  1. Mass Effect 3

I definitely think red is the most thematically satisfying. Something I liked about the extended cut is that it confirmed my suspicion that...
  2. Mass Effect 3

I was going to give my thoughts on the Extended Cut, but it seems redundant when you could basically read this Eurogamer article instead.
  3. PlayStation Vita Console Discussion

What part of "no excuses" weren't you clear on, Cube? Whilst it's conceivable that a person that doesn't like P3P exists, I've yet to meet one.
  4. Tomb Raider

I knew I recognised her voice from somewhere but I didn't make the connection until reading that. Seems obvious now.
  5. PlayStation Vita Console Discussion

As of tomorrow Persona 3 Portable will be £13.99 in the sale. You will buy it, no excuses!
  6. Dragon's Dogma

The impression I got was that they're much like the other job board postings, so "Find item X" or "Kill Y of Z". There's not exactly a shortage of those in the game already, so personally I'm not going to bother; I might fork out if they release a discounted bundle at a later date.
  7. Dragon's Dogma

I wouldn't mind, no, but I've only really dabbled in the PS3 version, having completed the game on 360. As such my Pawn isn't currently anything to write home about; I went with a Mage on Xbox, so going for a Ranger on PlayStation. The PS3 copy is a rental, but I might buy it for the system too so the odds of a sequel go up. As a first stab it does a lot of things right but a follow up could be an immeasurable improvement, especially on new hardware; the game can look absolutely stunning or kind of crap, depending on when you look.
  8. Dragon's Dogma

I say this completely seriously: it's one of this generation's best games. It's not perfect by a long shot, but the combat is fantastic, its new ideas interesting and it has a shadow of the Souls games' uncompromising streak that really adds to the sense of adventure; when setting out you need to consider the time of day and how you're going to get to your destination. Also, don't be fooled by the aesthetics: this is a Japanese studio making a Japanese game. This is especially true of the game's final hours, but I'll leave it at that.
  9. Xbox Live Arcade/PSN Thread

We should revert to a pun-free conversation.

Unless something's changed the minimum spend is £5.
  11. Okami HD

It's confirmed for a European release. The game's a digital title outside Japan, though. It has Move controls, a Platinum Trophy and will allegedly be full 1080p, so it already sounds more loved than RE4 HD. One similarity it does have with the latter is that it'll cost you £15.99, €19.99 or $19.99. Two questions remain: Will the PS2 version's paper filter be an option? Why isn't this a Vita game? The machine was practically made for it.
  12. PlayStation Vita Console Discussion

It's definitely coming to PS3 as one of the Xbox.com screenshots shows a Circle button. I suppose a Vita version is a question of effort; I believe the handheld release of JSR has some unique features. Going a bit off topic, but I'd love to see Skies of Arcadia: Legends albeit with the original game's audio; the GameCube version sounds wrong.
  13. Ni No Kuni on the Wii U

My understanding is that the DS game was a bit of a flop, relative to expectations; both Level-5 and Ghibli are big names in Japan. Whilst it's done good numbers — over 500,000 — in the context of the initial shipment being 600,000 copies and the price bombing as those failed to shift, it wasn't really the hit they were banking on, especially when you factor in the production expenses of the book. I seem to recall talk on the 8-4 podcast that the book and writing mechanic would be very hard to localise, not to mention expensive as you'd need production runs for various languages. As such the PS3 version is a more cost effective option, with the obvious marketing hook of amazing visuals: just seeing gets people interested, whilst the DS is now an 'old' system. As for a Wii U version, it could well happen but doesn't really make sense right now. There's over 60 million PS3s out there whilst there are zero Wii Us, and even if it has a stellar launch you're still looking at an install base of a couple of million at most. A Ni no Kuni release would better fit in later in the console's life, assuming the conversion process itself isn't horrendous; at the moment the Wii U doesn't sound like the most friendly hardware to port to, especially not if your game has been built specifically with the PS3's architecture in mind.

I suppose the rationale is that you downloaded the game and you need up-to-date firmware to access the Store in the first place. Guess they overlooked the existence of optional updates. Physical copies likely require an earlier firmware and perhaps come with an update on the cart, but as I keep my Vita updated I couldn't say for sure.

1.4GB, at least that's what my patched version weighs in at. Gravity Rush is excellent, by the way. Buckets full of charm, a lovely visual style and fantastic music wrapped around an open-world superhero game; it's like Crackdown if Nintendo made it. I was having some trouble with the camera initially but I got a feel for it after a couple of hours; it's similar to Uncharted in that I'll use the right stick for broad movements and the motion sensor to fine tune, with an occasional tap down on the d-pad to recentre if things get too skewed. As a consequence the combat started to feel a lot better and there's actually a fair amount of depth to the various attacks that the demo didn't really get across. Also, Kat needs to be in PlayStation All-Stars.
  16. Ryu ga Gotuka Studio. Whilst other Japanese studios have floundered they've been very prolific — 5 console games with a 6th on the way — and I've immensely enjoyed those that have been translated to English, most notably Binary Domain and Yakuza 4. They actually do good business in their homeland, but in the West they've a fairly niche audience; not too surprising, but disappointing. I'm crossing my fingers that Sega will be in decent enough shape to release Yakuza 5 over here, but frankly I have my doubts.
  17. Wii U available for pre-order

That price could be attainable. Usually Nintendo like to make a decent profit on their hardware, but I could see them settling for breaking even in the short term if it meant avoiding another 3DS fiasco. Amazon's price promise means nothing if they chalk it up to a pricing error, but it's not like you have anything to lose.
  18. Assassin's Creed III

It's the PS3 version. Here's for those that don't get along with GT's player.
  19. Mass Effect 3

I'm sure if the Cube-Europe boards still existed we could find some moaning. Exclusive content doesn't make much sense in this world of DLC. Unlike the GameCube era we have systems in place to distribute such additions, so there's little excuse or reason to limit fresh content to a specific platform. That said, obviously I don't have a problem with EA releasing a good port. Making use of the GamePad's screen is simply playing to the strengths of the platform, but including story content that would be just as viable for previously released versions is rather more cynical.
  20. Mass Effect 3

Multiplayer. The creation of the Extended Cut has at the very least delayed any other story DLC.
  21. Mass Effect 3

In return for what? Not buying BioWare's games previously? No one's entitled to special treatment because of the hardware they own.

I'm pretty sure you lose access to a fair few abilities — thanks to a story conceit — but the important thing is that you retain your grind and hover moves so it doesn't feel like you've been wing-clipped. Once you're done with both inFamous games I'd very much recommend the standalone Festival of Blood. Naturally you might want a bit of a break from the series beforehand, but it's a cool spin-off and well worth the asking price.
  23. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

As a bit of a heads up for those going for the 4200 points offer, don't be surprised if they take a week or so to arrive. The Microsoft Store was very tardy last time there was a similar deal, although obviously it's still worth it if you aren't in a rush. I really need to go hands on with one of those new controllers, see if they suffer from the same design flaw as older models. It's not an issue for every game but I've had about eight 360 controllers over the years and they all developed the same annoyance, a looseness to the analogue sticks that meant they didn't recentre properly; I call it a design flaw as each one first developed such behaviour on the left stick, with a lilt to the left. I've bought a Razer Onza which does sidestep the issue, but it isn't as good an all-purpose controller as the standard model as it's really designed for shooters.

I guess 17 minutes for Wonderbook wouldn't have been enough.

That ostensibly contradicts IGN's article on PSOne support. Why would they roll games out gradually if support is blanket? Anyway, here's the Vita montage Sony apparently forgot to show during their conference:
