  1. N-Sprites! E3 Special!

I loved this short series of comics, cheer Sprout, you have my thanks
  2. and that ultrasound is gotten from the existing microphone in the PSEye? I've gotta say, that's a really workaround'y way to do stuff in hardware that wasn't supposed to do that. Might work well enough, but it does seem like what sony had to do in order not to integrally copy wii's tech. Otherwise they'd do something like Wii did from the beginning. not at 640x480. that 120Hz mode is for 320x240.
  3. hmm? what are you reffering to?
  4. N-Sprites! E3 Special!

    AWESOME (welcome back)
  5. Did Nintendos E3 Inspire You?

Even if they're inspired... take Metroid: Other M as a example... it's being developed since 2006, that's 3 years now. I'm sure Nintendo has a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, Pikmin, Zelda, intelligent systems must be doing something too, HAL too, etc. They just aren't ready to show it just yet, or launch them for that matter. I like to be hyped years prior to a game launching and all that, but Nintendo is secretive, always was and gotten more lately (although perhaps while not showing it they've gotten more open in saying "yeah it's being done"), but that doesn't mean they aren't making anything.
  6. Did Nintendos E3 Inspire You?

yup the line-up is looking pretty damn strong for the later part of the year. The conference was a mixed attempt though, they only had 60 minutes and wanted to, at the same time, show core/hardcore games and first/third party games within those genres, fitting as many titles in there made it so that they weren't able to really cover any of them properly. plus they came back and forth on that theme to the point it seemed like there was no criteria. They still delivered, yes, but whatever their message was got diluted, IMO. As a RPG fan I also think they should have given Marvelous/Xseed a nod, their games are looking awesome and are all coming in 2009 in US.
  7. Gah! Seriously? Why must the Wii always have the shadow of other platforms overtaking it or loosing steam dammit? it is selling more than the other 2 combined on a monthly basis, it's selling more than PS3 in japan again ALREADY, and of course... ALL THIS WITHOUT REDESIGNS; PRICE DROPS; COLORS OR EVEN BUNDLES. "If" it was to lose steam just throw some of those into the loop and call it a day; like the other platform manufacturers already did MULTIPLE TIMES, this gen. Plus... the motion controllers? lol, they aren't standard, they're quite early in development and they don't even have a date to launch. More like the PHANTOM MENACE. Plus I'll give the OP thread something... did you know Nintendo thought at one point to release the Wiimote as a Gamecube add-on? Do you think it would have the same impact? Think of console's as a titanic ship or something; even if Sony and Microsoft are seeing a Iceberg they can't dodge them with a new add-on whose userbase will start from ZERO. Wii lost and WON'T loose anything. it's by far the winner platform of this gen, and the one who propelled everything the others are doing (and is able to do it just as well and plus... as a standard). Get over it. PS: Wii motion plus does everything the PS3 add-on does, and as for Natal... what you've seen is proof of concept, they don't have the infraestructure for most of that happening (trying dresses on your Mii... I mean avatar?), plus... don't you feel dumb trying to imagine you're driving without a wheel? It's like going from Guitar Hero to Air Guitar Hero; it's not always better to have nothing at hand, just like I don't think playing games with my brain waves is the future, as technically advanced as that is. Button precision and motion sensing precision are very different, plus gyroscopes are very precise in a way I suspect a camera can't surpass. didn't you notice Xbox, a FPS centric console didn't even attempt to have a fps played with that tech? why do you think that is? Speaking of sucessfull add-ons though... either they become standard (which they won't, for other platforms) or they're just niche products. For instance... eyetoy, singstar and buzz? they sold a lot, but do third party games use them? Or even the Wii Balance Board, how many third party games use it? and how many do so exclusively? yep, that's your answer right there. Natal and PS3 new add-on controller will launch with a userbase of ZERO units, if anything it's questionable if they'll ever have a real support that isn't a gimmick/remapped controls to the input... let alone games made from the ground for it and only for it. Plus... we've got software maturating right now, a game using the wiimote now is not the same as a game using the wiimote back when it launched... that's a important lesson. /thread
  8. Factor 5 working on Wii

They were indeed second party at one point, and they only ceased to be because they wanted to.
  9. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

yeah, I always found Sumo Digital to be a average developer. And... they're developing this one.
  10. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

And in a literal way too:
  11. Trauma Team

Not really... 16:9, better graphics and 480p The original lacked all that. And anyway and just for the record I stand for what I said in my first post.
  12. Wii General Discussion

Hah! you fell for it! :p I can loan you my KH1 copy, if you want to play it that badly. And that reminds me... I've gotta give Hellfire that extra KH2 unit I have and promised him aeons ago (came doubled in the mail, some kind of mistake)
  13. Captain Rainbow!!

