  4. G20 - Meltdown in the City

These pictures are awesome http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/gallery/2009/apr/01/g20-protest?picture=345366776 It looks like it was a hell of a good day. I just wish Rage Against The Machine were there throwing out some tunes, to get the blood pumping. I'm glad RBS got smashed up. And why the fuck shouldn't people be pissed? Stupid bankers who lent too much money have made this recession much worse than I would have been. If I had lost my job, been declared bankrupt and had no home to live in. I'd be down there making my point. The only people I feel sorry for is the Police. Their job is to keep the peace but they are at the forefront of this. I saw one clip on the news where protesters had managed to surround one police on his own and were taunting him, he must have been pooping it.
  5. Hi Becky! Sorry to hear about what you have gone through. I have been in a similar position. I moved to Lincoln for a Graphic Design job, I worked for a small company who had been producing a magazine for around a year. I was there for 6 and 1/2 weeks and never got paid, then company shut down. There was also a few other things which I don't want to go into here but its was bad. So I'm in a new city, with rent, bills, council tax etc to pay. As soon as I heard about the company closing I panicked loads. I went down to the job centre and couldn't sign on for JSA because I hadn't paid enough contributions within the last tax year. I was a student you IDIOTS! I was entitled to claim money for Council Tax and my Rent, although I never went through with that, but that would have covered a massive chunk of the Tax and Rent. The best thing to do is get a job, any job ASAP, to get some money coming in. In the mean time cut all pleasure expenditure down to a minimum. I scrapped by for another 2 months, until I managed to get a job. It sucked so hard. I'm currently working in retail, which is killing me, but I'm almost back on my feet (finance wise) I've been doing a freelance work on the side, seen as Graphic Design jobs are few and far between in Lincoln. Treat job hunting as a job, work at it for 8 hours a day. Tweaking your CV, checking Papers/Websites/Shop Windows and widen your scope in terms of what job you are able to do. You can always look for your ideal job, once you have a job. Keep positive and keep your friends and family close, they will help lift your sprits when your down, and allow you to think positively which will help you find your next job. PS. What to start a Graphics Studio? http://www.zookai.co.uk
  6. CSS Problem

    I've been designing a new website for a small company. I'm not super confident working with CSS (it's my first time) I've been editing the CSS using a web developers toolbar in Firefox, so I can see on the fly changes. And whilst I'm editing the CSS the website looks around 80% complete and I was surprised how easy it was. When I close the Edit CSS window the page then displays like this My CSS /* RESET */ html, body, div, span, applet, object, iframe, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, blockquote, pre, a, abbr, acronym, address, big, cite, code, del, dfn, em, font, img, ins, kbd, q, s, samp, small, strike, strong, sub, sup, tt, var, dl, dt, dd, ol, ul, li, fieldset, form, label, { margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; outline: 0; font-size: 100%; vertical-align: baseline; background: transparent; } body { line-height: 1; } ol, ul { list-style: none; } blockquote, q { quotes: none; } blockquote:before, blockquote:after, q:before, q:after { content: ''; content: none; } /* remember to define focus styles! */ :focus { outline: 0; } a { text-decoration: none; color: black; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline; } /* MAIN STYLES */ html { background: url(images/background.png) } #container { width: 905px; background: grey margin: 3em auto; } #header { overflow: hidden; height: 100% /* NEEDED IE6 */ } #header img { float: left; } #nav { float: right; position: relative; } #nav img.navimg { top: 50px; } #maincontainer { margin-top: 0px; overflow: hidden; background: url(images/mainmid.png) } #maincontent { float: left; width: 550px; margin-left: 38px; margin-top: 10px; } #maincontent p { color: #818181; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px; margin-right: 38px; line-height: 14pt; text-align: justify; } #rightcontent { margin-top: 10px; } #rightcontent p { color: #818181; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px; margin-right: 38px; line-height: 14pt; text-align: justify; } Why is the page displayed in two different way even though they are accessing the same CSS file?
  7. I love your photo wall, the spacing in between the pictures makes it look uniformly awesome! That big canvas print is sexual. I need to get more Artwork / Photography up around my house!

