  1. It's interesting that it appears it could be that Tegra dropped the ball on this; but I don't know if it's just them or a unique combination of hardware or what tbh. Bit sucky for Nintendo if they did their own due diligence; but I'm reckoning this'll blow the current Switch market a bit open; and I'll hoonestly expect a notable spike in sales and demand for what's on the shelf right now. I feel bad for Ninty if this is basically Nvidia's fault given they've always been rife for piracy - but at the same time if it happens it happens, and if NVidia are to blame at least hopefully they can get some recompense maybe depending on agreements? If anyone has a switch to sell in the meantime tho...
  2. So apparently the Switch has just had a rather large major hack - is ROM related and thus apparently unpatchable on anything shipped so far; not sure the whole stories/news etc. but linking an article with some more info. http://www.alphr.com/games/1009172/nintendo-switch-hack Please be mindful that whilst something like this may have any manner of implications; we do not encourage forms of emulation or piracy, and cannot condone discussion of this.
  3. Organ Donation: Opt Out?

Funnily enough I thought exactly the same as I made my post - do it with voting registration! Recheck every once in a while somehow maybe, but carefully avoid tangling the two together too much. However I then thought why not go down the PSHE route as unlike voting it isn't neccessarily a cyclical decision or one that can't be made/changed at any time - having it on a curriculum agenda as a single quick lesson in PSHE seems exactly the sort of useful thing a subject like that could be used for. Edit:forgive me btw when I call it PSHE if it isn't called that these days; I've little to no clue of what the modern day education system is upto at all. Iirc it did at some point have a different name but server still a similar purpose.
  4. TL;DR - this spawned out of a moderation comment I made within the Nintendo Switch Online thread; the premise of this thread is essentially as follows; though due to the nature and splitting it is difficult to elaborate upon the original points within earlier posts, so I will post a summary/quote of the original prompting post here, and some follow-up afterwards/later. Now there's a srs tl;dr warning to come with this - so be prepared to be called if you don't read it all. First things first; Apologies - these are owed both to other staff here for essentially once again being renegade and undertaking things on the spur of a moment of my own accord without discussion due to my afforded authority as a mod; I like to follow a democratic process but fully recognise I often initiate these independently. Next - apologies to any members affected by my posts and the subsequent derailing of the original thread; it wasn't my intention and I thought I'd be able to edit it better than I managed at the time (but I'll come to this too). What this thread is - this thread is an extension of my own personal right to resign my moderatorship and nothing else. Nobody else within N-Europe has either sanctioned this or its approach nor should they be held to account due to my actions regardless of what arguments are made. I will stick to and enforce this steadfastly whilst I still have the power to do so. What this thread isn't - a thread regarding my, or anyone's, right to a presence on the forums in place of modship. Sacrificing my modship does not mean I will abandon these forums as a member. I will continue, until informed otherwise by those who have the say, to exist as a member of this community and these forums. I will continue as a member of these forums, and most likely still express similar views where I can, albeit not from a moderator PoV. Having said this, I am more than happy to have my conduct both as a member, and as a moderator, freely questioned without judgement on those passing it within this thread. I can't guarantee outcomes of any of this, but I will do my best to take everything on board. This includes feedback from other moderators/admins if they wish to contribute; but these are views of these members are members and nothing else. It is no indication of 'official' positions etc. Ofc, if anyone wishes to try and captialised in any sort of percieved division if a criticism comes from a fellow staff member - people are free to do so. I will say resolutely I have very high faith in all of the admin, moderation, and writing staff of the forum. If I did not I would not feel resolute enough to suggest or post this thread. Why is this thread - I've always seen problems with this community and in particular this sub-forum. I get frustrated trying to strike a balnace between making the community friendly, welcoming and hospitable for all that they stick around; as well as not acting too harshly in my moderation as to dissuade people from posting. Some members may consider other certain members problematic - but it's a fact that