Explorer on my home computer for quite a while One thing I have to thank Mozilla for is that it's really what got me interested in open source stuff, been going more and more open source since then, now using Linux over Windows, OpenOffice.org instead of MS Office and of course Firefox instead of IE.
  9. Mac vs Windows

The reason Windows Media Player does more than iTunes is that iTunes is jukebox software, and Windows Media Player is is a Media Player. iTunes is jukebox, it's purpose in life to organize and sell you your music and videos.
  10. Mac vs Windows

In my experience OS X is just about as configurable as Windows if not more. I may come back later and post examples but I'm playing Harvest Moon, who knows when I'll be done.
  11. Mac vs Windows

EDIT: Wow I'm stupid, I never realised Jordan's post was on the first page, kinda bringing back an old argument. Oh well, my bad. Of course it won't have all the things you're used to in Vista, Macs run a different operating system. Of course your programs won't run... it's a different operating system. What are you talking about? I have never heard anyone say that PowerPC Macs are easier to upgrade. You can easily upgrade the RAM and Hard Disk in any Desktop or Notebook Mac, and you can upgrade pretty much everything in the Mac Pro. Yeah all Macs (except the Mac Pro) are kinda crap when it comes to CPU and Graphics Card upgrades, I'm hoping Apple will fix this at some point. I think the main problem with the iMac especially is it has got to save space, therefore things like the CPU don't have a little bay so you can swap it, it's actually soldered onto the Logic Board. I should hope so, it's only had 5 years to get that right</immature stab at Vista>. But seriously, I'm not actually saying you're wrong here, I would just like to see where you're getting this information from. Your friend/colleague/PC World guy doesn't count. Yes Macs are generally more expensive, there are two reasons I can see for this: you get iLife free with every Mac; and manufacturers like Dell get paid by AOL and others to include their software prominently on every computer, hence they can sell the computers at a lower price while Apple don't do this. Actually three, Apple are also aware that they have a lot of users who will pay anything to have the latest and greatest Mac, so they can afford to bump up the prices. Annoying but true. <see above> I'll give you that there can be a hell of a lot of issues with all the different hardware configurations but in my opinion a computers components are no excuse for programming errors which cause so many security problems in Windows. Again, I would like to see your evidence of this. Basically unless there is some seriously dodgy program doing something it really shouldn't (and I'm not actually aware of any like that), OS X will ask you if you're absolutely sure you want to do something if it could potentially compromise your computer's stability or security, asking you for the administrator password. Totally agree with you on this one, I hate most Mac users (although not all!). They do honestly believe they are superior when they're really not. If you want an example of this go to your local Mac User Group *shudder* Really? I love the White! although you can get Macs in black or silver, they're just a helluva lot more expensive, which is kind of a bummer. Man I wish I didn't always argue with you, it's just I have to make sure there are always two sides to an argument. I like your crown!
  12. Getting more out of my PC / Overclocking

OK, first things first, if some things seem to be getting slower than they once were then I don't think over clocking is your answer, it's not as if your computer has physically gotten slower, it's just that Windows has a sort of half-life, it gets slower over time. I have found that the best way to combat this is to back-up and reinstall Windows every year, maybe year and a half, although I think there are ways to clean up your system without reinstalling. These would include things such as defragging, cleaning up your registry and making sure you aren't infected with spyware/viruses. Personally I think that's a pretty good CPU you have there, if you were to overclock anything then I would go for the graphics card if you want better performance in games. Check google for Nvidia overclocking or ATI overclocking. If you do end up overclocking your CPU and GPU then be aware that alot of the performance increases you see may ultimately be psychological, in that your brain subconsciously knows that the system is a bit faster so it makes it seem faster to you even although it may not actually be all that much faster. It's been a good while since I've had to optimize a Windows box , but I know Google knows a lot about this, go ask it about Windows Tweaking and Registry Edits and that.
  13. Mac Thread

No I doubt you would have to open any ports. What makes you so sure it's your router apart from the fact it works on your work computer? Maybe you should delete your prefs folder for Messenger? Can't remember where it is just now, so ask Google.
  14. Servers.

