    Not any more!

So I got this for Christmas, and i'm probably going to be spamming yet another buried, old thread with my impressions as I play through it.

I've not played a main-line Pokémon game since Gold (assuming Pokémon Let's Go doesn't count), so i'm a bit behind. However, this one seems to be separate from all the others, so hopefully it won't matter so much that I missed out so many in between.

The start is pretty painful, with the writing in particular being god-awful. None of it makes sense. None of the people at the research camp have managed to catch more than 3 Pokémon? Really? Why is that your condition to pass the test for entry into camp then? And then they tell you than you can't carry more than 6 Pokémon at a time - how would they know? None of them have managed to get that far! The dialogue is so full of hand-wavey "oh, i feel like you're supposed to go this way", "it seems like maybe you should do this", which is such crap.

The beginning bit is so slow and drawn out, and really boring, but it's for kids, so we can cut them some slack, I suppose.

Anyway, once you make it into the first area, and start catching Pokémon, the game livens up a bit. Battling and catching wild Pokémon is pretty moreish, and I'm already itching to go back and play some more, which is a good sign. The catching/battling mechanics are a bit weird, but I'm sure I'll get used to them. I am already very attached to my Bidoof.

Aaaaand neither will you. If anyone will be the last person, it'll be me. After playing Violet, I'm back on the games and this will be something for me to get! The question is, do I get this or do I get Scarlet? I'm aiming to get the rest of the Pokemon games as I have a lot of them and I really want to go through them again. I've fell in love with Violet. No idea what to do, is Arceus better than Violet?

Urgggh, I swear 95% of people are playing Violet, trying to trade for the Scarlet exclusives using the link codes takes forever! The one time I wanted to trade the other way I found the right version first time :blank:

Can any Scarlet players help me out with the following?

    • Flutter Mane (in premier ball)
    • Slither Wing
    • Sandy Shocks
    • Roaring Moon (x2, one in premier ball)
    • Karoidan (permanent trade for Miraidon)

I can trade the Violet exclusive versions if needed.

Also need to trade Scyther and Slowbro to evolve them, then trade back again.

Wait, really? I'd have thought it was the opposite because the only copies I can ever find is Violet. I'm after Scarlet as well now. I'm properly hooked on the game. Just wondering though, if I got Scarlet pre-owned, would I still be able to get the Pikachu with Fly? I can't get it brand-new so I'm thinking it could be my only option...

  3. Unless it's changed for this game it's always still counted. The Pokédex is "have you had" rather than "do you currently have".
Ahhh got it. I've been thoroughly enjoying Violet. I got a code for Pikachu and I'm using him as my main. I also chose Fuecoco as my starter but would LOVE Quaxly as well! I need to figure out trading to get it.

  4. Do you mean which version? Because that depends on whether you have an NSO account. If you do, then it doesn't really matter. Someone here will likely help you out with any version exclusives you want. If you don't have NSO, then you should make your choice dependant on which version has the exclusive Pokémon you like. Although that depends on how blind you want to jump into it.
I normally just go with the one that has the Pokémon on the cover that I like better. Which is why I chose Scarlet.
I got Violet because it's the only one I could get hold of!

  5. I'm not exactly new to Pokémon but I am when it comes to the newer games. I really want to give this a go but not sure on where to start: Violet or Scarlet. My last game that I properly played was X and Y. I tried Sword but didn't feel it much. I've heard good things about this minus the bugs. What would you guys recommend?

  7. Next door has been ripping their house down to the foundations and doing it up for the last 4 months.  It's got that bad, that i've been losing sleep because they like to start around 8am and work right through to 7-8pm most days.  Doesn't help matters when i'm working and all i can hear is hammering, jackhammering etc.  Have been considering moving back to my parents for a while until it calms down.  They have been down every day the last 2 weeks, including Christmas Day working on that house.
Next door hasn't exactly been making a lot of friends in the street, myself and my partner included.  Their house has been targeted for a lot of vandalism and the like, and they've asked me to keep an eye out for any troublemakers and call the police because i have a camera on the house.  The house next door to them, the tenant spent Christmas Day in a police cell because he decided to smash next doors car windows because of the ongoing DIY.
That's ridiculous! Is there no way you can put in a noise complaint?

I've got the flu for the first time ever and it was horrific. It started on Christmas Night as well so I guess Santa left me germs for Christmas, haha. Getting better now though so that's something! I'm just gutted because I really wanted to get back into the gym before this year ended.

  8. I did pretty well, to be honest. I got the complete Peaky Blinders, Mortal Kombat: Snow Blind and the live-action movie from 2021 on Bluray, a Cobra Kai t-shirt, a Cobra Kai hoodie, 51 Worldwide Classics for the Switch, cash, Jack Daniels and Alan Wake Remastered, Gotham Knights and Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising on PS5.

All in all, a bloody good Christmas haul!

Had nobody seen Black Panther 2 yet? The first few reactions I'm seeing are positive.

I'd have seen it already if I didn't agree to go with other people.. I'm seeing it Saturday.

I watched it this morning and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely the best MCU movie/show of the year. I felt a little underwhelmed at first but I loved it overall. I'm going to watch it again sometime this week!

