HELP!! PC crashes

That Guy

Recommended Posts

My PC is constantly crashing, like more than twice daily, and the windows error reporting says that it's to do with hardware. Trouble is I can't figure out what the problem is.

I've run the Microsoft program that checks the RAM (256mb) and it says that there is no problem with it. Could it be I don't have enough RAM? I wouldn't have thought it was that since my PC sometimes just restarts itself, and it comes up serious error afterwards.

My fan is working properly but do you think that my computer could be overheating? How can I check it?

The last thing I can think of is it being the hard drive, but I'm not sure how it could be that. I've formatted (only quick format) before and still the same problem. It probably crashes the most when I'm using Internet Explorer but it's not always that.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking of buying more RAM but not if I'm gonna have to buy a new computer. :hmm:

Yes you do need more ram, XP eats up 256 very quickly. Also make sure that every device driver is up to date. As I have had similar problems with certain versions of ATI catalyst drivers. To check the temperatures of your PC you should read the motherboard's manua on how to do this.

Probably the easiest way of finding out is using a program like motherboard monitor. But that doesn't always work without tweaking.
