  1. Doctor Who

i thought it was a great episode despite a few niggling things. It would of been great to have seen a full blown war between the darleks and cybermen, but the show is under time limits so it was bound to use some quick fix tactics. I agree the ending was kinda spoiled by Tate's appearance, but i think that was done to lighten the mood of losing Rose (which would upset younger audiences. The couple of moments i wasnt keen on....cyberyvonne, her turning against the cybermen was out of place for the cybermen plot. I also felt the bit between Rose's mum and dad was given too much time, they never were main actors.
  2. I'm leaving..

sorry to hear that, you'll probably have a great summer doing other stuff.
  3. Doctor Who

Tonights episode was quite good, but felt too much like a precurse to next week's episode, rather than a two part story. I especially liked the Eastenders joke.
  4. Chavs = scum [a sad tale of last night]

sorry to hear what happened, i hope it wont knock your confidence much. Luckily i've never been in a situation like that, but its rare i'm out alone late at night and now i can drive i'm never having to walk through these chav-popular areas. I hope you've got it reported now, although i'm skeptical about the police, your report will help build up a profile. Chavs often stay around the same area, becoming well known to the people there - so when reports build up it will encourage the police to take it more seriously. Although no one should live in fear or have to change their behaviour to suit others, if you know you're going to go through an iffy area try to get a lift or not be alone. i've also sent you i PM.

  6. Words you love the sound of

i've come out of hiding from my exam torture. Anyway, add a couple more words.... onomatopoeia paraplue (dutch for umbrella)
  7. Advice needed

Your GCSE results are quite good, an office job certainly isnt out of your reach. Unfortunetly jobs can be very difficult to get. I'd recommend you keep being persistent, tell the agencies what you want it sounds like they are thinking you want production work which really doesnt seem to suit you. Try do college part time building up computer qualifications to prove what you are capable of, some courses you can do from home. I believe RSA clait is one you can do through home. Unfortunetly it probably will take some time to get a job you like, competition for all jobs is steep, but you're young, you have plenty of time to find what's right for you.
  8. Wii Price: Whose side is Matt on anyway?

First i'll just say that is your version of "old". To me the wii-mote seems a real innovation and logical step that make ps3 and xbox360 seem old. Anyway, i think the whole rant is stupid. It is a rant based on assumptions of the price, when is actualy has no idea what the final price will be. I agree with him that amoung many things the price needs to be low to attract non-gamers. I think a few things to bare in mind are that non-gamers, even most gamers (me included) are not that knowledgable about the technology inside the consoles, they just know if something looks good and red steel and mario galaxy look fantastic. Finally, i'd like to point out that for people in the know about the technology inside xbox360 and ps3, they will seem like value for money because microsoft and sony typically sell their consoles at a loss (made back through games). Nintendo seems to be the only games company that cares about making some profit on the sale of the system. Actually to defend this guy, i can kinda see where he is coming from. I have often showed my DS to people, they've been a bit interested and asked me the price. When i've said i've paid £100, they look a bit shocked. Obviously £50 is an unrealistic price, so its also about shaping attitudes nongamers have toward gaming.
  9. Link voted "Hottest" by gay/lesbian magazine

Chill out! It's obviously based on the adult incarnations and is hardly serious - are you expecting gay people to do? to jump into a game and rape him?? Also, in reagrd to the "and gay" bit, there's nothing wrong with being homosexual. Grow up.
  10. I'm more worried than most, probably because i know most gamers dont know much about games/gamesystems until they see them in the shops. So they wont know or care Sony ripped off Nintendo this e3. Also with Sony's deluded marketing like saying in the conference that the PSP is unrivaled, calling nintendo a gimmick at the start of the conference then going on to show the psp as a wing mirror in F1 game and stealing nintendo's idea. Also, Playstation have that stupid "It's cool to own a playstation" image, particularly in England. Unfortunately you need to be quite informed to see how the PS3 tilt sensors are far inferior and would never work in a FPS title. Luckily, their ridiculous price will put off most people for some time. Anyway, here's to Nintendo's conference tonight. Certainly won't get so dull they have to ask people to clap.
  11. Playstation Discussion Archive

god, i am bored. I am hoping they excite me a bit, show some true ingame ps3 footage and give a price.
  12. Perrin Kaplan Comments on Nintendo Wii

I was speaking to a dutch friend, who was telling me in Holland that wee means the same thing. However, he pointed out that Holland have a clothes company called "We" and the population have become accepting of the name, not associating it with urine. Still out of the millions of names Nintendo could choose, it is the most risky and will alienate members of the public, losing sales for a silly, avoidable reason.
  13. 3rd Year Uni work placement?

