Strider Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I recently upgraded my PS3 hard drive, so i took the old one out and put it a caddy to use as an external. Now when i plug it in the USB slot the light comes on, i can hear and feel it spinning, and windows makes that noise when you plug a USB device in. The first time i plugged it in, it even recognised it as 'Mass storage device'. The problem is, i can't see it in My Computer so i can't open it. I tried it on my bros PC and it did the same. Any Help?
Wesley Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Go into Computer Management (either in the Admin folder or the System Tools folder on the Start Menu). Once there go to the Disk Management. You should see your HDD and can right click, "Change Dirve Letter/Path" (or something like that) where you can assign a path to it. Once this is done you should be able to view it on My Comp. This is obviously me just assuming that this is what the problem is. But it quite often is with new HDD, etc. Also if it is fresh out your PS3 then a format might be needed? I don't know how PS3s deal with their HDD.
Strider Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Thanks Wesley, i can now see another drive and it's in the process of formatting. I hope i'm doing it right, i have 3 hard drives which are all 40gb and i hope i've picked the right one. Thanks again.
Wesley Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 No problem. Also, Windows won't let you format a HDD that is in use. So anything you've got on the same HDD as your OS is will be safe.
