  1. The House of The Dead: Overkill

Had some marathon co-op sessions over the weekend, seriously highlights the lack of difficulty but great fun regardless. And I really enjoyed seeing my friends reactions to the scenes with warden Clement, especially the ending. Great entertainment. They should have done TV advertising just with a montage of people's facial expressions during those moments, would be a good idea for experience vids on Wii.com too. By the way, has anyone else unlocked the ice cream van in the extras 3D section? (you need the kill 50 mutants "gangster style" achievement) Zoom in on it and have a look around if you do, it's pretty damn funny. I agree. Was a great move by SEGA having a UK developer handle it, HotD was in desperate need of freshening up and that was the perfect way to do it I reckon. Yeah I feel that they should have made DC mode a lot more difficult, or chucked in an additional setting on top of that one. Extra Mutants doesn’t really cut it as far as increasing the difficulty is concerned.I’ve still not purchased any new weapons from the gun shop and I’ve beaten the game like 5 times already! Playing without the reticule is the way to go if you want to make the game more challenging, it works great too as long as you've got enough distance between the Wii Remote and the sensor bar. Blatantly the way Overkill is intended to be played too, pure arcade goodness. :awesome: Anyway, here's hoping Headstrong get the ok for a sequel. Would be cool if they could fix the difficultly issue, perhaps put in some better mini-games too. The one's in Overkill were all right but I'd have preferred infinite style challenges rather than time based. The survival one would have been sweet if it'd keep on going and getting harder the longer you play it, until you just get completely overwhelmed. More incentive for high scores that way too.
  2. The House of The Dead: Overkill

Got my Hand Cannon today, so it’s time for… Hand Cannon vs. Perfect Shot. First thing that you are going to notice with the HC (especially if you have used the PS or any other gun shell) is the size. It is bloody huge! Check it out, HC and PS comparison pic: I spent a good couple of minutes just laughing at it once I took it out of the box, laughed even more when I put it next to the PS. Obviously, the size carries over to the weight. Therefore, the HC is a lot heavier than the PS. I chucked them both on the kitchen scales (complete with Wii Remote) for verification, the PS weighs 244 grams and the HC comes in at a whopping 348 grams! This can be either a good or a bad thing I suppose, the pro being that you get a bit more of a workout using the HC, the con being that you will obviously tire quicker with it too. On to the grips, having now used both guns I would say that the HC wins over the PS in this department. The grip on the PS is made of the same rock hard plastic as the rest of the shell and has a square-ish shape so after a long use it will start to leave an imprint on your hand. The HC though features a nice rounded grip that is made of a softer kind of rubbery material so it is much more comfortable to hold. It would be perfect, were it not for the gap along the back of the grip that is designed for the nunchuk cable: The problem with this, is that it breaks up the soft rounded feel on the grip and means you still end up with an imprint on your hand after a while, just in a different place to when using the PS. Shame when you consider that Overkill doesn’t even require a nunchuck to play it. Plus they could have used a pass through system (like on the PS) to have the cable come out of the base of the grip, therefore removing the need for a cable groove. Next up is the triggers, in my opinion the PS wins on this one. It feels a lot more responsive and requires a bit more force to activate meaning you get much better feedback from it. The HC trigger is pretty loose in comparison and just feels a lot less robust than that of the PS, still an improvement on the Wii Zapper mind you. Overall, I would say that you can’t really go wrong with either the HC or the PS. It basically comes down to the following… If you want to look completely badass and are more interested in just having a laugh, then I would recommend the HC. It looks hilarious, works well and still makes shooters much more enjoyable to play than with the Wii Remote only. But, if you’re the type to take it a bit more seriously, going for high scores, accuracy etc. or you are just going to be playing for long periods of time, then the reduced weight and better trigger system of the PS are going to be more beneficial. Anyway, hope that helps people to decide which gun shell is right for them. Personally, I am quite happy to have one of each. I’ll use the PS as my single player gun and the HC for co-op fun / dual wielding. Hope I don’t end up with one arm bigger than the other though!
  3. Deadly Creatures - Out Now!

Mine hasn't been sent yet either, hmm... What's going on with this game then? Oh well, back to Overkill I go! :p
  4. The House of The Dead: Overkill

Oh man, this is gold! I knew I was going to love it from the trailers and making-of documentaries. But the people behind this game have done such an incredible job that I'm going to be eagerly anticipating the announcement of any future titles from them. The presentation is so damn cool. All of the style from the trailers is present and the attention to detail is just crazy... The worn celluloid effect, the movement of the camera/characters, the voice overs, the music, it all comes together perfectly to create a really great vibe. No way can I talk about Overkill and not give special mention to the soundtrack though, it is sublime! Funk is one of my favourite genres of music so I'm always really happy to hear it in games. And this is certainly right up there with de Blob and most definitely going to be joining it on my Mp3 player as soon as possible. :awesome: As for the game play, it is immensely fun and incredibly satisfying, much more so than Umbrella Chronicles put it that way. None of that frustrating pixel perfect aiming required for head shots in this game! It controls just as you'd expect it to, fast and responsive. The only potential issue being slight frame skips here and there (although minor) that can throw your aim off (as the cursor also skips). It can be annoying when it results in losing a combo chain, but bizarrely it also seems to add to the whole old school movie feel and I quickly found myself starting to accept it as another part of the visual charm. Never thought I'd ever find a frame rate glitch in a game to be a good thing, but in Overkill it kind of is. Have played through and completed the main story (the 3 hour estimation for doing so is pretty much spot-on) and the finale has to be one of, if not the most, messed up things I've ever seen in a video game...
  5. The House of The Dead: Overkill

Cheers.I've already made an OVERKILL banner for N-E, (quite a while ago actually) will be going up tomorrow! Shame I didn't have access to any of that artwork at the time though, I love that weird googly eyed zombies expression.
  6. The House of The Dead: Overkill

    Sure is. Here's my poster:
  7. Post Your Animal Crossing Pics!

