  1. The Legend of Zelda's 35th Anniversary

OK, so we've established that Nintendo isn't doing much for the Zelda 35th anniversary. So with that in mind I am going to make up for that... with nearly 2 and a half hours of Zelda Youtube content. This is my personal Zelda gaming diary in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the series. There are a few slight scene discrepencies where I was trying to make some last minute edits but more or less everything is in place. 2. Your 2021 Gaming Diary

So I realise I haven't updated here for a while in terms of gaming diary. The main thing I've been doing is working on a massive video for the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. So naturally I have been playing a lot of Zelda games. Mostly the home console games for recording footage, I pretty much played every 3D Zelda in some capacity after playing Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and finally Breath of the Wild. When coming back to Breath of the Wild I realised that I was taking massive damage towards the end as I didn't bother to find all the Great Fairies Fountains and upgrade all my equipment. So I was losing about half my health from a single hit from Guardians. However I managed to get some Guardian Armour upon returning to the game and after extensively foraging for Guardian tools I upgraded my armour to the point where my total defence is now 61 from the 12 it was previously. Such a massive improvement, I can now take on some of the tougher enemies in the game without getting completely wiped out in one hit. Wish I'd known about all this sooner! That being said, I'm going to be focusing on finishing the video as it's in the home stretch now!
  3. Questions

Not sure if this is the right thread for this or not but I'm getting warnings from my McAfee WebAdvisor on this site saying "We tested this page and blocked content that comes from potentially dangerous or suspicous sites. Allow this content only if you're sure it comes from safe sites". Never got these notifications before on the site, have malicious adds snuck into the system or something?
  4. Metroid Dread

Hopefully they don't lock the hardest difficulty behind the amiibo this time though given this is Nintendo and what they did with Skyward Sword recently I don't have much faith that they won't just repeat what they did before.
  5. Metroid Dread

So this is kind of awkward. Last year I did a Metroid Prime 3 LP and I covered the "Dread" scan in question and went into detail on the history of Metroid Dread. Following yesterday I felt I had to follow it up with this...
  6. Super hyped for Metroid Dread right now. I know having a heavy stealth element to it (yeah, Metal Gear Metroid and all that) is not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I have sort of come around on stealth in games as after all it is in multiple Zelda games which got me to finally commit to Metal Gear Solid 2 and finish that, Hopefully this game will have some good map design, now that Mercury Steam aren't bound by an old game's map design they can really create something that hopefully interlinks. That being said, it might be hard to top Hollow Knight in terms of map design and I'm not expecting that kind, but something close enough. As for the rest? Kazuya in Tekken is good. We needed another Bandai Namco representative in there aside from Pac-Man and we also needed another Fighting game character since this pass hadn't had one yet. Bandai Namco has two fighting game franchises and while I would have preferred Yoshimitsu to be the other representative so that he can represent Tekken and Soulcalibur I can appreciate SC isn't a particularly well selling series and Tekken is the more iconic fighting game of the two, so having a lead character from Tekken makes perfect sense. So now we've got three of the biggest fighting game franchises represented in Smash, all that's missing is really Mortal Kombat. Though I hope Kazyua's inclusion can also lead to perhaps one or two Soulcalibur songs in Smash in the "other" section since I prefer that soundtrack over the Tekken tunes which will inevitably turn up. Added to that we finally got a new trailer for Breath of the Wild 2, Super Monkey Ball and Advance Wars are coming to Switch and a new Warioware. While everyone else floundered with their presentations Nintendo have seemingly benefitted from nearly a decade of doing this format and they brought their A game here.
  7. Metroid Dread

I had heard rumours of a new Metroid game being made by Mercury Steam but I didn't think that it would actually be Metroid Dread of all things. This game has immediately shot to the top of my most anticipated games list, will definitely be getting it when it comes out in October. Game looks solid although it does remind me of Metal Gear combined with Resident Evil 3 with the E.M.M.I robot.
  8. Don't care what else was in that Direct, Metroid Dread single handely won E3 for Nintendo for me.
  9. Think it's fair to say Obsidian had the right idea about the current state of E3 with that Outer Worlds 2 trailer!
  10. In reality we all know that Nintendo might just prop up their own Direct with the next Smash Bros. character. I hope not though...

