Tellyn Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Metroid would do a lot better commercially if Nintendo were more competent with advertising games other than Touch Generations.
Hellfire Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Metroid would do a lot better commercially if Nintendo were more competent with advertising games other than Touch Generations. I don't think so, that advertising works because it's a product that appeals to a new unexplored market, Metroid not so much. There were shitloads of ads for the GBA Metroids and they didn't sell 10s of millions. They do well enough do, asides from MP2 which sold very poorly (if I remember correctly it was launched at the worst possible time)
DazzeL Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I think it's difficult to deny that Metroid would, at least, do a little better with increased marketing. Part of advertising is drawing people in with only superficial, but attractive, glimpses of your product. I agree Metroid is fairly niche but in terms of TV advertising it would appear to be another FPS. From this point of view I don't see why people couldn't have been drawn in, whether or not they would enjoy the game after buying is another matter.
darksnowman Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 They tried advertising Prime 3 with a girl and it didn't sell through the roof either... people just know to steer clear of Metroid games.