    ^ me too
  14. Trauma Team

Dam you Atlus, I want RPG's not "I want to be a doctor" games that give profit only to see yet another installment next year. bunch of pussies. This is the Atlus equivalent to Umbrella Chronicles.
  15. Does Size Matter?... How Big Is Too Big?

The Sharp I posted was at 8 out of 10 possible degrees in the sharpness bar, that's more than your TV was at. Trust me, the upscale difference is really big, between a sharp/panasonic (if they didn't butcher their entry points meanwhile) and a samsung. Samsungs of course tend to be cheaper so to each one it's own, but you get what you pay for. The Panasonic running MH3 is not mine, it's from a friend, I can't comment on the gameplay due to that... I haven't played, only seen it being played. I saw it being played with a classic controller, seemed really unchanged in that sense, next to other MH's. Suffices to say that immediately after seeing it I ordered it MHG+MH3 demo, hopefully it gets to my house before saturday so I can try it myself. The graphics were mindblowing, yes. looks really good and almost has no aliasing, the only way I managed to notice it in that TV was if I looked straight at the character's sword and tried to see it, really. I won't say it'll be like that everywhere though, will depend on the TV. Where I've seen it... Could pass for a 720p game when it comes to the degree of detail it suggests. Lightning is completly next gen too. Dead monsters disappear, after you take the stuff from them (bones, flesh, etc to make weapons) it also happens on Monster Hunter MMORPG on the PC. And loading screen exist yeah, but the thing is... they're overblowing it. Loading takes at most 2 seconds, and instead of a black screen fading in and out you have a loading screen. It has a psychological effect... sure, but if they had a black screen instead no one would be complaining about that. I'd class it as twilight princess loading range, and the way the areas work is also similar. there were videos with dudes entering and coming out several times at those points as if they were lost, of course it wouldn't stop appearing... Providing they aren't doing that though... The areas are MASSIVE, the draw distance is really amazing.
  16. Does Size Matter?... How Big Is Too Big?

I beg to differ: And that's not even a 1000 euro TV. (and yes, it's MH3) Your TV allows to see the jaggies even with the forum redimensioning going on. Plus, it has some kind of emboss going on. Have you lowered your sharpness to the lowest? Anyway... I wouldn't call that good upscale at all, in fact I wouldn't buy that TV solely based on the results you posted. PS: the TV in the photos is a 42" I can also post images of a sharp LCD TV upscale (2 year old 700 euro TV at that) and it'll kick that TV of yours into oblivion as well. EDIT: 2 year old 700 euro Sharpy to the rescue: Endless ocean looks particularly awesome. All this with no special calibration at hand (sharpness isn't even at it's lowest, or even leaning towards that, quite the oposite)... now look for them jaggies. (of course you can still spot some once in a while and up close but damn, it's not like I can count them like on that samsung of yours)
  17. Kizuna

    ouch, what happened?
  18. Ju-On: The Grudge (Fright Sim, AQ Interactive)

^ Isn't Fatal Frame 4 coming though? called Zero: A Japanese Ghost Story. They even did ads on it, and it's listed in physical stores through europe.
  19. Does Size Matter?... How Big Is Too Big?

Not really, it's the kind of feature the regular consumer doesn't even know it's there; hence they'll compare a Panasonic 32" TV to a 32" Samsung and think they're the same and that Panasonic is ridiculously overpriced by comparison. They couldn't be farther from the truth. Most entry point TV's go right to the upscaler and nuke it in some form; since you don't know it's there, after all a good one has to be pretty powerful, we're talking about bicubic kind of quality (a photoshop filter), applied to 60 images per second (minimum) with no noticeable lag. Most entry point HDTV's can't even cope with regular poor upscaling at a proper speed, hence offering those "gaming modes" that either reduce the post processing quality further so it manages to be faster and thus... responsive enough for gaming or they turn off color stabilization (really bad for the image quality). A good TV never ever needs such thing as a gaming mode. (some high end ones still offer a preset called like that as some kind of feature though) With those TV's you only can regulate the sharpness, and the only logic decision to make is... lower it until the max. Samsung and LG are particularly bad, and Sony used to follow suit as they used to have samsung screens under the hood, albeit with different chips I remember the top range model to only be able to score an "average" at deinterlacing... for instance. Either way now they realized that was turd and made, at least the top range ones to be toshiba; I haven't read feedback from those yet. Anyway the brands I've never seen disapoint in that area are panasonic, sharp aquos and pionneer... pretty much. And the other tip I can give is... if you ever see a TV from any brand that's unbelievably cheaper compared to anything else/the price such product goes for... be weary, it's either a old stock/last gen HDTV that's still being manufactured (and those tend to be ok, although they have less contrast ratio) or... they're crap made to catter for the entry point.
  20. Does Size Matter?... How Big Is Too Big?

