Julius Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Quote Ubisoft has greenlit the development of a Splinter Cell remake that will draw from the rich canvas of the brand. Led by Ubisoft Toronto, the game will be rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine – the same engine being used to develop Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game – to deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for. There's an interview up on the official Ubisoft site from three developers on the project, here. What an underwhelming way to announce this remake: "there you go, it's happening, please be excited."
Julius Posted October 10 Author Posted October 10 (edited) Well, not quite the update I was expecting we'd get next on this, but Insider Gaming are reporting that the game is still in development amongst recent fears that it had been cancelled. Quote The Splinter Cell Remake is making progress at Ubisoft despite rumors that the game has been quietly canceled. Insider Gaming has learned that the game is being developed under the codename North. In addition to the codename, sources have confirmed that the game is being built in the Snowdrop Engine. Previous Splinter Cell games used Unreal Engine 2 and 2.5. Snowdrop has been used to develop games like Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws. Ah yes, Snowdrop, that notoriously robust and bug-free engine of Ubisoft's I'm thinking we potentially get an update on this next summer ahead of release in 2026 or 2027? Would be very interesting if Ubisoft could have something of a return to form to cap off the generation between this remake and the Sands of Time remake. Kind of mental, come to think of it, that we're quickly coming up to the third and final act of a typical 7-year generation... Edited October 10 by Julius