Yes, very surprised at Germany being so low and not even getting a point from any jury.

The Serbia song was well odd and can only imagine it got points for how ridiculous the choreography (if you can call it that) was rather than the quality of the song or performance.

I didn't think our song (Ireland) was great and wasn't fussed didn't make the final, but I also didn't watch either or the semi finals so tonight was my first time seeing all the songs. So now I am wondering how Serbia got to the final ahead of ours.

This wasn't the strongest year. Ukraine wasn't a winning song for me. Germany, Spain and UK were memorable as were Norway (it was odd but kind of catchy), Poland and Finland (The Rasmus!!). I can't remember the country but there was another song that was pretty cool. They were one of the last countries to have been judged by the votes. She had short hair, started on the floor and kicked into a sort of soft rock song.

Ukraine win with a massive public vote.

Hopefully Putin is no longer having his hissy fit and they are able to host next year.

I mean, we all predicted this...right?

For me, the UK had the best song and I am so proud of Sam Ryder! The song is phenomenal and his voice is amazing and second place is the best the country has done in years! He should be proud.

The biggest shock was Germany being last. They should've swapped places with Serbia (or the handwashing song). It weren't my cup of tea.

I had considered putting Spain in my top 5 but I was thinking my opinion might have been clouded by the... Lets say wardrobe and I didn't think I listened to the song well enough :p

I was practicing my proposal in Spanish 😂

Rasmus were performing Finland's song! How did I not know this sooner.

I said the same thing! I didn't know either! Pleasant surprise! I really loved the song as well. It was great but I just loved Space Man more.

I'm not being biased at all. I've followed Sam Ryder for a long time and love his voice. Genuinely, I loved that song so much. For me, it's the best of the night. I know it probably won't win but it should, at least, be top 5 or even top 10. If its last or bottom 5, that would be ridiculous!

Oh and Germany were wicked too. Really liked their song.

Just found out that all of My Wife and Kids is on Netflix. For years I've tried finding a download/DVDs of that show. Finally I can ruin my childhood memory of it!

You can get the DVDs. I have Season 1 but it's a different region. I'm sure you'll be able to get the others.

Hmm, yeah I'm not so sure about that...
The Bleep Test: The Best 20 Metre and 15 Metre Beep Test ...

Thank you! Glad it's all done! It would take me years to do a plan for ALL of you so you can all fight for them Hunger Games-style! :D

I love the Bleep test! I'm actually pretty decent at it...or was pretty decent at it. I haven't tried it in two years!

  15. I finished watching all of Dexter: New Blood in one sitting. I literally watched all ten episodes back-to-back because I was gripped. It more than made up for that horrible ending of Dexter.

    Spoiler

People had their problems with the ending but I thought it was a perfect way to end his story. At the end of the day, he broke the code that he held throughout his whole life. He became the very monsters he killed to satisfy the Dark Passenger. Although Harrison was annoying, I thought it was fitting that he was the one to finish the story. The best thing they can now do with Dexter is to leave well alone. Everything is tied up with a nice bow rather than whatever the fuck that final season of Dexter was. I absolutely loved seeing Debra again!

So I just seen Scream (aka Scream 5) on a site, I better not mention here.

What a GARBAGE repeat, and it's not even very entertaining or original either.

Wes Craven, you deserve so much better. RIP, good sir.

I thought he would have been pretty proud of it, to be fair. If anything, it reminded me more of Scream than the other sequels. They honoured the first one and what '96 did for slashers as well as recognising that it's a continuing story. I was pretty excited for this and I did go in with high expectations because it's a series I hold very close to my heart. It ignited my love for horror (which was ironically recognised in the new film). However I understand why some people didn't like it but I would recommend watching it in the cinemas and giving it another try.

I haven't been to the cinema in literal years. Last movie I saw there was Joker, fun times. Looking forward to the second Sonic movie. The first one was really good. I've heard bad thing about Scream 4. This is what you get if you wait over 20 years to try and reboot a franchise. I hate what they did to the Elm Street movies as well if i'm honnest.

There was good and bad with the new Scream but overall, it was pretty great. It's definitely the most brutal in the franchise and I thought the story, for the most part, was definitely the strongest of the sequels. I did have a problem with a couple of things but I adored the easter eggs and the references in this one.

    Spoiler

I loved it because it wasn't afraid to be bold. The kills were brutal from a simple neck stab to being stabbed numerous times. In the previous Screams, they cut away from the multiple stabs quite a few times but with this one, it felt different and that wasn't a bad thing. It wasn't afraid to hold back. It showed that you don't need flying guts everywhere to make you feel uneased. I also loved the fact it answered an 11 year old question in the form of an easter egg: Kirby from Scream 4 (Hayden Panettiere) is alive! During a YouTube video (a cameo made by YouTuber's Dead Meat, who I love), you can see a video in the Recommendeds saying "Interview with Woodsboro Survivor: Kirby Reed" and it was dated 3 years ago. It was an unanswered question in Scream 4 because you never actually saw her die. It turned out that Wes Craven wanted Kirby to survive and become a final girl but Kevin Williamson wanted her dead. I also loved the little nods to horror in the film as well and the respect it had for the original was great too. I really enjoyed the cameo of Martha, Randy's sister from Scream 3, and the fact she has kids who were part of this film was a nice touch. I loved the story a lot more than I expected to and found myself really enjoying Sam's story. I was hoping the characters were going to be at least average and I ended up caring for them bar one, Amber, which brings me to my next bit.