more often than not the views being held and expressed are perfectly valid but the manner in which that expression is conducted is not necessarily always so, imo. What if you want to say something, but not publicly? - I'm considering this, and probably an anonymous poll as a final result of this, with the ability for those members who wish to put their names publicly to any views they hold in addition. If you wish to comment on the matter, outside of here, please feel free to get in touch with me or another member of staff via PM(again apologies to colleagues I've unexpectedly burdened :p). I am NOT seeking to shut down or stifle any discussion, but I recognise also that some do not wish to necessarily get involved in such public drama etc. where their name will be attached. But what does this all MEAN? - I can't actually be 100% sure or honest yet. Basically(as seen below in original post) - I get tired trying to moderate and being told it's just me, nobody cares, I'm wrong etcetc. Particularly of note is that I actually feel I'm quite liberal and avoidant of moving too quickly towards punishments such as bans or official warnings. I am not looking to exclude any members from this community if they have productive contributions or points to make or, but I am not keen if I feel them being made in unproductive ways. Depending on the outcome I may become more decisive/harsh in my moderation actions - but I will aim to ensure this isn't just giving me some limitless power to act indiscriminately. As I have always offered - a continuing path of resolution through PMs or public visitor messages will be available(I'm not seeking to act behind any closed doors). I think, in fact, that transparency in my actions are of the best benefit to the forum; hence this topic! But what about you, Rummy? - Good question. My actual response separate from outlining the nature of this thread is going to be made in a post I'll link this comment to as soon as I've made it as a response post to the things I wish to. Please be mindful if just reading the reason for the numerous preceding posts is because this started in another topic and splits preserve times of posting etc. - actual response is this post here now So wait, WHAT is this thread about again? - Ah. Basically are you guys happy with me being a mod, trying to mod, and continuing to do so? Judging on this or past performances? I just do it cos the place is close to my heart, and I've still got strangely high/big hopes for the place. I want the community nice for that though, so I maybe moderate to a level people think is unnecessary. If you agree, or disagree, let it be known! If I continue I do it for here, if I stop, I stop for here too. What sort of mod truly wants to mod where its not seen to be needed by the moderated?? -------------------------------------- OP - with quotes and clicks for following back as needed. I had to draw a line somewhere and started with this. Now I've already given you the wiggle room in my original response - but I'll make it clear again. It's probably just your phrasing and not an intent; but I'll take the opportunity to explain to you (unrelated to moderation, I actually agreed with the sentiment of your post). You have posted a question, and within less than 6 hours - responded to a member who has legitimately answered that question by literally stating 'I don't care'. If you did not, or do not, care, then why post the question in the first place for any reason other than to bait or troll? To re-iterate - I am not claiming this is your intent but I highlighted this so that you can hopefully see how it can logically appear. If you reversed the positions, how would you feel? Shall I ask you questions all the the time and then dismiss any response you make with 'I don't care'? What positive discussion does that foster, regardless of intent? So, and to remind you I'm only advising you, consider your conduct and how it can be perceived. Next up - and I'm not sure why this seems to keep coming up as a point; So? Does it matter what YOU think regarding this? Yes, that is a very personal approach to start out that argument; but I think you struggle to see this from points of view other than your own, personal, one - and I will expand on why I've made my point like this. The population from which you draw to think you have not asked - nor is it necessarily their place or desire to openly complain or express that view. Why? Because they are here as members and not moderators (of which groups I belong to both, and have to strike a balance in the moderation aspect) - but the idea of moderators is that they are relied upon by the community to police and ensure it is as they expect and take action on their behalf, in order to ensure a good community that fosters productive discussion - at at least that is what I presume the majority of our members are here for. Take into account discussions had with us in private, by a variety of users, and that that avenue is always open