  1. The Specs

I think what we have to remember is that: A) The Wii is a games console, not a PC. This is important as PC games would have higher requirements as they run on top of all sorts of other apps (Windows probably being the biggest resource hog :p ) whereas games on the Wii only have to be run ontop of a firmware which has been designed especially for gaming on. B) The GPU doesn't need as much power as the PS3/360's as it's not required to power an HD display. C) The PowerPC architecture cannot be directly compared to Intel's but it is generally accepted that it is more efficient, so a 700mhz PPC is capable of more than a 700mhz P3, so yes the Wii's CPU is better than the Xbox's (if these specs are to be believed). D) The developers are capable of developing games on a console which are much more optimised than they can on a PC as every Wii has identical hardware, so if an optimisation works on one Wii it should work on every Wii. This can't happen on PCs because what happens on say a Pentium 4 with Intel Integrated Graphics could be completely different to what happens on an AMD Athlon64 with an ATI x1800 (I'm not saying that P4s and Athlons are incompatible, I;m just saying that certain optmiisations could give different results depending on the CPU). This is just my opinion on why the Wii's specs can't be directly compared to the PS3's, Xbox 360's or a PC's specs.
  2. Playing Cube Titles with Classic Controller?

That's a point, the Gamecube is the only Nintendo console so far to have two analogue sticks on the controller, and the Classic Controller has two analogue sticks.
  3. GAME TESTERS ACCESS WII DATA SHEET

If this is true, then I expected the specs to be around about that, except wow that's a lot more cache than the Gamecube has! That should hopefully make a big difference.
  4. What are you doing to waste your time till Wii?

I'll be going to school during the day Monday to friday, working on Saturdays and playing Metroid Prime 2, Geist, Pheonix Wright, Tetris DS and Mario and Luigi Partners In Time. In between all that I'll be reading Douglas Coupland's Microserfs and JPod, The Woz's iWoz and O'Reilly's Head First Java.
  5. what ethernet sort are you going with?

Wifi, The only thing between my Wii and the Wireless Router will be my iMac so I doubt I'll see much difference than if I were to use a cable, and if I did I could easily move the router to te other side of my iMac, giving the router and Wii a completely 100% clear transmission path. I don't think we'll see WPA support, I'm guessing Nintendo would probably implement an almost exact replica of the DS's wireless setup, otherwise they would need to order different chipsets etc. This of it like how they used the same d-pad in the GBA and GC, saves money because they're the same part. Unless has it been confirmed that they're using 802.11g? If so then just chuck that entire paragraph in the bin!!
  6. Oldboy - Friday 11.05pm, Film 4

Hey I saw that movie a while ago. I sorta thought that the ending about the woman would happen but the bit where he does the thing to his... eating apparatus, was totally unexpected :awesome:
  7. What was you first EVER game?

I can't remember the name of it, but it was on Mega Drive and it involved you going a monkey and having to spit little pellets at the bad guys to get to the end of the levels. Odd. EDIT: Actually, it might have been Lemmings for DOS.
  8. PC Suggestions

Well, Im not sure about the Creative Vision, but I'm almosst 100% AOL will work on a Mac, and you iChat for AIM. I'm sure with a bt of Googleywoogleying you'll be able to find some way to use your Vision on a Mac, too.
  9. Wii Hardware Discussion

    No that's for SD Cards
  10. Super Mario Bros Deluxe

Ahhhh the good ol' days. I don't think I ever completed it either, I could never finish the second last level on the Lost Levels. I remember thinking that a lot of work obviously had been put into that game, definately more than any of the Super Mario Advance games. *Goes and plays Mario Bros DX*
  11. Gamecube's last stand

I think the last game that I'll ever buy for my Gamecube will be Chibi-Robo It feels sad to be talking about the end of the Cube's life, and with the Wii's backwards compatibility I think that a lot of Cubes will never even be turned on again
  12. Windows on a Mac, totally legal now!

Totally legal now? Was it illegal before?
  13. Mac users- Skip 10.4.6 for now.

It should automatically download the correct version. Even if he had an Intel and downloaded the PPC one (or vice versa), it wouldn't have run.
  14. Whats the best Antivirus program

Dude, Norton sucks. As does McAfee. Get AVG Free, it works great. One time it picked up a load of viruses which Norton couldn't find on my comp. I'm guessing because more people sue Norton than AVG the virus programmer tried to get his virus to disable Norton but not AVG?
  15. Graphics Card Temp.

My first guess would be to update drivers and patch Half Life 2, but i guess you might have already done that You can never go wrong with an extra case fan, just to make sure everything's nice and cool, they can be had for about £12 in PCWorld (even though PCWorld is EVIL)
  16. Wireless Access Point for laptop

What OS are you using? Windows XP SP2 has a much better wireless network detection program than previous version (IMO) Also, make sure it isn't Window's problem, try using NetStumbler to see if it can find your network http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ (note: It's Netstumbler you want, MiniStumbler is for PDAs) But before all that, make sure wireless is on, you have no idea how long it took me to figure THAT one out for my comp
  17. Whats Your System Made out of ?

PC: Some ASUS Motherboard Intel Celeron D 2.66ghz nVidia GeForce FX 5900 (with Ultra BIOS) 512mb DDR RAM 80gb Hard Drive Mac: 400mhz Power PC G3 576mb RAM 16mb (i think) Radeon graphics card And a 512kbps connection shared between the PC, iMac and DS
  18. Questions on Macs

    1) Well, depends on which mac your going for. The mac mini is absolutely awesome, and it's pretty cheap too. 2)Yes, you can. But everyone will tell you that the version of MSN Microsoft makes for mac is rubbish, use AdiumX instead, its really good (adium will also let you talk to people using windows) 3)Mac's are a hell of a lot more stablen no Blue screens of death Mac's are beautiful OS X is really awesome OS X Tiger's Dashboard thing is really cool (note: someone should write a widget which tells you the status on Nintendo WiFi!) All new macs come with Apple's iLife suite, which let's you edit movies and make music and all kindsa stuff! Hope this helped!
