Ant-Shimmin Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Planning on getting a Set Top Box in my room... I could get Virgin Media's Equivalent of Sky Plus but I was wondering if I could get my Windows Media Centre to record the TV for me. Is this possible?
Guest Jordan Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 There is an ethernet on the back of most of them, if it can be networked. But if Windows will know what to do with it? Who knows, i never tried it.
Ant-Shimmin Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I'll Give it A Go, My PC and Set Top box will go through the same TV if thats anything...
McPhee Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Buy an analogue TV card for you're computer (or a graphics card with video capture) and plug the box in to it. If you want to schedule video then you need a USB IR Blaster. This will allow the computer to change the channels. The only problem with these is sometimes the computer can get confused and set the wrong channel (like if you changed the channel on the box at some point and didn't tell the computer). Only other way is by using a DVB-C card. Theres currently no legal way to decode the signal so i won't go into the hows

Who knows, i never tried it. I thought the ethernet port on the back doubled as a modem for their broadband, I'm sure I heard that somewhere. I hope so anyway, the missus is getting a laptop next week and it'll save getting a wireless router if she can just plug it in to the set top box in the bedroom.