    Pretty much. :awesome:
  15. Servers.

Well ok then, and I was just telling you that it is my honest opinion that Linux is much better at this sort of thing than Windows. And, as I asked before, what do you want to do with this server? (not that I can really answer you as I haven't run Windows in ages, just asking because it will help anyone else answer any of your questions)
  16. Servers.

Well that's just stupid, you say you want to learn about servers but you don't want to learn about the server operating system. That's like saying you want to get a degree but you don't want to have to go to any lectures. Linux is actually really easy to learn these days, especially if you've just got basic brand name hardware. The main problems these days with Linux is hardware support and with the amazing number of drivers in the latest kernels, the only real problems are webcams, TV cards, ATI graphics cards (I think, though they might be ok now) and other strange USB peripherals. Also, if you have a pretty new motherboard (i.e. released within the last 6 months) then you may run into some problems, although those are pretty easy to fix most of the time and of course it's all free. Ubuntu Linux is really the best distro if you're just starting out in the world of *nix, on the Desktop and Server sides. Best of all, it's got the best community out of any distro I've ever used, http://www.ubuntuforums.org is really awesome and they have a pretty active IRC channel. Also, what exactly do you want this server to do? Host websites? Host files? Act as a router? Act as a firewall? Be used as an email server? IRC server? The possibilities are endless... Anyway, my point is that if you want to learn how to run a server, you will try Linux, if you don't then I can't help you.
  17. Classic controller hate

I totally agree with this guy, the Classic controller could have been made so much better. And yes I have also always hated the PS1/2/3 controllers. Also, I don't like the stick on the nunchuck, the Gamecube had a much better stick IMO. Out of all the controllers I have ever used, the only one's I've really liked are the Wii Remote and the Xbox 360 controllers. The Gamecube controllers were OK but they felt kinda cheap, especially when you compare them to the 360 controllers. EDIT: and before anyone accuses me, no I'm not a Microsoft/Xbox fanboy, I only bought a 360 as I was dissapointed with the Wii titles coming out in the next few months. I use Linux and OS X EDIT2: OH! And I forgot to say I think the N64 controller is really cool
  18. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Wooo I just got my X360 like a week ago Got Crackdown, FEAR and Gears of War and my mate has loaned me Halo, Halo 2 and Fable. To be honest right now my favs are the two Halo games.
  19. Just a bit of fun, how much power does everyone own in total? Here's my list: Macbook (2GHz * 2 = 4GHz) PC (1.8GHz) iMac (400MHz) Wii (729MHz) Gamecube (485MHz) N64 (94MHz) Sega MegaDrive (7MHz) GBA (17MHz) DS Lite (67MHz + 33MHz = 100MHz) iPod 5G (80MHz * 2 = 160MHz) Total = 7.8GHz Kinda pointless, but hey, it's kinda interesting. (Note: For the sake of this, One core = one CPU, so dual and quad core CPUs counts as two and four CPUs, respectively. AMD CPUs should use their actual clock speeds, not their product numbers, so a Sempron 3100+ would be 1.8GHZ. And yes, Full size iPods really do have 2 CPUs!)
  20. How much power do you have?

The Ti-84 is about 15MHz I think, so the Ti-89 would probably be faster than that.
  21. How much power do you have?

I guess they count, after all isn't a GPU just a special CPU?
  22. How much power do you have?

Crap I just realised PS3 owners have a massive advantage
  23. ADSL T'Internet

You could check out some providers who have unbundled you exchange, i.e https://www.bethere.co.uk/ . These normally provide services which are fast than what you can get through a provider who goes through BT.
  24. New Wii Firmware version available: V2.1E

I'd be interested to know what you mean by 'It translates the codes of the discs into images' And a driver is a driver, not firmware. I'm annoyed at this update, my VC games still don't work with my component cable (i.e. blank screen). No, I'm not the only person with this problem: http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=70745&category_id=40&forum_id=1
  25. An Act Of Great Stupidity (doh !)

Heh, that gave me a little chuckle But at least you found it in the end, and iLife 06 really is pretty cool.