  12. Well, Capcom pretty much just said to start with what they're going to be showing in this show...
  13. Football Season 2020-21

I'm sorry... the match is restarting at 20:30? What?
  14. Football Season 2020-21

Got to say, I feel Finland are very unlucky here too. First major international tournament and in the first game this happens.
  15. Football Season 2020-21

There;'s a lot of false info going around, apparently that screenshot is from a Spurs game a few weeks ago. Still, hope he's alright. EDIT: Nope, this is a real image.
  16. Good luck getting all the resources to look right together, there's about 27 different game series referenced in there!
  17. I'm going to make a prediction for a game that will get announced at E3. It will be a game where you have to collect the fifteen plot McGuffins, defeat Sephiroth, ring the two Bells of Awakening, collect the seven Chaos Emeralds, catch Mewtwo, get revenge on the Mechon, defeat the sixteen colossi and then go on to destroy all machine lifeforms, do a barrel roll, find Captain Qwark and also find the Door to the Light while you're at it, spare Asgore, escape Deepnest, find the stolen banana horde and also Coco's missing laptop battery, remember all the lines for an opera, find the legendary Master Sword, Soul Edge and the X-Blade, save Yonah and then also save Peach and Zelda while you're at it, exterminate all the Metroids, find the inverted castle and also the location of the Architect and the three dreamers, protect Kamiki Village, turn the game console off now, defeat Bowser, Ganon, Ridley, King K. Rool, Orochi, Kefka, Flowey, Dr. Eggman, Dr. Neferious, Gwyn, the Hollow Knight, Sans, Dracula, Malos, Mother Brain, Big Boss, Xehanort, Dr. Wily, King Dedede, the Enchantress, Mustache Girl, Andross, Lord Brevon, Grand Master Luxard and his Sony PSVita and the Shadowlord and become the Pokemon League Champion. And if you want to do all that plus receive exclusive in-game content, you can buy our premium season Battle Pass Plus for the low low price of $199.99 It's going to be the hardest game ever!
  18. Games You Never Played

Nowadays I am going out of my way to try and play every classic game that appeals to me but in spite of my gaming library having encompassed over 200 games the fact that I only got involved in gaming from 2000 onwards and that was only on handhelds means that I missed several retro games, some of which I went back for but others due to licensing issues I never got around to play. Here are some well known games that I have never played or only experienced over the internet in my favoured format, one massive list: Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble Star Fox F-Zero Pilotwings Final Fantasy V Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Banjo-Kazooie Goldeneye 007 Conkey's Bad Fur Day Jet Force Gemini Banjo-Tooie Blast Corps Diddy Kong Racing Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy Tactics Chrono Cross Xenogears Soul Blade Metal Gear Solid Resident Evil Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 3 Pokemon Snap Pokemon Puzzle League Pokemon Puzzle Challenge Super Smash Bros. Hey You! Pikachu! F-Zero X Paper Mario Mario Party Mario Party 2 Mario Party 3 Pokemon Colosseum Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (Yeah, despite being into Pokemon I never really got the home console stuff for it, by the time I got a Gamecube my interest in Pokemon had become main games only) Chibi-Robo Pikmin Pikmin 2 Resident Evil 4 Super Monkey Ball 2 Viewtiful Joe 2 Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut Star Fox Adventures Star Fox Assault Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Mario Party 4 Mario Party 5 Mario Party 6 Splinter Cell Jak II Jak III Sly Cooper Sly 2 Sly 3 Grand Theft Auto III Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Burnout 3: Takedown Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Halo: Combat Evolved Halo 3 (My experience of Halo 2 was only in multiplayer on a friend's copy in case anyone was curious.) Advance Wars (I was never really interested in strategy games) Advance Wars 2 Fire Emblem (Same deal, though I ended up maining Roy and Ike in Smash) Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (having gotten into Castlevania recently I will be crossing that one off my list at some point!) F-Zero Maximum Velocity Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team Star Fox Command Pokemon Ranger (all of them) Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Space Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 Uncharted Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Sonic & the Black Knight Sonic Colours Sonic Generations Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Sonic Lost World The Last of Us Hyrule Warriors Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Fire Emblem Awakening Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney (plus sequels) Bravely Default Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair Demon Souls Dark Souls II Dark Souls III Bloodborne I think that's about it for now, I'm sure there are others. Note that I haven't played some of these games simply due to a lack of interest in their particular genres.
  19. I first heard about E3 from reading CUBE magazine back in the early 2000s. I was intruiged by this "E3" conference where CUBE were talking about the 2003 conference and how it normally is where big game announcements were being made. Those magazines helped me to get more involved in gaming culture rather than just playing games. A few years later I was starting to browse the internet on a regular basis (in about 2006) thanks to the advent of broadband and reading further issues of CUBE and NOM had got me hyped for the Revolution and wanted to know more about its upcoming games. 2006 was also the year that the rights to the official Nintendo magazine transferred to Future Publishing and then we got ONM out of it which I had bought a couple of issues of to read. I eventually found myself browsing their website for updates on gaming news and eventually followed E3 on a semi live basis for the first time, when we learned about the rename to Nintendo Wii for the first time. So yeah, I guess 2006 was the first E3 I really followed live, good one to pick from a Nintendo perspective though I didn't really watch the other press conferences at the time as I wasn't really interested in other consoles. So I missed Sony's infamously bad press conference. From that moment on I would be watching E3 live every year, especially after getting involved in forums. I was online to witness Nintendo's E3 2008 where they basically said "screw hardcore gamers, we're going with the casuals" and this was met with a huge outburst reaction from people saying that they were going to abandon Nintendo consoles from that point on. In many ways, I see that conference as a defining moment in Nintendo's history, they saw the sales figures of Wii Fit and basically doubled down on showing that sort of stuff, with "Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City" being their designated hardcore game even though I've alwayts seen that as a game with more casual appeal. Meanwhile at the Xbox 360 conference Bethesda revealed Fallout 3. It's no wonder a lot of people might have been interested in jumping ship at that point. I have started watching every conference where possible, including the Xbox conferences just to see what's going on on those platforms even though I know I won't be playing those games any time soon. Sony's conferences were often way too late at night for me so I'd either catch up or pull a late nighter to be able to watch the conferences live or have them on as sound in the background while I was in bed. Nowadays I am cautious over getting too hyped over a game as said games have never really met my expectations (looking at you Twilight Princess), that being said if they show a Metroid trailer of any sort then I'm going to be excited.
  20. Your 2021 Gaming Diary

