Ok so let's break this down a bit:
Possessives are either masculine or feminine as you probably already knew. "Il mio" is the masculine singular one we're using here. However, when dealing with family members we tend to drop the "Il" and just say "mio" just incase you go confused. The masculine plural is "I miei" (Pronounced "mee-yay". And another little rule, when talking plural, you need to add the "I" back in, so my brothers would actually be "I miei fratelli".
To say someone's called so and so, it's said like "Mio fratello si chiama Matthew". If you want me to explain as to why it's like that, just ask
