Rummy Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 First things first, no, it doesn't have S-Video out, I imagine if it did things'd be so much easier, but they're not. Second, ATI/AMD appear to fucking suck major ass, the useless bastards seem to have the shittiest support ever. I can only find myself going, quite literally, in circles on their site, trying to find out whether or not my ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 actually does support TV out or not, but as I said, the site is a load of shit and I'm just circling between 3 pages that all seem to link to each other. Now, if anybody out there knows anything about this, please help me. Basically, as I said, I have an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 in my laptop, and it has VGA out, I currently have some cheap VGA to S-Video/Composite(it has both an svideo and RCA plug on it). I am trying to connect it up to my TV at the moment, currently through the S-Video in, but my TV is just black, flickering on occasion. After some reading around, I find stuff about find out if my card supports TV out, which I'm struggling to do as there seems to be nowhere I can find out about it! I am seriously at a loss, and it's pissing me off! Can anyone who knows, tell me what I should be doing, even if it's not specific to my graphics chip?
Guest Stefkov Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Have you tried a cable with VGAs on either end? If your tv supports. What make of laptop is it? Maybe they have an online manual for this? You making sure the TV is on the right input?
McPhee Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 You can't output VGA to S-Video without a signal converter, thats why you're having trouble. VGA is an RGB signal, S-Video is, well, an S-Video signal. The 2 aren't immediately compatable. VGA and RGB Scart are though and there are instructions on the net about how to make you're own VGA-RGB Scart cable. For some reason no shops sell them so you'll have to wire one up yourself
Rummy Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 I tried it off the yellow rca one too, but no luck there either . I can't find much in the way of user guide for the graphics chip/card, and it's not mentioned in my laptop's manual either. I'll have a look around the internet for the thing you mentioned. My main issue was trying to find out if my card/chip directly supports TV out(which the cable did say it needs to support to work) but as I said, it's a proper mission and a half to find any useful information about the Xpress 1100.

Until recently nobody really bothered hooking computers up to TVs so there are very few graphics cards that can do it to anything other than a HDTV. Hope you are lucky though