Lol at the Animal Crossing wedding. That's what I thought too, but then I started not changing my shirt, (that sounds weird ) only hats. And would get a different shoe colour depending on which hat I was wearing. So it definitely does affect it.Anyway, I got my red shoes now, so I'm happy.
  8. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

I started playing this again recently to test out my new Perfect Shot. And have since discovered that despite completing the game ages ago, I never got S rank on every stage. So I'm actually getting back into it quite a bit now (in between AC sessions) to beef up my scores! I really love the extra mini-game with the super fast exploding zombies, great fun.
  9. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

That's what I was thinking too, but doesn't seem to be the case. Bummer cos' I still had stuff to sell. Hilarious! I thought Pekoe was leaving your town!? Anyway, you should buy the pipe.
  10. Post Your Animal Crossing Pics!

More pics from me too... Including the frog suit shoe shine disaster, right up to today's flea market fun!
  11. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

Yeah. And I still have the whoopie cushion chair entrance. Well not right now actually, because I completely emptied my front room yesterday in anticipation of the flea market.Good move too, seeing as I made out like a bandit this morning, selling fish and bees to my neighbours! Made over 150k in a matter of minutes. :awesome: Unfortunately though not all the animals visited my house (hoping that's just because some of them weren't awake yet) and they didn't seem to want to buy any fossils either, which is strange as I'm sure they did on the other versions. Anyway, as a result of my successful businesses during the flea market I decided to celebrate and went to town a bit with buying white turnips, got 3000! Man I hope Nook has good prices this week.
  12. De Blob

Indeed we did and indeed it was. Don't you go and make Mr.T mad now.
  13. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

You've got loads of room you nutter! You wanna see my house mate. Just ask Katie, she was the last person to see it in all of it's super packed glory. I believe her exact words were, "I can see feng shui"
  14. De Blob

Absolutely! de Blob has one of greatest soundtracks ever! They sure as hell better not mess with the formula! *has nightmare of de Blob 2 featuring heavy metal soundtrack * Nooooooooooooooo! That is a crazy good deal! Someone would have to be seriously nuts to miss out on this game for that price.
  15. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

I think I've got just over half of them now, have had a lot of duplicates too. Don't think I ever collected them all on GCN or DS, but will definitely try to on this version.
  16. The House of The Dead: Overkill

Yeah, very good. One of the best 3rd party accessories I've come across. Well built and a great design too, like how the nunchuck can be connected to the Wii remote via a port on the base of the handle. It was £11.99 from Play.com.
  17. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

Well done. It gets a lot easier the more you try. The best technique is to run upwards from the tree that the nest fell out of (until that tree is off the screen) then quickly equip the net using the D-Pad (that'll set you up facing the right direction) then just wait until the bees are about to hit you and swing the net at that moment. Once you get the timing down it's actually pretty easy to catch them, I usually get all 4 every day now. There are still occasional accidents though.
  18. The House of The Dead: Overkill

*watches new trailer and game play vids* Wow. :awesome: This is going to be the perfect game to get in to after playing Animal Crossing, will make the experience even more intense I reckon... One day, planting flowers, fishing, collecting fruit. The next, shooting the crap out of loads of Zombies! Can't wait. And I got my Perfect Shot today. Been trying it out with Umbrella Chronicles, works really well and definitely makes the game more fun to play. Must say, I'm loving the look of the Hand Cannon though, not sure if I'll be able to resist getting me one of those too. You can rock 2 guns simultaneously in the game anyway, so sounds like a plan.
  19. Wii General Discussion

*cough* unskipable cut scenes of doom. *cough*
  20. Mario Kart Wii

Yeah I saw your time at the top of the rankings list, impressive. How did you go about collecting the coins on the dirt patches? It's a shame you can't view peoples replay data for comps.
  21. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

2,500 each, so not bad. Better than the money rock anyway, well if you can nab all 4. :wink:It's much better to at least have the chance to able to catch them in my opinion. I really don't see how removing the opportunity for free bells can be considered lucky.
  22. Mario Kart Wii

How are people liking the current competition? I'm enjoying it, but finding it pretty difficult to get a decent time. It's just the way that the coins are positioned on the dirt patches, with the ones either side of the main row that makes it annoying.
  23. Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the City

One of my villagers explained lostmario's town charm to me today. Seems that catching the popeyed goldfish will make...
  24. Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics

First one was great fun, good that it might be getting a sequel. Hopefully both Balance Board and Motion+ will be used if so.
