Setting up a raid without formatting hard drives?

Ok so my setup right now is basically influenced from the fact that I didn't know how to set up a raid when I built my pc. I've got two identicle sata drives of 250 GB, one has a windows partition and program files/work partition, the other has games and anime.....

 

Would I be forced to format atleast one of the drives in order to create a raid?

I´m pretty sure you would need to format both drives. What do you need raid for anyway? And what raid setup are you going to use? (raid0,raid1 etc.)