to any member of the forum. Naturally I realise that my posts as a moderator disrupt the flow of a thread or conversation - which is why I usually tend to encourage further discussion of points either via PM, or those wishing to have a public audience or public matter of record, upon my visitor wall. Given this, can I ask that when it's obviously something I'm bringing up regarding conduct rather than the topic at hand - that we please try to pursue the above methods of communicating in response rather than adding it to the thread at hand in what has long already been at times, in my opinion, a rocky community for encouraging some to stick around. ________________________________________________________________ If you, or anyone else here, has a real major problem with my recent posts and intent to moderate - I'm going to give an option of deselecting me as a moderator. This is setting no precedent, nobody else within the N-E staffing are to be held account to the the same process in future, as this is an extension of my choice to 'resign' as a moderator. I'm literally doing this right here right now on this spot, having asked nobody else; so here it is: If you or anyone else has an issue with me remaining as a moderator of this forum or my moderation approach(past and very recent present, as I acknowledge a long period of quietness and absences) or even merely discuss this point openly then I'll give full reign for a topic to be posted within the week, quoting this latter section, seeking the democracy of the Nintendo sub-forum and its members. I've long been tired of trying to moderate and being told 'nobody else' or 'only you' in response and unwittingly inciting and inflaming petty battles due to underlying tensions - so if you feel or anyone is confident to do so then please post a thread with Nintendo sub-forum about my moderatorship and enquiring as to whether other members are happy to have me moderate and my interventions. Please quote this bolded and 'embiggened' text in doing so, so that other mods are aware of my proposal and the legitimacy of the thread.
  5. Black Panther (2018)

The world building of it is a point I've seen positively a couple of times now. Wakanda reminded me of this meme...
  6. Organ Donation: Opt Out?

I've seen this debate pop up quite regularly over the last few years (notably on The Wright Stuff, one of my guilty pleasures) - I'm personally quite in favour of an everyone in unless otherwise said - just make it obvious or maybe something you can opt out of at voting age etc. If it's national then can easily work it into a PSHE agenda and do the forms there even? One gets me is that some families actually manage to overrule the wishes of the deceased to stop organ donation. Personally if any part of my body can be used after my death to nurture further life then I'm more than behind it. Unlikely though, given how much abuse I've subjected my organs to
  7. So just been seeing Smash on Switch come up in a couple threads I was browsing recent and thought; hey! Why the hell not make a thread about one of the most beloved Nintendo franchises of all time! So, what do you think or hope we'll see with Smash Switch? Any concerns or worries? Good character ideas to have in the game? What about new items and assist trophies etc? Ideal stages you'd like to see? Any other things I've not even thought of you thinking about??
  8. Thanks for the sentiment in my favour. As for following things - I appreciate its difficult. A challenge for myself personally in trying to tackle this is there is not always a consistent pattern for what I'm looking at etc. Regarding latter point on thoughts of quoted posts - please put it all here. I didn't want to clog game related threads with this discussion - ofc if it's related to the threads in question I should be able to move that later too; moderation sometimes is also facilitating such things and not just chastisement/complaints! I'd essentially rather stuff was here than elsewhere for now, I'll gladly get Nintendo related comments into their threads as needed as appropriate. Not sure how applicable it is here but I don't want anyone feeling unsure of what to post where as a result of this thread etc.
  9. Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Available til the 1st March right? What HR do you have to be to do/join it? Don't actually know much at all about it other than I saw it was on the daily check-in when I checked in the other day! Re: graphics and switch capability, I personally think it looks lovely but most of that for me is due to its vibrancy than fine detail. However I do notice between areas sometimes usually when there's a flying thing or 5 in the distance of my eyeline they load slow flapping/dropping frames until I get closer. It could just be bad code/programming/optimisation/something else I don't actually understand but I do think to myself if I see that happening as it is now I can imagine it must be stretching the system at points.
