Ollie Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 ...problem is, I don't know an awful lot about Raids. I know different set ups do things in dfferent ways but thats all. If I say what I want, maybe you could recommend a way of doing it? I need good data integrity. Therefore if a disk goes down I don't want to loose any data. (therefore I think im correct in thinking it needs to be RAID 5?) It needs to be fast, ideally I want to use it for data storage when editing videos and backing up my dvd's, but I'm going to want to stream it across a network. That's about all, unless anyone thinks I have missed something?
=NukeBlaze= Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I'd reccomend making sure you had ethernet line rated for gigabit speeds then (cat6), as well as equpitment. It will not matter if you want to stream data across ultra fast and are running only 10/100 network. A single harddisk can generate between 30-52 or so MB/s, looking at theoretical cable bandwith::: 10 Mbit : 1.25 MB/s 100Mbit : 12.5 MB/s 1000Mbit : 125 MB/s 10/100 is still "fast", but if you want to be quite fast, I reccomend a gigabit network.