I've now done two work placements for my university, both were around 9 weeks. It seems a long way off that you will be starting your placement. I would assume your uni will have some office to help arrange placement. At my uni it's the E.P.O (Employer Partnership Office). You can see what your uni has to offer, try get some advise from them. If that's no use you're probably lucking at personal contacts or luck.
  14. Damn cars

well this is messed up.... I was was buying my insurance online, he computer crashed the second i clicked "Confirm payment", so i wasnt sure if it was done, i havent recieved a confirmation email and my bank isnt showing money being taken out. I rang up the call center, they dont seem 100% sure, but said things should be okay and i should be insured to drive.
  15. Damn cars

Cars are incredibly expensive. I am 22 looking for one of the cheapest cars to insure (a Corsa) and the cheapest i can get is about £600. I also looked up 18 year olds in the same situation and their quotes tended to be around £1,200 with a corsa. On top of that ridiculous insurance cost you have tax, repairs, MOT and petrol. It's a hella alot of money, how many teenagers are high paying jobs to pay for all that? I'm thankful my insurance is a bit cheaper at 22, but i wouldnt bother if i didnt feel i had to. I travel to university and it takes me 4 hours a day on public transport, in a car it would take me about 30 or 40 minutes each way (the trains kinda go very far out to turn back in on a different line). So for me it really is to try and get a life back. I also feel for anyone taking lessons, it is a constant drain also and after so many lessons you dont feel like you're learning much. The worst bit is paying for tests, it cost about £85 a test, alot to pay if you fail
  16. Thing is, people may seem apatheic about it now, but before going into war many millions protested and it was known that most of the public were against the idea of going to war. The public made it clear how they felt, the problem wasn't an apathetic public. The problem was a leader who does whatever the hell he wants even when it goes against the public, the UN and many MPs in his own party (based on some bullshit reasons).
  17. through anticipation i didnt click the link. I get distressed pretty easy. I think this topic should be locked, it's unneeded, we can imagine the horrors of war and people may underestimate how graphic the pictures will be before clicking.
  18. GCSE's

i would say dont let the school hype of GCSE's mess you up, i remember when i was at school they potrayed it as the be all and end all of your life, the thing that would determine the rest of your life. They are important, but that's utter crap. Back when i did my GCSE's i did crap on most of them, but my dad had died around that time so everything was upside down. Getting my results i thought i had messed up my life and careers advisors said the same, however a few years later i did an adult access course (A levels in one year), now i am at university getting good grades on my essays. So try not let it overly stress you out, it is important but not the only chance in life.
  19. Celebrity Big Brother 4 Official Thread

i thought last year with Jackie Stallone was funny, not that she intended it that way.

  21. New Year's Resolutions

Okay, i dont really believe in new years resolutions, but i really wanted to join in.... 1) Get car insurance so i can put my license to some use. 2) Get back to exercising more and get back in shape (horrible public travel times to uni really messed things up) 3) Get a part-time job 4) Try and get my finances in a bit more order 5) Make more friends. 6) Try to feel okay with my love life even if that means being okay. 7) Read more, study more So many.... All are important to me in a way, but i need to be more determined about number 2,4 and 7. Most others cant be forced.
  22. Your 5 personal highlights of 2005

    1) Working in a Special School 2) Going to my first concert 3) Passing my driving test 4) Getting Animal Crossing 5) Passing my first year of uni.
  23. One night stands

If it is safe sex and both people are aware that it will go no further than sex, then i dont see a problem with it. Some people may be too busy for a serious relationship, may not want the complex issues that can come with relationships or may enjoy a life of being single. A good relationship can be much more fulfilling, however i dont see why the people in situations listed above should be denied the pleasure of sex, hopefully should be mature enough to be careful of the risks. One of the problems many people have said in this thread is that many times in a one night stand, one of the persons has 'fallen in love' and wants more, ending up being heart broken. As for me...well i'm in a relationship so it's not an option, should i become single i dont know, part of it appeals, cos the messiness of relationships really put me off, but i do want more, like affection and such. Time will telll which way my love life goes.
  24. Where to go to

i have a dutch friend who's ex-geography teacher of years ago is the only person in the world to have visited every country. It took him something like 30 years and alot of the countries were said to be difficult to get into, like North Korea. Myself, i'd love to go to many places, Paris (very possible), Italy, Egypt, America, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, see the Safri in Kenya. Alot really, i couldnt imagine spending every holiday in spain just sunbathing like many people i know do.
  25. adam & steve

perhaps i worded it wrong, i didnt mean no unity, but a lesser amount of unity, given that many gay people can choose to remain in the closet and some go as far as marrying women to try and lead a normal life.