  10. Black Panther (2018)

Personally, and I'm a big marvel fan, I found it less formulaic than the others. As for the Obama quote, I kind of agreed because it over-trivialised Obama as a real-world phenomenon, but let me make a point I've been shying away from. I'm not black. I used to say I'm brown. More recently I'm realising increasingly I don't really know *what* I am because the definition of my history and culture(plus being WIndian of recent times) has been very heavily erased or unportrayed etc. Why am I talking about it? Becuase I grew up, as a massive marvel fan, LOVING spider-man. Funnily enough it was via a Spiderman comic that in my mind must have been 60s published originally(I read in the 90s) I knew Black Panther. I spent my life from the late 80s until 2000s waiting for another spiderman film that I thought would finally be the superhero film I always needed. Rewind before that though there's a weird thing being a kid in the playground who, despite clearly being the most knowledgeable of the superhero game at hand, is not allowed to be any of the heroes not because he doesn't know them but because he's not white enough. That's a bit of an unexpected comment - but it's got a point. Now, that's essentially the lead-in for why Black Panther was, imo even just on one let alone many more levels, amazing. It's the same reason why Wonder Woman was great for women and young girls etc - it offered representation that is so often unseen for so much of society. Black Panther, for me even 'not being black' as it were, was....goddamn. It wasn't my culture strictly (though I see some parallels between it and what I'm currently sort of learning of Hinduism and a stratified society of the time, not to mention with that a reference to Lord Hanuman on behalf of M'Baku in the challenge) but to see something so less western and arguably more eastern like; was just really really amazing. It didn't feel tokenised of fethishised much if even at all, and the really strong cast and characterisation made that even more impactful. I spoke afterwards to my Ghanain friend I used to work with(we bonded over Zelda/SS coming out lel) and he really loved it too. All the culuture stuff etc, all the representation, he felt it was faithful, on point, and relevant - it felt like....in some ways I guess, a bit like a rediscovery. Its moral undertones and the juxtaposition of the greater good vs the individual etc and its recursive nature was interesting too imo. Killmonger's last line was a hard-hitting one imo given the above etc. It wasn't even just the black angle either though, the female representation was just fucking amazing too. I cannot tell you how much I loved the film almost for how it was everything that it wasn't what you expected it to be. 'Main' characterwise there's what, 2 white people? Strong leads wise there's what - 3-4 women for 2-3 on the protagonists' side? One of whom is an army general and the other a spy in her own right? One that is literally probably the smartest person in the whole nation/world re: vibranium and basically still a kid? As for unexpectedness normally I go into a film constantly overthinking and second-guessing - usually I'll see the eventually theme coming earlier than many(tho maybe cos I think too much :p) and I also get restless when films are super long etc - but this fucked me at every turn on my predictions until I gave up thinking of them, and I was also surprised in realising how late it was about 20 minutes after I'd gotten out of the cinema. For me, it was just a bit rare an experience - but I can absolutely see and understand mine would easily be different to very many others'.
  11. Unstamped quotes are my own; it's difficult to pull them in together but if needed I'll source them with links later. I've already address the counterpoints made here by you @dazzybee with; You assume your 'absence' to be evidence. You must take into account and recall that we as moderators often get approached in private; whereas you as a regular member probaly would not and even so it would not be in the same context. More than once I have had various members(and yes, they were quite varied) message different things since I obtained my modship. Thus, I, unlike you in that sense HAVE had a reflection on what the community wants and wishes; at least from a variety of individual PoVs. This is what you seem to lack, in seeing only your own perspective, and not taking into account others. Some members can discourage others from posting or commenting certain things publicly - do you think they will be coming to you in private to express these concerns, or to the moderators and admins? An unobserved occurrence is not evidence of something not existing - it simply leaves it remaining to many an extent as an unknown. As bolded, there is a job and responsibility on a moderator(who again, should be able to exist impartially in role of moderation yet be both moderator and member, as a human). This does, whether accepted or not, give me privilege to both information brought in private; but also to call detrimental behaviour in a thread as a point of moderatorship without needing to be detrimental to that thread. This in itself has led to this thread's creation. I will reference again - as a mod I was partial to many members approaching me about the state of the forums. Some wanting to leave for a variety of reasons and members. I do not know if you can't quite get it or how many times I'll have to say it - but as a mod I do believe I am partial to far more information from our members on the whole than you are, generally. I have had a few come to me