Virtual Console - All you need to know
Myke Greywolf replied to Tellyn's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Confirmed: yup, it's Ocarina of Time. So, that makes it: - Kid Icarus (NES) - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Chew Man Fu (TG) Enjoy. -

The ROMs in the server are: - Kid Icarus (NES) - Chew Man Fu (Turbografx) - Unidentified N64 game (your guess is as good as mine) I couldn't identify the N64 game because no region has screenshots up for it yet. Europe will be the first region to get the third N64 VC game, but I haven't got a clue as for which one it is. Ocarina of Time, maybe? -

No LttP this week either. The screenshots have finally been uploaded to the server, and the games for this week are: - Excitebike (NES) - Kirby's Adventure (NES) - R-Type III (SNES) - New Adventure Island (Turbografx) -

OK, let me go clean on the "little birdie" matter. Even though I got the VC releases right on the last few weeks, I don't know any Nintendo insider. The truth is, I am one of a few people who figured out the URL naming scheme for the VC resource files inside the Wii Shop Channel server. I wrote a Python script to allow me to explore that scheme in order to find new files as soon as they are uploaded into the server. A little URL hacking, I like to call it. Yep, this script is the "birdie". I made the "birdie" story up so that people wouldn't ask me to give them the script. If too many people try to do this at the same time, there is the risk of overloading the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel server. So, please don't ask me for the script. In the last few weeks, Nintendo seems to have discovered that people have been using these tactics to discover which games will be released on the VC. They have been using some cute tricks in order to prevent people from doing this, such as uploading bogus screenshots or delaying uploading until the last possible moment. Nevertheless, they still have to upload and test the server files before making them available, and I am able to see them in this period. There's even the possibility that they put all the resource files for a game in the server, and don't release the game anyway. So, from now on, I'll just tell you people about the files I discover in the server, as soon as I discover them, and from then on, you can speculate all that you want about the releases for the week based on that information. So, what did "birdie" find this week? The ROM files for the european version of the following games have been uploaded to the Wii Shop Channel server: - Kirby's Adventure (NES) - Excitebike (NES) - R-Type III (SNES) [This was already in the server last week, but ended up not being released. Maybe this week?] - New Adventure Island (Turbografx) So, you can count on at least some of these games being released this week. Screenshot files for these games haven't been uploaded to the server yet. The presence of the screenshot files is an almost certain sign that the games will be released on that week. I will inform you all when I find the screenshot files for any of these games. -

Sorry, R-Type III is a no-go. Probably next week. The other three are confirmed, though. -

Zelda 2, Super Mario World and Vigilante are now confirmed by little birdie. Only R-Type III is tentative. -

OK, then! Little birdie managed to get me some information regarding this week's releases, but he's telling me that it is a little shaky and shouldn't be taken as fact yet. If this works out, he'll probably be able to be more confident for next week's anouncements. So, without further ado, here are little birdie's tips for this week's european VC releases: - Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (NES) - Super Mario World (SNES) - R-Type III (SNES) - Vigilante (Turbografx) Sorry, no LttP yet... but at least there's a Zelda game! -

Nope, not yet. Nintendo Europe must know of the information leaks. Birdie's telling me that they're getting awfully secretive regarding VC releases. I'll ask him again this afternoon. -

Is that so? That's not what Wikipedia says. I distinctly remember playing it on the ZX Spectrum, and the name of the game was Nemesis. -

Little birdie gave me his last update for the week, and it seems like we'll be getting 4 games this Friday. The list goes like this: - Bonanza Bros (MegaDrive) - Comix Zone (MegaDrive) - Gain Ground (MegaDrive) - Gradius (known in Europe as Nemesis) (NES) I'm thinking that 4 games is quite a lot for one week, but the little birdie hasn't ever failed me, so I'm trusting him. -

The little birdie just updated me, and confirmed that this will indeed be an all-MegaDrive week: - Bonanza Bros. (MegaDrive) - Comix Zone (MegaDrive) - Gain Ground (MegaDrive) At least we'll get one that the USA doesn't have yet. -
I'm betting on the YF-12.

You forgot to say these were this week's releases in the USA. We already had Mario Kart 64 and Super Contra (aka Super Probotector), in case you didn't notice. For this week's European VC releases, so far, little birdie could only confirm: - Comix Zone (MegaDrive) I'm sure I'll be able to make him chirp some more info before Thursday night, so stay tuned. -

Good news... the little birdie just dropped by with a little last-minute confirmation that we'll be getting Mario Kart 64 tonight. So: - Soldier Blade (Turbografx) - Mario Kart 64 (N64) -

If by "getting screwed again" you mean "only getting Soldier Blade" - then yes, we will be getting screwed again, if little birdie is right. -

I was just sitting in my office, and suddenly, the little birdie from last week came through the window. He landed on my shoulder, and chirped some quite bothersome news... So far, the only game confirmed for this week's european VC update is... - Soldier Blade (Turbografx) He said he'll come around again tomorrow if other games are confirmed. But we shouldn't get our hopes up... Well, at least we'll get the News Channel on Saturday. -
No accessories for the Wii in Portugal (Spain too?)

BS. I bought Wii Play at Sintra's Media Markt the day it was released, and never noticed any defects in the game or the included wiimote. -

For anyone who cares - this has now been confirmed. LttP is now available in the USA. I hope the birdie will come around tomorrow or Wednesday to chirp me some confirmation on all that MegaDrive goodness for Friday. -

All thanks should go to the little birdie! I'm glad he didn't let me down! Right now, he doesn't know when LttP will be up, but he might come to me again next Tuesday or Wednesday to tell me about next week's releases... stay alert! Now, to download Super Probotector! Edit: The little birdie just unexpectedly came to me right now, and confirmed that LttP will be available in the USA VC next Monday... so keep the hope alive for next Friday (no promises, though). -

I don't get it. Street Fighter 2 and Super Probotector are more than decent games by any standards. The little bird knew! -

Not really... but he did say that Shadow Dancer (Mega Drive) could be around the corner... but not this week. I'll check again with the little bird tomorrow morning and update here if he spills any more info. As for the bull shit accusation... we'll see about it tomorrow at 23:00, won't we? Willing to take a bet?