There was only two things that I didn't like: the reveal and the motive. Both sucked. The killers were sort of obvious if you've watched Scream before. If you've seen four of them, you should know who to look out for. Amber had the least amount of screen-time (or felt like it) so instantly I knew it was her and funnily enough, as soon as Richie came on the screen, I instantly said "It's him...straight fact". I loved how Dewey instantly knew as well. Speaking of, I hated the fact Dewey was killed by Amber. It made no sense considering she wasn't the same height as him and wasn't as obsessed with the Stab franchise as Richie so it would've made a lot more sense if it was him. The motive was poor too, the poorest of them all and that's saying something considering I hated Scream 3's reveal and motive, but I still enjoy the films all the same. Unfortunately it did leave me a little sour but not enough for me to not be satisfied of the entry and to want more. Even the legacy characters had the right amount of screen-time for me. I know people wanted them there longer but the point of the film was to create something new but familiar and I think they did it perfectly.Sam and Tara are both interesting characters and I was rooting for them entirely. Mindy and Chad were awesome additions to the series as well and very likeable. I'm actually surprised with how they had their own identities but strongly brought the movie-geek persona that Randy gave in the first two Screams, something that was sorely missing in Scream 3. I loved the memorial "for Wes" and paying tribute to Craven (like the picture in Randy's memorial of a cinema playing "A Nightmare on Elm Street") and the names (like Dylan Minnette being named Wes and Sam having the second name Carpenter, as a tribute to John Carpenter). I'm glad they've kept the tradition alive for that. I also loved the intro too, it's definitely the best intro since the original hands-down. It felt more like Scream and it delivered. The iconic phone call from Scream 1996 was a very nice touch and definitely beats the cinema intro from Scream 2 and the meta-intro from Scream 4. It just hit the right notes for me.

For me, this shits all over Halloween Kills, which was dire and misleading and tried to achieve what Scream 2022 did. I can't wait to see this again to see what other easter eggs I missed.

  17. I'm late to the party but screw it, I'm putting this out there to the universe!

I want to pass my Personal Training course, lose at least 2 or 3 stone and try to jog 5K. The last one I used to be able to do very easily but since I've had my foot injury, it's not been so great. However, it's feeling a helluva lot better so I'm going to try and do it in intervals and take it slow!

Performance RT should be the “best” option if you want a nice balance of graphical performance and high frame rate. Dependent on your setup and how sensitive you are to frame rates you may find one of the other options better. Best thing to do is give them all a try and see which works best for you.

Basically I want it as smooth as silk and looking amazing, haha. I think I might be on the correct setting. I noticed it said that it was 1080p and not 4K but honestly, it still looked better than it did on the PS4. The colours are a lot more vibrant and clear and the fluid movement was just amazing to play

Welcome to the club! I buy all of my games through PSN and there is usually a stand-alone version for the PS5 when a conversion has been done “properly” - I say “properly” as I’m sure many of these are just a PS4 Pro version labeled differently. All of the games have had to be compatible with PS4 Pro for a long time now so you’ll at least get that version with anything you have that is specifically PS4 only.

PS5 specific stuff I think Miles Morales and Astro’s Playroom are essential. Once F1 2021 came out in the summer I haven't actually played much else so I need to do some catching up myself.

I just bought the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales so I got Spider-Man Remastered with it and I see a massive difference. I've played that game to death and loved it and it's great looking at the visuals. I don't know what settings to have it on. Right now, I have it on "Performance RT" (I think it's called that). Is that the best one?

  20. Instantly had to play this as soon as I got my PS5 and I do not regret my decision. This game is fucking insane in the best way possible! I love it! I love the fact nothing is the same. I died once by this big git and all I had was a pistol. I was thinking "okay, I'll get the bastard back now because I got this shit", right? Nope, the whole bastard game changed on me and I am here for every single second of this shit! I have buckled up! I have to try and find technology to destroy the xenotech shit on the gates but I've had so much fun trying to avenge people (avenged two so far) that I completely forgot about the mission!

First trailer for Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore!

I'm so fucking excited for this! I missed the Wizarding World so much!

I watched all of The Matrix movies including Resurrections and watching them back-to-back made me appreciate the trilogy a lot more. I used to hate Revolutions because it felt very separate but seeing all three of them together was quite well done, I thought. I still think it's the weakest one though. Resurrections was very enjoyable- I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a whole different story. The trailer looked quite promising with actually following the games enough for fans to love it but alas, it was pretty dull with no tension and the characters (except for Chris and Claire) were badly cast. It's a shame because I thought it held potential and it's sad to see it wasted with crap cast choices, characters doing pointless shit and scenes being added with zero relevance to the film. At least the Project: Alice series was entertaining at some level...