in a variety of methods of communicaton, and some beg me not to escalate concerns because they did not wish to cause a fuss. Tell me again how that's the ideal and best community, considering I was here in the glory days of the WiiU? I saw also a comment directed at someone about loyalty - I'm gonna be real honest here when I say I won't deny I think some members appreciate me and think me ok, but I do not moderate on loyalty. I expected none in return either. I did not canvass or have any particular relationships with anyone who posted in my defence. To what do you think this loyalty is owed, or from where it is born, or even to what benefit? If you break the rules you break the rules - and some in fact know via a harder means that I won't break them for them either. I moderate exactly as a moderator not as a member - I post as a member when otherwise not clear. On that note - I should tell you maybe(or others here) - I never obtained my modship through any sort of neoptism. In fact when I got it, being the massive saddo I am, it was a real notable moment in my life and something I still hold close to my heart. After obtaining the privilege I was funnily enough able to see how it had come about in the BTS discussions - the proposal and discussions had around it were not ones I expected. In fact if anything, it was something I never considered to be likely, as I haven't always been short of controversy as a member. Yet an impartial judgement was made, and supported, as to my suggestion to be a moderator. It's actually that which still drives me to try and be a good one, and actually do something with it. I tried it not long after I got estahblished here too - with 'Let's Talk...' etc - not for myself but because I saw the problems I hoped to solve, and to avoid all those people who left during the WiiU times from actually then doing so. Funnily enough I got hilariously called some sort of dictator there too iirc. Please see above. If I am to act as a moderator - it is important for us both to have a public presence but also for points of moderation to be made publicly, as otherwise what use is it to others? If all moderation was done behind close doors would we not see mistakes repeated under a guise or defence of ignorance? I can't pretend ofc to be as refined as the judiciary here - but there is a reason why we have an open justice system in our societies. Many worldwide systems draw from the same parent one too(the English system) though the arguments as to why that is are very complex - I'm not here to argue about the nature of justice on a forum not subject to it. For anyone who's forgotten the age old line just because it isn't touted any more - posting is a privilege, not a right. Additionally I have highlighted where I see the logical contradiction in addition to acknowledging doubt - I took not definitive action except a light and casual word. I have yet to see either @dazzybee or yourself @Ronnie explain why what I explained could not be perceived as it were(ie asking a question and within 6 hours literally saying you don't care about the same subject asked). Be careful here Ronnie. How many times have you been PM'd before(no limit on time) and wilfully ignored them? I'll force you to die by your own sword if you truly wish to draw it. Again, I must moderate. I may type at length, but I wish to be clear and comprehensive in order to avoid any doubt in doing so. In fact, the ongoing ignorance in examples such as yourself and dazzybee despite simple interventions, such as what occured here in the first place, are what lead to far more comprehensive interventions. To come back to an earlier point I would again reference legal systems and their comprehensiveness. I am not personally in any way legally trained nor qualified, but I draw a lot from the systems as I personally see a very fine and rare logic to them. We are not them, but I try to moderate from their example. It's merely my own style, however. No other mod should necessarily be expected to act the same or differently, as long as they're upholding the idea of ensuring the community is one that feels welcoming and comfortable for all; regardless of point of view.If you have an issue with the wordiness of my moderation posts then don't read them but face the consequences. However I currently act as a moderator(and feel it's generally clear which posts are ones of moderation if not made explicit) and this is part of what you will have to accept being in this community. If they're 'excessively long and over-bearing' for you then that's your issue; I won't sacrifice my clarity or portrayal of points merely to save you a bit of effort in comprehending something actually quite quick and simple. As for heavy-handedness - I've specifically in this instance been demonstrably not so, no? Could I have been heavier handed? What is the heaviest handest you think I could have been, and the lightest? Draw your scale that you're placing me on if you've confidence in the point. I doubt you will - because you realise I'll show you exactly how light-handed I have, in fact, been in this instance. In line with the above comment I didn't respond within the thread at the time, but rest assured you and all others who did continue to comment are fine. I did not do the tidiest job of making my point and cleaning threads; I have less desktop browser access and the mobile browser can be quite temperamental sometimes. I'm sure I saw this earlier being the 'Let's Talk....' thread. I did consider it tbh so I'm right with you, however I though given the time passed I'd give this a fresh airing on a slightly changed theme.