It sounds like the development on that game was pretty Ruff.
  21. Your 2021 Gaming Diary

Let's be honest, the original Ratchet & Clank games on PS2 are way better than the newer ones. The original games had something else that kind of made them stand out... The remake is a perfectly fine game but being made to tie in with a movie lets it down. The original game and storyline is WAY better. They so badly butchered Drek and the infobot commercials were some of the best parts about that original game. Anyway, regarding gaming lately I've been working on this bumper multi hour Zelda video that covers the entire franchise for its 35th anniversary.. As a result I need to capture footage so I am currently playing through again everyone's favourite Zelda game Yes that's right, I'm playing Skyward Sword. Just got Farore's Courage again and intending to play until Ancient Cistern before switching over to a completed file to get the rest of the footage.
  22. The Best Gaming Music Ever.

While it's kind of video game music but not at the same time I've found myself listening to a bunch of SiIvergunner remixes recently. While a lot of them are remixes of the same songs over and over again with different soundfonts there are some surprisingly good ones...
  23. General Retro Discussion

I remember when Kate Gray was writing for ONM she got a lot of stick on the ONM forums for her articles in the magazine... I guess things haven't changed much now!
  24. Your 2021 Gaming Diary

With Nier done and dusted and its similarity to Zelda games it got me in the mood to play some classic Zelda games again. That and the fact that I'm working on a big massive video video going over every Zelda game for the 35th anniversary! Played through Ocarina of Time to the halfway point and then switched to my finished file to fight the final boss again, did the same thing for Majora's Mask and did something similar for Wind Waker except that I continued my pre-existing file. Now doing the same thing as OoT for Twilight Princess. I must admit I had forgotten a lot of the early stuff in the game including the fact that the game has a Link's Awakening style shop where if you don't pay for the potions the bird pecks you to death!
  25. Your 2021 Gaming Diary

OK, so after my last update I've gone through Endings A-D of NieR: Replicant... not that I can really screenshot to prove right now other than my trophies because... Only so much I can actually copy from Twitter but I thought you all might want to take a look at this guy... This part also saw me screenshot it. Now, in order to talk about the most interesting part of the game, the story, I have to go into Spoiler Mode. So... here we go... I haven't seen the brand new Ending E yet but its supposed to tie the game more in with Automata so I will be getting on with that at some point.
