f00had Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 It also seems strange that they couldn't get the Wii Mode to detect it as a GameCube controller, considering the OS has native support for the controller. The Wii mode can't even detect anything connected to the front USB ports, bloody useless
Rummy Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I hope the adaptor doesn't eat up too much of the CPU, y'know, so there's at least some hope of future support even once the Wii Don't Know What The Fuck Wii're Doing Any More is released with more graphics and stuff. I know someone'll come along to clarify it, but I honestly can't imagine it using up too much to do what it does; especially if they've been designed alongside each other. True, it's good that they've allowed GC support for the legacy side of it. But, where's the evolution? Surely you'd think that the Pro Controller would be the natural step up for many gamers who used the GC controller in the past. To me, it almost sends out the wrong message because they're (in a way) saying that they have made the Wiimote, nunchuk, classic controller, classic controller pro, pro controller, GamePad, balance board and yet...they kinda had it right all those years ago with the GC controller. Just seems a bit strange to me to go backwards and use a controller from two generations ago when there is already a decent controller there with the Pro Controller. But yeah, I can also see why many who had Melee would want to use the GC controller...especially after some probably skipped the Wiimote and Nunchuk combo on Brawl. I have to admit, I found that game pretty cumbersome to enjoy using that set up. Tbh I never though I'd find myself bringing up and making the point - but what Melee evolved into competetively wise is heavily tied into the GC controller in some senses - I imagine the top folks have developed a muscle memory for some of the stuff they pull of, and with a different control scheme that is going to be radically changed. For me, despite the option, I started off playing Brawl mixing it up between wiimote+nunchuk and gc pad(marcamillian plays wiimote only) and I continued for a while before eventually going back to the GC pad pretty much exclusively. I was playing on Saturday wiimote+nunchuk with a guy I don't play with normally and a guy who hasn't really played before - I wasn't trying super hard because I didn't want to kick their arses too thoroughly but I did feel like I was at a lesser potential with the wiimote+chuk compared to my GC usual. I can totally see where you're coming from though still - and in some ways I'd welcome the evolution to the pro pad or so - I would enjoy a mixup to some of the competetive players(is it themselves or just things they've learnt?) - however as I mentioned I think with WiiU and the situation it's in it just isn't worth that risk this time.