  12. EDIT: Woops this was a total error for deletion but I might leave it here in case I want a post in this location later...
  13. Right. Getting used to doing all this with new forum layout but this is an extension of another thread. For those in expectance - it'll be good to go when unlocked. For those confused as to what it is - it'll be good to go when unlocked Once done I'll make this into a better post. TL;DR; - if you're reading this right now watch this space all will change shortly.
  14. Ok well another great way to illustrate my point of not being listened to when I made a lengthy response specifically asking this not be done in this thread but a different one. I can't cut these now. I'll go home later and do so on my laptop - feel free to continue both debates but rest assured all that this will not be the overriding theme of this thread as I'll split them into a seperate topic later.
  15. General Switch Discussion

Even 9 months out vs PS4 it'll have tons of content. Saying that I'll be interested for Payday to see how it compares in review to the PS4 counterpart(as I have experience of that). I hadn't played for ages but fired it up a few weeks back after my HDD upgrade as mate got it so we did some 4p - I completely agree with you on wondering about communication; I imagine it can be done without it(people play with randoms after all) but with my mates and the missions we did having not played to be familiar this time communication was really key. I spent one whole mission not even understanding what the hell was going on/we were doing, and we spent another not understanding how to escort a guy. The game is kinda unforgiving in its continuous nature(which is what makes it great) but it's one of the reasons you also, imo, need excellent methods for communication.
  16. Haha, ive given up even pretending I have a 'back log' now because I know I simply just will not get to it. I do think you'll probably enjoy this though - even if I critiques the games individually for my taste, I can't deny they certainly fit very nicely into a 'for fun' category. There's an enjoyable mindlessness to Burnout similar to what some other games offer - the sort of thing you can kinda just play but not get too bothered about or hung up on, or at least that's how I feel about it. Were this B3 or Revenge I'd maybe be on it for 30, but as it is Paradise was good but not the best. I honestly do think I'm on the fence with it though - if there's enough ps4 players here on on the regular it's gonna be a big temptation for me(not until April though).
  17. I enjoyed Revenge, and Paradise but less so by each iteration. I really really missed the chatoic fun of traffic check from 3 in subsequent games, and whilst Revenge had the excellent iirc chaos/crash mode(later free form in paradise) I felt the games loved a bit more towards a Need for Speed sort of feel. Burnout for me is only minimally about racing - the really cherries it offers is it's ridiculous OTTness instead. Great twist on an old genre. As a result I won't get this til it's 30-20 or less, just cos whilst I definitely will enjoy it and get playtime I'm not sure it's retail level for me. Ofc, that may very well change depending on the online chuckles of folks here given the install base we have of folks on ps4.
  18. Nintendo Switch paid online coming 2018

Funnily enough, my phone autocorrected the word 'facetiously' yet considering your response has requoted the incorrect word I must wonder whether you've actually just rather well but unintentionally illustrated my point perfectly. I want them to get it right as well; the problem I see is that the more I look at this - from the most likely points of view - I can only see notable trouble. In the grand scheme of things in a business sense it won't kill them, but it's not going to necessarily do any further favours for their brand amongst certain groups.
  19. Have you ever played any of the Burnout games? I got into it a bit from Burnout 3, then Revenge, then this. Didn't rate this quite as highly though it was something new and still quite enjoyable. I'll probably jump in at a lower price later in the year though.
  20. General Switch Discussion

I did wonder if they'd do a Switch version - sure if this was a ps360 title it'd be easily portable for Switch? Or not? Any official words etc?