Obviously the bigger the screen is and the more resolution it has the more likely it can appear wrong. But that is mostly due to two factors... dot pitch size: 1080p is the top range no matter what, a 32" 1080p TV and a 100" TV have the same resolution, but play it at the same distance and you'll see a bucketload of pixels in the later, so pick a right TV for the space you have. (for the record 32" 1080p is not really right for a living room TV since at the distance you're supposed to be... 720p to 1080p shouldn't be noticeable, meaning you have to be closer to see. upscale quality: Even if it's horrible (or non-existent) it'll be less noticeable on: a) a smaller screen b) a screen with less pixels Of course a bigger screen will often have more resolution than the entry point screen and it'll be... well, bigger, meaning the original image has to be scretched to fill more pixels which, with a crappy upscaler chip is the recipee for a disaster. Solution: get a good TV with proper upscale; good brands are Panasonic, Sharp Aquos, Pioneer and some Philips LCD TV's (be careful with Philips, some are good some are horrible, only purchase if you know the model/can test it beforehand) Extra good solution: Plasma's: Their pixels are different than LCD's, instead of a square predefined block in a dot matrix layer, so it'll tend to appear a lot less jagged than it would on a LCD, giving it a "softer" appearance. That way you don't have to worry about inches. (trust me, I've seen plasmas over 42" giving awesome image on wii games). Only consider Panasonic and/or Pioneer as Plasma brands though, everything else sucks. Plus, you'll be hard pressed to find a plasma with less than 42" anyway. CRT HDTV's: I don't even know if these are still sold, but Philips sold them a little over a year ago. They were very, very good and cheap compared to LCD's and Plasma's.
  21. Arc Rise Fantasia (Marvelous/Image Epoch)

Rising Star will bring it over... in 2010.
  22. Capcom Take The Piss

Capcom's mobile entertainment division is a separate entity than Capcom gaming division. Hence, Capcom gaming division can't interfere with them which is why RE4 for mobile phones, or devil may cry never made it to say... DS. It was never in the table or was something simple to happen... because their mobile entertainment division doesn't make games for DS. (as dumb as not porting a re 3D game running on a arm architecture seems) Plus, the teams involved are completly different, point in question... DMC4 director has spoken against any DMC portable attempt and thus certainly didn't do or colaborate with the mobile phone version... neither did any member of the DMC capcom studio. Don't pay too much attention to it.
  23. Sadness

here goes: since we've seen the project is pretty much nonexistent... how did they manage to get a gamebryo licence and do a press release in the lines of "SADNESS IS POWERED BY GAMEBRYO"? We're talking about the oblivion engine after all, were they (gamebryo developers) that desperate? I mean... if anything it's having a engine associated with... vaporware, shouldn't they have made sure that they had assets and some stuff going on? which they hadn't? Plus: Do they even have Wii development kits? official ones? are they a licenced Nintendo Wii developer? how did they manage that?
  24. Red Steel 2 (£4.95 @Zavvi)

I think what's confusing people is the fact the game has Bloom/HDR in adiction to cel shading and they usually see the effect going on in a world composed of only primary colors down to textures and lightning (wind waker'ish) rendering any color gradient subtle at best in a attempt to make the game look like a 2D painting/cartoon of sorts, which this does not, or not in the same vein. We could try adding bloom to the wind waker engine and character modeling like this to easily achieve the look. Might I add that samus in Metroid Prime 3 is actually cel shaded :p no one notices that at first. Time will tell, will depend on output resolution and rendering engine... just like red steel 1 could look pretty alright when bullshotted but looked jaggy and flickery as hell on the actual hardware. but that was that lousy UE2.5 unoptimized build who basically thought the wii was a PS2/directX6/7 system or so. No way they could pull this is there, let alone the 60 frames that Nintendo Power claimed. I think it'll look pretty good although I don't know just how good. the style borrows itself to come out strong and the motion blur seems constant... that might be a nice way to fake AA, question is if it is applied only to enemies or apply's to the camera/scenario turning. It's looking good nonetheless. Pretty common in Portuguese speaking countries as well
