  1. But isnt the whole point that the console (no, I can't bear to name it) should reach out to new potential gamers? These people won't have heard of it before, and their first reaction will be the same as the first reaction everywhere: 1. Wii? What the hell is that? 2. Oh, it's pronounced Wee. Haha, wee! 3. I'm not going into a shop and saying that I want a wee. And the key thing is that people will have this reaction when they might consider whether or not to buy it. Nintendo needn't care what we think- we're all gamers and fans so we'll buy it anyway. But they are risking putting off any potential buyers who speak english. And it's not fair to say that people are just being immature. If your marketing relies on customers being perfectly mature, you have overlooked a massive chunk of the population. Justifying it with philosophical bulls*** is pretty weak too. You shouldn't have to explain your name. Call it the Nintendo Together or Nintendo All if you want, at least everyone will get that first time. Plus of course, this is nothing like Amazon, iPod, Virgin etc. Amazon is just a name, it's not like rainforests are illegal or anything. iPod is a gadget, and they can get away with names like AW-1000, and apple use iMac iBook etc. Again it doesn't sound stupid. Virgin is the only slightly dodgy one, but since we were introduced to it through a radio station (where you can say whatever you want in a cool way, inbetween the ad breaks) nobody cared when they saw a virgin train. Personally it makes no difference- I'll buy a revolution anyway. But if nintendo ruins it's marketing, sales drop, third party support drops, and I won't be able to play Red Steel 2. And that makes me mad. /rant
  2. I was reading an article the other day (in new scientist) about how gaming could be redefined by the future consoles. They mentioned the rev, but they held out a lot of interest in a highly advanced eyetoy. In theory, a good enough camera could manage depth perception and distinguish between the moving person and a static surrounding. They had an example of using a PSP camera that could superimpose game characters on the street you were walking down in real life, and display it interactively on the screen. Rest easy though- there's no way the PS3 could handle it, let alone the PSP. PS: Given that the fourth dimension is time, everything is 4D. You are all timetravellers, going in one direction at 60 seconds per minute. PPS. pwned
  3. Marth or Falco are both great cos I can really get a flow going- it looks so much less like a game and more natural when everything is smooth. Link is cool, but not as powerful as the others. Jigglypuff rocks. Rest and rollout are the two coolest moves in the game.
  4. See, this is why I don't think we need a shell. Using the nunchuk, we've got 4 buttons, d pad, analogue stick and movement sensing. SSB on cube only needed analogue stick, A,B,X and either L or R. Some might not even use X. It's well within the rev's capabilities. Motion sensing could cover all the hardcore stuff like wavedashing, directional influence, CCing, Doughnuts and yes I made that last one up.
  5. I agree with you on everything apart from the controls. And yet, I love MP. It's deep, varied and looks amazing (seeing the snowfall for the first time was an experience) @thefish- Right on, brother. I thought eternal darkness was overrated too. It had an involved story, solid graphics and controls, insanity system was awesome. But you spend 90% of your time blundering about looking for an arbitrary item so you can advance, looking for an arbitrary object to press B in front of, or hacking through YET MORE OF THE SAME ENEMIES. *sighs*
  6. Which bases?
  7. Which games do you think have been brutally underrated or stupidly overrated this gen? Everyone always goes on about SMS for example, seems to be a love/hate thing... I have reckon the most underrated game was Rally Championship. It got mocked by reviewers reviewers everywhere, yet it's by far the best multiplayer game I have, and is pretty solid single player too. Hopefully someone else will have played it too. Thoughts?
  8. Now I know lots of you seem to be pretty keen on the idea of a controller 'shell'. It makes ports easier, so the system gets more games, so revolution owners are better off. But I for one would be really annoyed if I had to get a shell. To me it seems like nintendo is admitting defeat. Plus, it's another peripheral to mess around with, could make for a heavier and possibly unbalanced controller and it would cost money. You've got the nunchuk- that gives you all the buttons you need, even if the FHC is relegated to camera control or something. Who's with me?