  21. Nintendo Switch paid online coming 2018

Apologies if the capitals offended you @Ronnie, as stated in the post I was cutting together many little bits and for that one I used capitals in place of bold because it wasn't bolding properly. My point with it not being usual is - and I think you willfully choose to ignore this - is it hasn't been done anything like Xbox or PSN's online. Where else has given an undefined limited free trial that has gone on for this long with such little detail about the service both at the outset/inception and still uncertainty so now(also highlighted by Goron's point of shifting estimates for delivery of said service). As for the rest of it you come across wilfully factitious for the sake of arguing and cherry picking points to take an argument in another direction because it seems you struggle to argue reasonably and rationally against the points(made also and probably best by Julius Caesar in the last few pages). I see little point responding to most of those points because it seems a fruitless excercise; I don't think you're truly here to discuss and grow in sensible debates, rather to argue to the death Nintendo's faultlessness. In addition, nobody has answered my question yet - is the messaging being pushed through the actual switch console and system, and if not why not? Surely that is the most important and sensible avenue for it? Are they doing it? It has notifications no, is it regularly notifying users of the changes coming?
  22. Nintendo Switch paid online coming 2018

When I saw you were calling me on my shit I thought that was gonna be a decent dressing down on things I missed It's such a shame cos I want this thing for the price sorta tho probs lower but I too, kinda like the ones who argued about reward for loyalty, am just too burned by them. I don't believe I'm feeling entitled - as I happily pay for a service on an alternate system which I feel is value for money. If I'm not entitled there why would I be entitled here? It's simply just what's being offered and whether it is value for money for me. The problem is these relationships are so very rarely linear it can be difficult to think about - but the less appealing it is the more damage I believe it'll do in a sort of exponential decay sort of way. I still think on absolute numbers the Switch will do well but on relative comparisons it really will not look as good.
  23. Nintendo Switch paid online coming 2018

'Will' is the future, and as you yourself have already acknowledged - Nintendo are being rather ambiguous in places which gives them great wiggle room. You cannot claim their ambiguity and certainty at the same time, surely? If it's pointless assessing the value before we know the details then why should any of us who are on the fence invest in a Switch? You do realise the actual contradictions to your own points that you're making that actually support those suggesting this is a bad business decision for them? You speak about to YOU which is, as has been said by quite a few, completely valid. Yet what about the people who AREN'T you? You can talk about them circulating information - do you really and truly believe every single Switch user or parent of a juvenile Switch user out there is aware of that information? I don't own a Switch myself - are they splashing this information up upon the Switch systems themselves? That's really the most appropriate place to be doing so if they haven't already, and if they are they should be CLEAR about it; not ambiguous. (forgive me for split messages, it isn't easy getting these written and edited together atm) You say they've been messaging it clearly - so why doesn't my mate know? Does he know about free trials otherwise? Yes he does - but they're really clear at the point of signup and this guy is no damn idiot(though thank you for trying to attack him personally and paint him as such) - I already explained his expertise to you. He's very aware of software, licensing etc - yet the way Nintendo have presented this HAS NOT BEEN THE USUAL APPROACH AND THAT IS A PROBLEM. Don't bury your head in the sand - recognise their faults and think about what or why it is bad, recognise not everyone is you. Where did you find out about the fact it was a trial Ronnie? When did you buy your Switch? Did the system itself or its documentation tell you? I'm not asking my questions to be facetious either btw, I genuinely am asking because I want to know. I didn't quote Australian figures because I didn't have them to go on, nor would I use them in comparison to the current Euro approximation(which at current exchange is actually far closer to £17 than £12, let alone economic uncertainty with Brexit) - you're very fine to paint your figures to massage your points; but you seem to find it so difficult to be objective. Why present a self-estimate figure such as £12 as a fact, without even giving that disclaimer? Tell me how you feel when you go to the shop tomorrow and find everything to actually be 40% more expensive than you anticipate (in fact I've just seen Ike even do an AUS conversion coming in at £17 too which surely moots that silly argument as well?) 'That's all we have to go on at the moment' btw is exactly my point - it's ridiculous this system, a product, a retail item has been out for 18 months and we still don't actually know everything about what it's going to be. That's good business sense? That's good for Nintendo? That's beneficial? You genuinely believe it's good for them? Also there's a really big difference between charging for a service at the point of inception, and later introducing a charge retrospectively. I suspect you'll argue to say it isn't retrospective - but it is because it was not actually defined from the outset. Even still right now, at this moment in time, you can not tell me the entirety of this service and/or what it will entail. That means it surely will be retrospective, no? Actually gonna leave it there and catch up on the thread a bit more before further responses; didn't see how far back behind I was when I started.