  11. Earth Hour - 8:30PM

Spending money on electricity isn't fun. I'd much rather save some money and be able to spend it on fun things. Therefore I try and keep as many lights off as possible and use energy saving light bulbs where possible.
  12. Earth Hour - 8:30PM

    Awesome I'm sooooo taking part!
  13. A Tour of My Flat! On viewing my performance, I do stare at objects for a long time before saying what they are..... I think the phone/router took a while. I have a small brain.
  14. The University Thread 08/09

I'm not sure what city / uni your at but those prices are high. Thats more rent than I pay (£425 per month) for a 2 bedroom flat in a converted mill. I've seen 3 bedroom houses to rent for around £450 per month which is what your paying.
  15. CSS Problem

    Thanks, I added that grey to allow me to get a feel for the space of the Div (just incase that confused anyone) Hmmmm I've just deleted the whole of my CSS file and typed in the following into Dreamweaver and it has updated with the background. When I place a # in front of the body then it doesn't work. Should the # be there? body { background-image: url('http://zookai.co.uk/images/background.png'); background-repeat: repeat }
  16. CSS Problem

Yep I've tried Safari and it appears the same Thanks, I've just realised that the are some semi-colons. But it's strange how is appears to display it correctly whilst using Edit CSS of the web developers tool bar. The background (not sure if this will work, in terms of the repeat function) Main Mid Top (The Curve) HTML <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Paul Todd - Indepentant Opticians Lincoln</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/default.css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header"> <img src="images/logo.png" alt="Paul Todd Opticians" /> <div id="nav"> <img src="images/home.png" alt="Home" class="navimg"/> <img src="images/eyecare.png" alt="Eyecare" class="navimg" /> <img src="images/services.png" alt="Service" class="navimg" /> <img src="images/staff.png" alt="Staff" class="navimg" /> <img src="images/contact.png" alt="Contact" class="navimg" /> <img src="images/maintop.png" alt="Top" class="maintop"/> </div><!--end nav--> </div><!--end header--> <div id="maincontainer"> <div id="maincontent"> <img src="images/introduction.png" alt="Introduction" /> <p>3rd of March 1983 was my big day. I had decided I had had enough of dealing with patients on the terms of the large multiples who I had trained with and worked for since 1975. It had been whilst working in Southampton after returning from Australia back-packing that I made up my mind about what I wanted to try and achieve, an independent practice that listened to each person as an individual and gave them good professional advice about what was available to satisfy their personal requirements. This has always remained my ethos over the years. I have had to ensure that I am always up to date regarding products and equipment, that in itself has given me the confidence to ensure my patients were given the best products at the best price. I have often been courted by manufacturers to only deal solely in their products, but have always felt like it was selling my soul to the devil. I like to sleep at night knowing I can buy what I want, from where I want - that’s why I became independent! Over the years we have carved out a niche in the market place for patients who suffer from ‘Visual Stress’ (I much prefer that heading to ‘Dyslexia’) and helped many hundreds of both children and adults with their difficulties in reading and writing that they experience with this condition. Some come to us from overseas (Denmark, Sweden, Italy to name a few) so word spreads far and wide about our services! The years have changed the business and I feel that we are nearly at what I wanted to achieve 26 years ago. I’m afraid my standards are high and I do not think I will ever get there - you never know, maybe one day! </p> <img src="images/footer.png" alt="Footer" /> </div><!--end maincontent--> <div id="rightcontent"> <img src="images/latestnews.png" alt="Latest News" /> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. 17. How was your day?

Ewwww that song is hideously bad. I hate it when it gets stuck in my head.
  18. I've just been on Youtube and watch a selection of Official Music Videos.
  19. Best Anti Virus to Buy?

I've heard really good things about NOD32.

ISO is your film speed, in low light situations this needs to be set quite high. Although the higher you go the more noise you will notice. These settings range from about 100-6400. So make sure yours isn't sitting in the low 100's. And you shutter speed is measured in fractions such as 1/1000 1/500 1/250 1/125 1/60 1/30 1/15 1/8 1/4 1/2 1 s For example 1/8 is an 8th of a second. If your shutter is open for to long then you will notice a blur. But if it's not open for long enough then you won't let enough light in. You need to ensure that your ISO is fairly high and your shutter is nice and quick if your taking pictures in low lighting. Or switch it to sports mode and that does it automatically. With out knowing the cameras layout it's hard to tell you exactly what buttons to press, but thats the general theory behind it all. If your unsure, check those instructions. I just went out and bought NFG's new CD. Whoop!
  21. Post Your Purchases

What is the ISO and your shutter speed at when you take these pictures? I remember being on a night out and a friend was moaning that there camera was taking blurry shots and was getting frustrated with his camera. I changed a few settings and it was perfect.
  22. Rate the last film you saw

AGREED! I do hate it when people ramble on about how great this film is. It isn't it's just stupid. Sure, lets go rescue this girl in an area of the city in which the monster roams, in a building which has half collapsed. Oh BTW my brother died, but I don't care.