  24. Nintendo Switch paid online coming 2018

Please have some regard for yourself dazzy, I know you're not and I'm not looking to come down on this - but you HAVE to surely see how easily this is justification for a trolling/flamebaiting accusation when two such polar opposite statements are posted not that many hours apart. Don't get me wrong though - I agree with you it WOULD be stupid business sense to split the service into two halves, but it's ALSO imo stupid business sense to suddenly charge for a free service halfway through that I am pretty much 100% confident will get complaints from consumers who will say they did not realise this was going to happen and why did the game they could play for free yesterday suddenly become not free etcetc. I can't say I've got a sensible middle ground solution between both of these stupid ideas either. Your whole post was great but I wanted to respond to this. A few months back I was at my mate's who has a Switch and we played a bit, then I came into the conversation of why I didn't want one before knowing about online etcetc. I explained the issues I perceived with a variety of their previous implementations of online - but when I said that one day he'll have to pay to play online for Splatoon I think he genuinely thought I was a fucking idiot because to his mind that idea was so ridiculous. This isn't a child or an ignorant parent btw, this is a grown man who's very good with his tech, almost lifelong gamer (especially Nintendo), and does more networking and tech shit than I'll ever do. I haven't brought the point up again since (at the time the website was still ambiguous) but I'll wait until it occurs and see what he thinks then. For me though, I am so burnt by their previous online implementations that until I have a thorough and solid understanding of it, I cannot commit to the cost of the console at RRP. A good deal may yet tempt me (as I'll translate savings into online and accessories probably) and I do really want the system - but I just cannot commit. I think we may see a drop in the rate of sales of Switch (though it will still continue to sell positively) once the online service launches fully. I just hope for Nintendo's sake it isn't anything that hits them too hard, because the Switch has a lot of interesting potential and things going for it compared to the WiiU. From where did you find the £12 figure? And can I ask what you will do if it's £12.01? or £13? £15? £20? Afaik there is no current information for the price in £, have you extrapolated from currency exchange and assumed it'll work like that? I think history has shown Nintendo do not particularly tend to take that approach.
  25. Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Just wanted to say thanks for this, I keep pulling up the forum and coming back to these pics as quick guides now lol. Trying to figure out what's what for bounties etc. Gamewise I'm still low level yet somehow never get bored at all. I think I'm HR8 atm and just did a quick hunt on the Leggy with my mate in Japan yesterday(I love her and she's amazing but a total MH nerd so Japan sucks for gaming together) and Psychick and my mates mate over here - multiplayer with a real squad is fucking fun! Admittedly a wee bit easier but goddamn that's what's so lovely! Ripping the ever living shit out of a monster within minutes that'd take you about half hour otherwise - belissimo! The game's breadth is overwhelming at times, but also kinda reassuring - how wrong can you go when there's so many potentially 'right' options? Now I'm a bit more familiar I've been utilising the SOS function on the boards a bit more to randomly help folks and get a bit more(literal) experience. I also figured the Glaive out a bit better(I'm an absolute fucking idiot) and managing to hit my triple buffs within about 5 hits of a familiar monster on each encounter now. A few are a bit tricky and I get doubles then need to work for the third - but fuck me it's like having a whole new weapon now I've figured that shit out. I'm not very good with accuracy/actually hitting the monster, and I really need to move off the bone tree(see above for not progressing enough and not getting the right mats) cos the sharpness disadvantage really sucks for some monsters. But yeah. Basically this game somehow seems to both keep my interest and also keeps getting better too.
